Just curious: Why exactly does GvG need to be a WvW thing?

that wasnt the foundation for anything. My question wasnt of disrespect. I was clear that I dont GvG so I have no knowledge of why GvGers would associate with WvW over SPvP. Somebody explained why in a respectful reply above.

The structure can't handle it and the maps are not really fit for it. If there were good 10v10 maps and systems we might actually see more of it.

The same goes for other people's comments about physics and mode: GvG guilds have always crossed the modes for their content, back in vanilla quite alot of guilds did in-house stuff on private sPvP maps and still to this day do that in GH Arenas.

The scene heavily used the GH Arenas, despite all the bugs with getting people on map, until the skill splits and meta shift before PoF in 2017 (the broken condi stuff was even more broken in PvE physics and it was more that driving the scene into EotM than all the map bugs, even if the map bugs didn't help). That the scene has survived as well as it has with the downgrade to EotM is actually quite impressive. People like Roy and Domi have done alot to preserve what can be preserved.

Then again, most people who complain about "GvG" or guilds doing it tend to complain about spontanous skirmishes rather than actual matches and even if there was a place in sPvP to go have GvG's in, it's unlikely that skirmishes that appear out of guilds raiding the maps would disappear.

Most people who complain about "them GvG guilds" also tend to be pretty clueless about that the public tags they follow either are GvG players or learnt how to command as GvG players. So someone who wants the GvG guilds to go play elsewhere are also biting themselves in the behind without understanding it. Naturally, anonymous players in pickup groups tend to be pretty clueless about the player behind the tags they follow, in general.

it doesn't have to be. it only word used for 2 guilds to fight. it could be any mode. but gvg here is 15 v 15 atleast with 15 and up you can make up setups that can beat each other and any less does not allow you to or is to easy to figure. but it can be in pvp or any form if it catches on.

Something something .... make guild hall arena with WvW conditions instead of PvE ..... sssomething...-> EotM(-Arena) was introduced 1 years ago

Anet: _"We have a couple things in progress. First, is a new section of EOTM that is just an open arena that’s suitable for large fights if people choose. I’ve been working on it this week and it’s pretty far along.

Second, we have a custom arena map in progress. The map is being setup for larger deathmatches. However, it uses the sPvP stat and armor system, which many GvGers also won’t be interested in. Custom arenas also have a limitation of 10v10 currently.

We still have no current plans to ever have GvG be a fully supported game mode, but we did want to do a few things for the fervent GvGers out there!"_

if someone out there made 10v10 a thing, i bet it would work. you have all stats, no food. would be more balanced.

@Lord of the Fire.6870 said:I don't want to spoil that but how would people react if Arena.NET would take away this by giving wvw more rewards and structures and open in spvp a dedicated match system for guilds ?

It would be like showing up to a party 4 hours after it ended with a case of beer and 5 pizzas. The 3 people cleaning up might appreciate it but everyone else already went home.

The "NEED" part is a good question... As opposed to saying something along the lines of "want". The "want", at least, largely has to do with the Framework of GvG's and how they appeal to certain WvW players. As opposed to strictly sPvP style players. I'm gonna try to simplify this without trying to get too in depth...

  • Basically, what you can learn from doing GvG's can be better brought into a WvW environment vs an sPvP environment. Like what methods of fighting you may find more effective than others while GvGing. The point of GvG's isn't "to be the best"... Not entirely anyways. The point is to learn to be better or "why" you are one of the best (assuming you are). Aside from the just pure "fun" aspect. Then hopefully bring that learned experience into WvW as 1 team among many.

Another (perhaps better) question to ask is... "Could/Would GvG's still exist without there ever being a "WvW"?

I think GvG actually "Could" exist without WvW. I mean for example... You don't need to take/control a tower or whatever just to win a GvG. GvG is after all pretty much purely fight based. And ultimately GvG in the context of GW2... Is player created. I don't view it's creation much different then saying: "Hey guys, let's play hide and go seek". The sad part, IMO... Is that GvG's, while fun, don't sit firmly as apart of GW2 itself. Not being an inherently supported feature of the game.

Therefore, the game doesn't in turn show the same level of acceptance/respect for GvG's. Like the player base that creates the GvG's does. Which, is just sad and disrespectful IMO... Because GvG's should be viewed as more than just a random game of "Hide and go seek". As previously demonstrated earlier on. Now, "Would" they exists still?... It's extremely likely I think.

In conclusion. While I don't believe GvG's "need to be a WvW thing". I do however, see them as appealing to the WvW player style of fighting (Players that like to fight). While also more beneficial to the WvW environment (not sPvP environment) given what teams can learn from them. To then carry on over into their WvW environment... As opposed to an sPvP environment. Thus, WvW currently fits as a better home than sPvP does IMO ??‍♂️
