Whathappened to EOTM?

EOTM is an overflow map, it was designed to be a map for people to do something while waiting for queues on the main WvW maps. As such, every instance of EOTM is an overflow. EOTM is also not full, it's totally empty, so no, you did not get moved to a fresh empty overflow map, that is the main one, just no one plays on it anymore.

When EOTM came out it had rewards like WvW should have had from the start, so it attracted lots of PvE players. Those PvE players yelled and cried about WvW players or guilds going to the map and "picking on players", aka killing them. They swore up and down EOTM is not just a ktrain for them....Then anet nerfed the rewards back down to WvW levels and within a week it was a ghost town and has been since.

Probably the best summary I have seen.

When Anet launched the Legendary WvW armors and the Legendary Backpiece, many players in Edge of the Mist emptied out back into the Eternal Battlegrounds and the Borderlands. We literally grinded until we either got the armor and or backpiece. By the time we went back into Edge of the Mist the damage had been done. Lot of times we did Edge of the Mist, because there were ques on the main WvW battle maps. So we'd enter EotM and wait for our ques to pop. Although as time progressed we just sort of stayed in Edge of the Mist because it was fun. Reset was every 2 hours. Whatever we did, win or lose seriously did not matter. After 2 hours everything started again. However, your starting position in EotM correlated with where your server was located in EB....Green for winning servers, Blue for second place, and red for dead last. The red Team usually lost a lot in EotM, green usually won, and for some damn reason Blue had one of the most highly defensible positions in the entirety of WvW. I had so much fun pouring oil over the unsuspecting, or blowing up an ice bridge, allowing you all to fall to your doom. Then again, there was always certain individuals that had more fun working against their own team, by blowing up bridges when "allies" were crossing positions.

Still EotM players came out of EotM for the general legendary rewards. WvW on EB and the Bl's got a quick body infusion of players which helped extend the life of general combat for the format overall. But there's no more infusions to be had. EotM is empty, you will not be getting any new infusion of players from that area.

Just came back after a long break.. everytime I enter EOTM it's in Overflow map.. what happened to EOTM? IS it really that full? Or what is that? Thanks

MMOs are all about progression unlike Battle Royals and MOBAs and stuff like that. Removing the main progression aspect of EoTM killed the game mode. Anybody with common sense could see this as a bad move from a mile away but WvW is full of bad game design decisions, no offense. But there could been some good intentions to this. Killing off EoTM would force people back into the WvW maps since population is way too spread as is.

Edge of the Mist had no real progression. It was the "Waiting Room" For players who had very long ques and still wanted to battle. Early formation, even EotM had a que, sadly. But then they came up with overpopulated maps, and anyone could bring their family and friends into Overflow. But make no mistake there was no true rewards in EotM, it was pretty much nothing more than...The Waiting Room.

No EoTM was Champ Train like PvE but with the risk of Pvp. It had balanced Factions since it wasn't server specific, as this was before server links.

Honestly this why EoTM for most severs was more popular than the actual WvW maps since they both had same rewards. Later on Pip system came in and EoTM was left hanging and people just stayed in PvE since WvW just never really balanced or fun.

lets hope whos in charge in wvw focuses on what players now demand. =)

they can do an ingame poll. that should be more accurate than forums where only few visit.

Wait.. where did you play EoTM?

Risk of PvP? Only if you stayed behind and sat on the boss... people actively coordinated to avoid fights. There were two or three Guilds with the EoTM tag that existed on multiple servers to coordinate...

And balanced? Heh...

It was popular because it was a champ train to level toons.
