What are people doing in PoF?

What is taking up your time in the expansion? It's only been about 3 weeks and I already find myself just doing the same monotonous stuff I did in HoT.
Everything leading up to this point was great but there's no real reason to continue doing bounties or events after you get the rewards from them.

  • Crawling along. Doing a story section once every few days. Exploring. Getting mastery points. Doing bounties. I haven’t really touched any collections except as I’ve gotten random drops and I’ve yet to max out the mastery lines on my 4 mounts.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet might give it to you.

Still exploring and working on getting alts through the story. Usually mission or two per day, since dailies take up most of my limited gaming time. Ran around with a couple of bounty trains, but other than that I've left bounties untouched since I can't solo them.

Haven't even started on collections or achievements.

Even my main is still on Act 2 (just starting). Have all the maps done except 6 hearts in Vabbi. All my toons have at least been as far as Vabbi (mostly for the ascended weapon collections). All I ever really see people doing are bounty trains and collections.

I finished that content in less then a week. We decided to go for the new guildhall: Windswept Haven. So we claimed that as a 4 man squad. That's where my focus is atm. A brand new hall building it from the ground up with just 4 people. Looking forward to our finished form of our kingdom <3

I've played through the story on one character, and now bringing alts through, and trying to work on story achievements as I go. Also doing map completions on main, and some on alts (compulsive mapper here). Working on achievements, which I think will take a while given the large number. I find achievements fun and frustrating, but I like doing them since it gives me some goals to chase. (compulsive achiever as well) Our guild claimed the new guild hall, and some are now working on redecorating.

I've just started joining in the bounty groups. Thanks to folks for tagging up and leading the way!

I've mostly been trying to find the little stories in the maps. I like the way item drops can lead you to an NPC who isn't marked as a mission, but then offers a task. It feels like finding little secrets in the maps. There's plenty to explore, though it's been hard just to stop and look around without getting attacked - the critters and monsters definitely keep everyone busy.

Overall, i've very much enjoyed this expansion. The maps are as beautiful as ever, maybe the best in my opinion, and the story was fun to play. As a GW player, I have really liked seeing some lore from that time.

I'm doing what I've always been doing in this game: explore maps, play story on whichever character I feel like (got the first 2 through to the end of the story this weekend, and have a few more at various places of act 1), or just aimlessly walk around and see what I can find. My main druid has completed story as well as 3/5 maps and is currently getting lost in Desolation. I expect to keep having fun with these maps for a long time.

  • usnedward.9023usnedward.9023 Member ✭✭✭

I completed each map and the story in progression. Took my time and had a great time with it. Took about 1.5 weeks as I didn't want to rush through it like I did with HoT. Now I am working on the Griffon mount as well as other types of play to get more masteries. I have seen some people comment here and there "now what" or "bored". I haven't reached a point in boredom at all in this game. I started story on another toon and just work on other achievements here and there. I find it hard to believe that this soon into the release that somee has done EVERYTHING but then again, I could be wrong.

  • Kiza.5630Kiza.5630 Member ✭✭✭

What I did in HoT maps: wait for a meta map timer to reset, put up an LFG for it, steamroll the map with 50 people for ~1.5h. Do some boss event.

Yes I probably "rushed" PoF and I really enjoyed the madness! :) Finished all maps and the story. What I now do in PoF maps is not very different: go to a map and either form a ~10 player bounty squad for ~1h or go to Desolation/Vabbi and try to get the events there going. The only difference from HoT is that they are not connected and don't involve the whole map. Yes, they feel less epic but at the same time you are not bound to a map reset timer where you need to finish stuff IRL before or after certain times in the evening.

And I honestly don't understand the loot craze you hear in almost every discussion after in-game events or elsewhere. It's also only ~2 weeks, so nobody really knows 100% what loot there is. The choya pinata madness started only days ago, before that nobody even bothered to put the casino blitz on LFG.

I also do the events just for fun. I don't really care for the loot. Apart from the immediate loot you can make a lot of gold with the unidentified stuff on the new maps and the trade chests and to some point with crafting. I feel even a lot more than HoT maps.

I'm probably crazy, but I also kinda love the Highlands treasure hunt. Yes, speeding around with the griffon digging up "kitten loot".

Most also seem to forget they are not meant to completely replace everything. There are loads of other lvl 80 maps. No need to stay in the crystal desert every evening.

Still mastering new elites, gaining MPs for mounts, working on Achievement Points, haven't finished story-line for a single character yet, and still have to touch Vabbi.
I'm in no hurry to finish everything and sit around with nothing to do.

DYING! Mobs are way to close together and there is no need for a vet every 2 ft!! Its nuts. Cant enjoy the effort they put into the maps as you aggro from like 12 inches and then there are 4 thousand mobs, just silly. I get making it a bit tougher but this is silly.

yea, gotta add. you SHOULD NOT IN ANY WAY be aggroing mobs from half way across the map. just sad.

And ANET.....my ranged weapon (SB,renegade) should be powerful enough to kill mobs but instead it just pisses em off, like the harpy spellbreakers...really?!)

I got my Jackal within the first 24 hours, completed the story mode within a few more days, started and then fully unlocked the griffon about half a week ago, and then I set out to fully max the elite specs on my alts. Right now I'm at about 5.5 out of 9? After that's done, I've still got some collections/sidequests to clear up, and might run the story a few more times. Now, once I've done all the "one time" things? I don't know. Bounties don't interest me. I think I'll be fine through LWs4 though.

    daily login and occasionally wvw.
The expansion gave me over 70 hours of content and was totally worth it, but now i am just waiting for LS4 or new content.

  • ProtoGunner.4953ProtoGunner.4953 Member ✭✭✭✭

I take my time (not like in HoT). So I am now in Vabbi with story, did some map completion and working on the mounts and some mastery points. Not really much else. When I am done I take a second character through it etc. There isn't really much to do nor any endgame unfortunately. The maps look and feel great though. I am happy there are so many other games be cause without them I would have been finished with most things within two weeks. The expansion really feels a bit on the lower end and I wonder where 'it's everything about content' remains.

  • To be honest, the biggest lure for me was to unlock the raptor and gather enough hero points so i can play the new elite specs. I find the PoF maps, although gorgeous and very interesting to look at, to be full of trash mobs with huge agro ranges that kind of ruin exploring the area for me. I have been spending more and more time in Tyria knocking out world completion there.

I am mapping with my other characters now. I have act 1 and mastery level 3 on the first 4 mounts. If I do acts 2 and 3 I would feel I would have to go for a fully mastered griffon. I also do not want to go for mastery level 4 because I leaned in LS3 that I should save some points for the season masteries.

I do not even rush through content but I am pretty much done to what I call done. I wish POF had been more replayable so it is not a matter of small stuff like 'get map completion' and such.

edit: I also did not do any elites. I am waiting for the balance patch to see if any are worth investing time into.

New to the game? Feel free to give a yell if you need PVE help.

me doing? getting angry with this xpack. getting killed everywere, mounts are useless i get dismounted everywere. if i am in big group i am always the one who get hit by traps who are not visable. this game is just trolling the customers it has just only make them angry. this zones you cant explore at your own. and zone that has to be discovered you dont know the way. get attacked everywere every mob. its just a rage xpack. the desolation utter trash. i am a solo player but since release i only have played in crystal deserd and today i thought i go to other zones for exploring and mastery points but what a big fail again. the one who make this zones are immortal like every game the game masters have buffs so they cant die. but for fair players its impossible without getting angry. i thought nice new xpack i buy deluxe edition to have some fun for a long time but only good is crystal deserd. storys are not normal too much trash talk. story for half hour 5 minute mission and 25 minutes stuped talk that i dont understand i dont know the lore or storys i want it skipable. its a big frustration the story. i want it for mastery points nothing more.
sure if you like your made story and you think its fantastic yes be happy but dont share it to ppl that dont care storys. everyone may have fun in a game and ppl who dont like it cant skip it. i am only at the third part of the story and i want for a fix for dialogs skipable. ppl get much disconnects in storys and have to do them all over again but if you cut the talk out of it you can get it done in few minutes and so less risk for disconnect and do all over again.

srry to be bad but this is my opinion and nothing more

after this post i got revved by another player i thank him so i go to the hero points where i died. i got attacked i kill the mob then another mob i attack it and i nearly died. and the mobs also nearly died. WHAT HAPPEN a kitten veteran spawn near me and he killed me om*g what a game. you only want our money we can forget our nice game pleasure. this is just make ppl angry and if they like me post our frustration here we get an infraction. its nothing more then irl if you make ppl angry they swear. please make it a better game and dont program it like this. even if a map full of mobs looks cool on screenshot, it dont must be a hell for the players. we keep your company alive and we get this back.

Grind gold and gemstones in HoT for griffon and funerary armor. Oh, the irony...

  • I have yet to fully map Domain of Vabbi, kinda needed a break after finishing Desolation (initial TD levels of frustration to find your way around first run). I've been working on the elite spec unlocks , got engi and guardian done, and halfway through with necro and ele now. Tagging bounties when I catch groups for them, as I only seem to get a pitiful 2 elegy mosaics per legendary and I really want a bow.

Luckily I've been exploring on my Warrior so I haven't had quite as much trouble as you, but I totally agree about the HPs. There are some that it is just not worth trying to do without a lot of ppl around because of the wandering mobs that join the fight. There is one HP in Elon Riverlands where I always seem to attract AT LEAST one, sometimes 2 hydras in the middle of the fight. What a pain for just a HP!

As for the OP, I'm with many of those posting here: taking my time through the story because the first few days were buggy and laggy. I have plenty left to do.

    Good luck, have fun.

next fail discovered. poi chantry of shadows mastery point, take a gun and kill something. i go there and the door closed behind me so i everytime have to take waypoint. the mesmer portal thing there only works to get outside. the mastery npc said if you lose the gun you can get a new one for free. but door close so i have to teleport from wp again. and after few minutes of tries all mobs despawn and i cant get further. i dont know whats to point of this but i feel i cant enjoy the game like i did in heart of thorns. in pof i get angry with every mastery i try. chef is also a fail. missing ingrediant throws and off targetting. and he walks away when i throw.
pls put something in gem story like waypoint pack but then pof mastery pack for 5 euro because its not worth more. paid 80 euro for pof so i want this for free.
heart of thorns was so much better. just a jp and loot the mastery and not so bad made missions without explanation.

i serious have to put on music to calm me down when playing guild wars 2 path of anger. its not normal...

Just finished the story and slowly settling in to exploring every desert nook and cranny. HoT for trains, PoF to chill. Great days.

  • DearlyMe.5320DearlyMe.5320 Member ✭✭✭

I don't get everything done at once. I already did the story, got the griffon, but now I still have mastery points and elites to work on. For each new character who reaches 80, I go back to these maps, including HoT. I'm not going to stop going to them just because I'm done with one character. They add extra variety for me in how I feel like playing that day.

Mains :: Gwenyna (Sylvari Chronomancer) and Nyniendha (Sylvari Reaper)
    7 Sylvari | 7 Asura | 3 Norn | 3 Human | 4 Charr
    https://dearlyme.tumblr.com/

  • I am still playing the game as a whole. I am enjoying every aspect. My other half and I just finished LS2 and HoT on one char each, we are working on LS3 together. We have done the first part of PoF just to get access to the new areas but we will not rush anything. We both have SOS (shiny object syndrome) which means that while we are doing one thing something else pops up and we get distracted and go do an event or whatever (even if we had already done about 50 times, lol) until we remember what we were there for in the first place.

  • Well.... I got my Griffon on Saturday (took pretty much all day). Yesterday I did casino blitz a couple time times. Got my butt handed to me by a number of bounties. And finished getting the mastery points in Crystal Oasis and Desert Highlands. I think I have 1 or 2 to go in Elon Riverlands. Then I still need to do Vabbi and the Desolation. Obviously doing some mapping along that way cause...hey, need that xp for my mastery bars.

Once I'm done with those, I'll take a look at other achievements that don't have associated mastery points. And I'd like to look into what I need to do to get the new armor skins. And I still have to unlock 5 of the elite specs, which means Hero Point hunting. Still have plenty to do.

Toss in there my bouts of wvw and spvp.... yup, plenty to do.

Don't believe anything you've heard. None of it is remotely close to my actual insanity.

I'm slowly working on achievements and the griffon, but the 1 point achievement rewards are not exactly encouraging. I see no reason not to give more fulsome rewards like 3,5 and 10 more consistently than just 1. I can understand it for tiering purposes, but when a gold medal for an adventure is worth a single point, that does not feel right.

Maybe when I'll feel an urge to play some world bossed/HoT metas/fractals/raids with friends. But not the PoF. That thing is just plain boring. Nothing to see here, citizen, move along.

  • This kind of thread is always going to be highly subjective. What people say will depend on how much their personal interests overlap with what the expac provides. Since you asked, this is what I'm doing or would like to do in the expac. It's not all there is to do, it's just my to-do list:

    • Collecting all the mounts and training them up
    • Exploring and mapping the highly scenic new maps (sailing down a sulpherous river on a skimmer? Hell yeah!)
    • Doing all the races (they're actually good and fun to repeat)
    • Doing all the supply runs (these are suprisingly fun too)
    • Completing all the achievements (yes, some rewards aren't as good as they can be, but many of the achievements are fun to do, regardless of reward)
    • Completing the collections
    • Story (this time there are actually some likeable characters and moving moments)
    • Training up the elite specs for all nine classes
    • Casino coins blitz
    • Getting into Augury rock
    • Getting all the bounties at least once
  • There is a whole lots of achievement and ascended weapon going around.

While this is a great list and I agree with it; none of it has any long-game repeatability. All off these can be done in a week or two (if fast player) or a month or two if taking your time. What comes after?

With a single character, maybe. There's plenty of us altaholics who'll be busy with those for years to come. I still have some alts who aren't even done with core Tyria, let alone HoT.
