Ecto Gamble Addiction Help

Hello, I'm Punky and I have a major problem, it's called Gambling Addiction and it has now seeped into my GW2 too, making it very hard to keep hold of thousands of gold I have gathered to then only be reduced to mere ~~100g. I would like to ask people who have the same issue or have in the past had a habit of gambling all their fortune away, what is your secret of not doing it? How do you keep away from those monetarily destructive rolls? I'd be thankfull to anyone who can respond to this topic in the most friendly and helpfull way. I really don't wanna start a habit of going from 3000g+ to 10g every few months again..

I used to be like that. I feel like I've bought everything that I've ever wanted from the Black Lion Store that I felt was a necessary. Not skins or anything mind you.

I save all of my gold just in case another mount like the Griffin comes along again. It's always the "what if" for me. I felt like I missed out on getting a griffin a long time ago because I couldn't save.

I always keep a little note inside my head now that says....'What if a new mount comes out that might cost us 300 - 400 gold and I want to put my hard earned gold towards that new mount?" or "What if I need the gold for something very important in the game?"

What if Anet has something really big planned and they want to see our faces when it comes out and as it turns out, it's probably half a thousand in gold and we're going to need it.

"What if, what if, what if, what if, What if, what if, what if, what if,What if, what if, what if, what if,What if, what if, what if, what if,What if, what if, what if, what if,What if, what if, what if, what if,What if, what if, what if, what if,What if, what if, what if, what if,What if, what if, what if, what if,What if, what if, what if, what if,What if, what if, what if, what if,What if, what if, what if, what if,What if, what if, what if, what if,What if, what if, what if, what if,What if, what if, what if, what if,What if, what if, what if, what if."

If it affects real life - utilize the resources that are out there to get help control. For ingame stuff, one strategy that I have heard of is to "hide" the gold in your wallet as TP orders. i.e. if you have 1k gold, instead of letting it sit there, put a buy order for Eternity or Chak egg sac or something for 900 gold, leaving only 100g visible. It disguises the true amount of gold that you have and also creates one more step (cancel order and go collect coin) to make it harder to just blow it on a whim, but it is still there if you want to buy something.. Good luck.

That's a great way of looking at it, I always try restrict myself, I even tried to delete the damn Merchants (I have both Tarrktun and the Sandstorm) but I find the convenience that the vendor they offer far too valuable (selling junk on the fly without having to spawn a merchant or even stop so deleting them is kind of not an option for me. It's very hard to resist trying out your luck tho but when you go down to under 100g it really sinks in and I lose alot of my motivation and interest to play cause of it.

In my opinion, if it affects real life, as in you are pulling out your credit card to buy gems to sell for gold, and then gamble...just uninstall the game and seek professional counselling. The game won't be going anywhere, and you can always re-install it later without losing any in game items, etc. But if it becomes a means for you to gamble with real money, that is as dangerous as walking into a casino on online poker web portal.

Here's a way to at least limit your loss to 500g max weekly. It can and will backfire if you need emergency gold in excess of 500, but at least you'll be limited in your addiction.

  1. Make a personal guild.
  2. Upgrade the guild storage once.
  3. Deposit all your gold. Now all your gold is safe there, provided you don't invite anyone or accidentally leave that guild. As I have said, you can only withdraw a maximum of 500g from it weekly.Note: That 500g weekly withdrawal cap is account-bound and includes gold from mail as well.

You have two options: Find a therapist and stop playing GW2, if you can't stop yourself from gambling. It's not healthy to feed your addiction in-game or in real life, so professional help is mandatory.

If your gambling in GW2 stems from your gambling addiction, then I would advise you seek professional help and stop playing the game for now. If you can't do so then sending gold or items bought with gold to people you trust for them to hold on to and not give you back for a certain period of time could help to prevent you from gambling away everything. I wish you all the best but really you shouldn't be asking this question on the forums, gambling addiction is something that requires the help of qualified professionals, and not players who can give some tips on how to limit your gold spendage.

I had the same addiction but not to the level you had. And I won a precursor, several hundreds of gold, and ectos. Yet I also lost many too. I am lucky but all in all it is a waste. Best way to defeat is to put a goal in front of you. One goal at a time, like choose a legendary you want and start doing it. Choose a character and aim to have a legendary armor, weapons, runes for it. And gice yourself a small budget if you cant stop gambling. Say that "my limit for gambling is x gold and x ectos. It is over after that". Decide a base gold value and do not spend more than that for anything.

If you can stick with it it would be great. If cant, just use the goal part. Worked for me and many others :) And remember this; house always wins.
