FPS drop at some places?

I'm curious because it happens on my laptop and desktop PC. Sometimes its happens and sometimes doesn't.

For example,[Joko's Domain Waypoint] I take this wp and walk through the passage to north, when I walk out of the passage and see stuffs in very far distance popping out (and it's very normal), I will get a FPS drop from 60 to 57 and its a very obvious spike that I can sense. Same FPS drop happens at desert border spawn, when you walk out and take these pads down to north camp, there is also a slight spike. Many places in silverwaste have this problem too.

this is pretty common, when using old game engine with directx 9 support.

From my experience, all Way Points locations increase CPU usage and subsequently decrease FPS. Way point and then slowly walk away from the point and you'll see CPU usage drop. This happens regardless if people or NPC's are at the way point. It's becomes worse when NPC's and other players are present.

For what you're describing, it's simply the game having to calculate distant objects as Field of View and Distance increases. Over the past year it seems the Devs's have tried to increase the games visual quality by including distant objects. Or, its the pathing that's been added for mounts to appear from below the ground?

It's not the wp's problem I think, even if I don't take the wp and just walk to there, it still happens sometimes..I have the similar thought like you, the game is rendering distant stuff? But this kind of stutter just happens at some specific places, and I don't have problem for rendering/loading stuffs in general cases.

Edit: added 2 locations where the stutter happens. (Desert borderland north spawn)

I somehow fixed most of my FPS issues, I used to get more than 60 before PoF and after I was getting almost 30 changing to 20 and also 10. Worst cases were 2 FPS no joke!

But I managed to do a few things to fix the problems at least for me on Win 10:Nuke the xbox app completelySet values of GameDVR via regedit to '0'*Set power settings to high performance

Best thing about all that that I was struggling to play more properly ever since I installed windows 10 and I had to lower the graphic settings every time a new expension came out starting from HoT to LS3 and finally PoF. I had to lower all my settings to the lowest and I did everything above and now I can finally play on ultra settings again and get steady fps of 59 with no change. 43~51 while maps are busy with more players around(Didn't test on WvW though).

Besides that even my PC works faster now:)

Thanks for the advice, but my problems haven't got solved, even if I re-installed my win10 and game client lul.One of my friends (a game dev) checked this and told me it is just because programmers suck rofl...

I've found fps in PoF maps to be a lot worse than I get anywhere else in the game. If I'm solo roaming the fps is about 10-15 fps lower than in HoT and core maps. If I'm in a PoF squad just running with mounts from a WP then I get 30-35fps less than running with a squad in core or HoT!

If Casino Blitz is on then I get less fps than at teq!!

I have same problem. Insane FPS drops at some places in PoF maps, crowded or not, the FPS drop is the same. I turn settings to lowest and it's still about 10-20 FPS. At Casino blitz sometimes 2-7 FPS and sometimes NO DIFFERENCE between lowest and max settings, still same low FPS. Same at the branded areas. its all like a bad stop motion movie.

I can run max settings everywhere else. Core tyria and HoT is no problem on max settings. But an empty Amnoon can be so much worse lag wise than a full Dragons Stand event.Why is i like this?Is it my computer or is it the game?Do we have to upgrade our computers just to play PoF? It's ridiculous.So much problem after PoF release, chat failure, disconnections, game craches, insane lag.. It's like every patch just solve one issue temporary and it will be back the next day but hand in hand with a friend.

Please make PoF just as smooth as the rest of the game! I know Anet can do better.

Yeah the Windows 10 Gaming Mode is borked beyond use. Turn it off and it helps.

That doesn't help me tho, i have windows 7 cause i really don't like the newer ones.

I didn't have any of these issues before PoF. Actually, i think it started after some of the earlier patches, just a few days after PoF realease.
