What you excited about for Halloween event?

With all the (many) recent posts about the disaster of build templates, I want to have a positive post about the upcoming Halloween event next week.

So what event are you looking forward to the most? Personally I love the clock tower. There is just something about it that makes me love doing it over and over again.

beating clocktower three times in a row first try every day
    and also, new skins, woo!

  • My daughter started this game during the halloween event. I love playing it with her every year.

Still have a few stacks on my Daredevil from last year's run lol. at least now we can salvage it, so that's good.

I'm looking forward to making some easy gold selling bags, it's a nice diversion from the usual activities, and they usually try to add new items each year, so that's always exciting.

  • Nothing. It was fun the first year though... It's too flashy and I'll avoid Lion's Arch like the plague for the duration. The Labyrinth is probably what has the most atmosphere, yet it plays like an Asian MMO where you are constantly grinding, expecting the same actions to yield different results. I'm thinking ESO does it better while being far less invasive (should you feel like not dealing with it at all)

You mileage may vary, of course.

The atmosphere and the general event is fun. When first started leveled 8 alts to max during the first Halloween as well so some of that is nostalgia.

What am I excited for? Not much.

Already have the achievements, the 50 AP from the annual achievement will be nice and the new helm or whatever, I suppose. I'll do the content until I get that and any quick dailies to get the weapons chests, those are quite useful now that you can select any stats.

    Excited in a positive way:

    • The Clock Tower
    • Lion's Arch re-skin
    • Doing my favorite annual achievements (e. g. Carver)
    • Drooburt. I cannot help it, Halloween in GW2 is not the same for me without this Quaggan. Especially his dialogue with the Mad King.
    • The race-tracks.
    • Descent into Madness
    • Plenty of valuable food to restock, for the rest of the year.

Also looking forward to new stuff as every year, but I would not mind a 1:1 copy of last year's event.

  • miraude.2107miraude.2107 Member ✭✭✭

Trying to climb the clock tower this year on my new comp instead of my old potato. Also actually seeing textures, details, etc instead of viewing everything with N64 graphics.
Actually attempting the dungeon(?) this year.
Getting one of the kitties for my home instance.
Maybe actually figuring out the race this go around (will prolly use the jackal because I still hate trying to drift on the beetle).
Hoarding candy corn so I can hopefully update to the King-Sized Candy Corn node this year.

Doing the AP stuff, colecting some skins, maybe even farming the lab for some gold.

If you want X, and Y is needed to get get X, you also have to want Y if you really want X. If you don't want Y, you don't want X. It's easy.
Pro: Build Templates, Dungeon Rework, UW content
Contra: New Races, New Classes, New Weapons, Capes

  • I'm excited for the whole atmosphere takeover by the Mad King. I love Arenanet's art direction and sounds for spooky areas.

When Gw1 started repeating the same festivals every year with no new content, people were sad yet understood that GW1 was coming to the end of its popularity as people moved games and looked towards GW2.

Apparently ANet now think that repeating the same things over again every year, despite the game being "alive", just for some AP or skins that it's impossible to grind out in a year (hype for 50/1000 AP amirite) is absolutely fine. Or maybe they don't and GW2 is coming to an end too.

I'm most excited for fewer and fewer people engaging in halloween so that hopefully devs realise that they can't leave a game on autopilot and expect it to do well. Festivals are meant to be exciting and engaging, not mindnumbing.

This^. Exciting? Maybe only to new players. Same old boring stuff every year for the rest of us. Anyway, the atmosphere is not liked before due to shrinking player base.

  • I'm just in it for the new skins (if any). Once acquired, I'm out.

 Same here, only that the shops have won and youngsters are celebrating it now. Such nonsense, since we have our own season of putting on costumes and having fun. Oh well, capitalism prevailed once more. ;)

I'm not. Probably just finish the annual AP then play something else until the next chapter comes out

  • hugo.4705hugo.4705 Member ✭✭✭✭

Getting AP, the anual reward mini or whatever it is. Unlocking some of the new skins. (I really like The Cure, very happy to have it). Ah and finishing the tower for the 6th time. And well run in circle, triangle, star or any other shapes in the lab.

Suggestion for Anet: Lunatic Inquisition Hard Mode:
    -Very dense dark fog
-In addition of steve, lich and candy lieutenant are running around.
-2 times longer, 2x more rewards.
-New events popping: swarm of angry ghosts, skeleton raids, seeker hunting hiding players....

+++In creative mood. New Engie Elite spec' , Housing , New asuran expansion , Designing a new lounge , New GameMode
+++NEW: AEP Asuran Expansion Project available on WIKI.

  • dark LA, the AP and the first episode drop after halloween.

Halloween is nice, but like all festivals it is JUST TOO LONG.

Uhhhhm, have you seen WoW's events? People are still putting out fires every Halloween in the little towns since 2005. Maybe you should just avoid the game when there's a seasonal event going on be for your own health?

I enjoy the festival overall, and short stints in the Lab. I know I'll have fun, and I'm keen to see anything new they introduce. I don't know if without Gaile around there will be devs roaming LA to turn masses of players into things , still I'm happy to do that silliness if it happens. But excited the most? Honestly, it's reaping a pile of AP. With my dailies capped and all the low hanging fruit in PvE gathered, my march towards the Radiant backpiece is pretty slow right now. So I'm looking forward to getting some easy AP again.

  • Beating the clock tower after 11 months rest (takes me always 100 times till I got back in the rhyme.)

And a new savanger hunt for a new book skin. (hopefully).

The next chapter in the Blood Prince and Mad King Thorn's storyline
    ...oh wait.

The whole point of a social game is to play with the people you want to play with, not be forced to play with the people you don't.

It's really hard to be excited when I know that most Festivals have only had re skins and the resuscitation of one particular Halloween event. Which, by the way, is not considered new content.

I guess I enjoy the ability to get new skins every year but I'm so past the point where Cosmetics matter right now. I remember when Prince Thorns story was added to Halloween and I was very happy to see that. However, I was disappointed to see that it would take from September 18th last year until January 8th this year before another episode of the living story would be released. It was just a four-month hiatus but they could use to do some story work while they just flipped on festivals and then flipped them off when they needed.

To make matters worse, nothing new happened at all with Halloween or Wintersday. I literally cannot fathom how they make so much money and don't have the ability to produce new content for festivals.

Potential requires action in order to be realized.

Well the festival content team was like 3-4 people so no wonder they couldent do much the stuff they did with so few people were awesome.

Dident we get the new book scavanger hunr last year?

That's not appealing to me unfortunately. Like I mentioned in my post, I just see the modern festivals as on/off switch content that hasn't been updated since 2015.

Potential requires action in order to be realized.

    Let's see:

    • Running Laby to farm up materials to craft cool skins like The Crossing or Touch of Madness (which are always nice fistfuls of gold on the side)
    • Clock tower, because clock tower.
    • Hearing all of Mad King Thorn's dialogues. Again, that voice actor deserves a medal.
    • Mad King Says
    • Using Thorn's Wand to tell jokes while being brokenly OP in Costume Brawls. It's hilarious.
    • Silently hoping for new stuff but being fine with the usual because Halloween is Halloween.
    • [Edit] Also getting to lead new players through their first time in Halloween events. I can almost see their eyes sparkling.
