UPDATE!!!:
I have fixed it!
For future reference, it's very simple; here's how(it was 1 of 2 things):
If you're on Windows 10 go to Control Panel>Network and Internet>Network and Sharing Center. On the left-hand side, click "Change adapter settings". This will open a new window of various connections. Right click the connection you are using and click on Properties, you'll be under the Networking tab in the next box that opens. UNCHECK QoS Packet Scheduler and make sure IPv6 is checked. You're done. For good measure, make sure you are using the Google DNS addresses.
Before I begin!!! Here is my log I got from using the -log command line

The issue I am having is described as such:
When downloading the game, I got just passed "Playable" before it started giving me issues. The specific issue is complicated. When I open the launcher it will begin downloading. It will download a few files indicated by the "FILES REMAINING" indicator, and then it will stop. It SAYS it is still downloading files, indicated by the "DOWNLOADING" indicator. Yet, it never finishes even if I let it run for hours. In fact when I do let it run for hours, my computer will freeze OR the "FILES REMAINING" will totally disappear, all the while I am still at 0% downloaded. Now, before, it was not messing up in this way. It seems the longer I have tried to force it to download, the more glitchy it has become. The only way I can get it to actually download files properly is by opening and closing the launcher, which forces it to download 3-4 files and then hang again for eternity. Here are things I have attempted to remedy the issue:
Deleting ALL files associated with guild wars 2 INCLUDING: The cache files hidden in %temp%, the files hidden in
%appdata%, the files in My Documents, the main game files, and the downloaded launcher
Completely redownloading the game from SCRATCH after the above^ steps
Allowing all the ports through my router
Using various, proper IPs with the -assetsrv command line
Allowing ALL ports by putting my router in DMZ Mode
Putting the IPs for the assetsrv in my host file in system32
Running as administrator
Running the repair tool multiple times
Using a VPN
Changing language
Starting the game and letting it stream all the files while I play (it streamed none as far as I am aware)
Changing the stream type in-game in the options to Max
Changing my DNS
Flushing my DNS
Allowing the app through my Firewall
Disabling Firewall
If I think of any more, I will add them.
Some help with this would be amazing. Downloading on another computer isn't on the table. I really would like to play again I know this is most likely on my end.

You can contact the Tech CS Team (and browse the Knowledge Base) via the 'Support' link above/below.
Good luck.
I already have and they are not responding (been 2 days). They gave me an immediate initial response, but nothing since. I am hoping someone on these forums is technologically inclined enough to understand what my issue might be!
Well, the CS Team allows 72 hours for responses, so you should hear back soon.
Whilst you await a response, have you tried a VPN? Tried downloading directly from the source? (You should find that site posted in some of the other threads concerning difficulties with installation.)
Good luck.
As stated above, I have tried a VPN. Downloading directly from the source? Is there another, more direct way to download the game other than the launcher provided by ArenaNet?
Thank you.
Your log is basically only showing that the launcher was started. The log is only saved periodically and when you close the launcher, so if you took that log while it was running, you need to do it again - let it attempt to download for a minute, then close it. That said, the log will only reveal which file it's stuck on, which at most you can try to access in your browser in hopes it'll give a better reason.
Possible problems are anti-virus/firewall/security software blocking the file it's attempting to download, or your ISP could be doing something similar, which would require a VPN to get around.
For the -assetsrv option, try:
3.222.198.66
(this is the primary server - for future reference, lookup the IP using cmd.exe > nslookup origincdn.101.arenanetworks.com 1.1.1.1)
I'm one of the people having the Mac crashing issue. I finally gave up and wanted to try just reinstalling, but the install stalls out at about 35% and won't go any further on the Mac 64 bit client.
This is exactly how I did it, though. Let it run for a while and then closed it and the log you see is what I got, sadly. Not much information.
VPN straight up doesn't work as of right now. I've tried multiple different ones.
I've tried this as well but I have not tried that specific IP. I will give it a whirl. Thank you kindly for a thoughtful response.
EDIT: No dice.
They fixed it by disabling the QoS packet scheduler and enabling IPv6 (under the adapter's properties) according to reddit.
I have the same probleme but my download stuck at 35 % then the download rate go to 15mbs to 0kbs .. then get stuck
Yep I have a friend who has the same problem as this. 35% (where I got stuck) and stalls. Follow my fix (don't forget to disconnect and reconnect after you have applied the new settings) and restart the launcher, should be good to go. If you have any trouble let me know.> @Healix.5819 said:
Yeah that's my reddit post
:P
I advize everyone to refrain from using Google DNS.
Also, if this somehow indeed helps with the download of the game, I recommend you re-check the QoS Packet Scheduler once you are done with the download.
♀ Gallery: Guild Wars 1 Memories
No more LW episodes, only Expansions and Side Stories, please!
This is actually terrible advice on both counts. I've seen official tech support from ArenaNet tell people to use Google DNS.
Also if you do any research on it, QoS Pack Scheduler is something anyone with minor Networking knowledge will tell you to turn off with every installation of Windows. It's a horrible feature.
Did everything here and mine still won"t move past 255,643 files remaining. Giving up for now. Guess I wasn't meant to reinstall lol
Have been getting the same issue as of late. Tried that method and no solution has come of it. Let's hope the new patch fixes this.
Zed I am getting the same thing. had to redownload the game 100000 times. it would get stuck on 6% playable then freeze up. uninstalled it and reinstalled it again. i did what you said with the control panel and im going to reinstall game again. This was all because I thought uninstalling it would STOP THE HIGH SPIKE PING I got since December 17 (Wintersday) patch. Im reinstalling again.. lets see what happens
Ok this is my 4th download and it WILL NOT go past 33%. Ive tried everything. Over and Over reinstalling, uninstalling, taking firewall off, Ive done everything that was mentioned above and STILL CANNOT download past 33%. It says playable but when I try the loading screen just goes around and around and around. Is this because of the last patch on December 17 because that is when everything started happening. Please Anet what is going on. Does this mean I CANNOT play the game anymore or Do we have to wait for Wintersday to end and hopefully the next patch will work. Can we get some answers as to why people are having this same issue. Cannot download game again. This is a very good way to lose players
Zed and my fellow playmates, were you able to download the game and get on. If so please tell me what you did. Thanks
It installs successfully, but when it goes to the 2nd installation (im guessing for the patches) it stops at 35%. What can I do.. Ive changed ethernet portals; disabled firewall; unchecked the QoS; cleaned all temp files everything out.. And still on the 2nd patch install it stops. Please Please help I miss playing GW2
This may, or may not, be helpful: https://help.guildwars2.com/hc/en-us/articles/230665807-Problems-Downloading-or-Patching
Good luck.
Same issue currently. Got a new PC set up, and when patching after first install the installer hangs up at 35%, well past "playable", but the client will crash if you attempt to launch the game.
Done all the troubleshooting as recommended. Probably just going to move the game file from my old PC to the new one at this point.
The launcher is definitely having some issues.
This is definitely Game and Anet related since the Patch December 17 (Wintersday) Never seen so many people have the same issue and this is a great way to lose people from the game if they cannot download it. Ive done EVERYTHING that has been mentioned. I even went so far as repairing the files before I start the launcher to download the patches. Im just hoping when Anet comes back from vacation that this is all fixed and we can download it smoothly. Im just sad because im on vacation and really wanted to play.
Adding myself to the list of people with the same issue.
I've
changed QoS setting
tried a different PC on the same network
deleted gw2 cache
deleted .dat file
tried a different HDD and SSD
tried restarting the PC
tried restarting router and modem
tried allowing through firewall (and disabling firewall entirely)
tried launching the game and playing while it downloads
tried using a VPN
tried everything under the sun and it refuses to download.
I quit the launcher and restarted it, and it starts at 0% which is normal, then it goes to 11%-12% and freezes again, after that it just consistently stays at 0% and the mpbs goes from 3mb/sec down to 200kbps and then backup to 3mpbs, every few minutes. When the download is working normally it downloads at 15mbps, but when this issue starts happening it locks itself to 2-3mpbs and even though the "Downloading: " number goes up, the actual file size in the guild wars 2 folder doesn't change. There is an issue with your launcher and it needs to be fixed. Blaming the ISP or people's set ups doesn't work when its a multitude of people that have the issue. I know no one here has said that yet, i'm just future proofing for the random "well maybe its your provider" or "it could be your router." The issue isn't with my stuff, its with the launcher. Please fix this. I've been around since GW1 and I played every beta for gw2 until release... the fact that I can't play the game at all is really starting to get under my skin.

It's a bad patch server or something is interfering with your traffic. The file it downloaded was reported to be 42822986 bytes (40.8 MB), but it was supposed to be 94351336 bytes (89.9 MB). You can try to download this file through your browser if you want to compare:
http://assetcdn.101.arenanetworks.com/program/101/1/0/1464517
With encryption (ignore the certification error):
https://assetcdn.101.arenanetworks.com/program/101/1/0/1464517
Primary server:
http://origincdn.101.arenanetworks.com/program/101/1/0/1464517
Try a different patch server. These IPs are only valid for a few days and are for the primary servers (which wouldn't have an error, otherwise they all would):
-assetsrv 52.202.155.150
-assetsrv 100.24.171.100
I had the same problem. I have searched several forums and found something from anet about changing languages at the installer to force download. I did that and was able to get close to 50% (I think..it restarts at each change) but it locked up again and I had gone through all the languages, and it would not start. I sent an email to anet about it and was gathering the documents they ask for about diagnostics and ended starting the .exe file by accident
and it's working again. I initially stopped at 35% and was able to push it to 222K left before the language trick quit and am now at 146K and dropping. So far...so good...we'll see.
Update: IT WORKED!
Doesn't work for me. Devs fix this bs! NOW!
I was able to get it working by running the client from the command line with the following parameters:
B:\Guild Wars 2>gw2-64.exe -assetsrv 100.24.171.100
The other solutions mentioned did not work for me.
This doesn't work they need to fix this this is getting stupid. I was still able to play but the launcher just doesn't work I had to download most of the game via in game streaming ( it was the only way to get non abysmal speed ironically enough) and I could play for a while downloading the map I needed as I go but now 2 maps in a row the download just stops even though the bar is clearly full. Was there an official statement on this I mean surely this thing is top priority?!
I had this issue too, thought it was due to the Windows 10 upgrading I made. Adding the IP command line resolved it. Thanks to everyone for posting the various solutions. I assume it is okay to remove the command line to the shortcut?
Lastly, is this something I'm going to have to repeat at every game update?
You should remove that particular Command Line Argument, as it won't be valid in a few days, if not already.
No, you should have no issue in the future. The Devs are due back from holiday tomorrow.
Good luck.
I can confirm using 100.24.171.100 works. My log was filled with nothing but errors repeated over and over, redownloading the same packet over and over... file progress would simply disappear after while, and nothing ever updated.
So frustrating...I am also having the same issue. Recently got a new computer and upgraded to Windows 10, and am unable to download the game past a certain point. I didn't check the exact % where the initial download stopped, but I am only able to load all the core and HoT maps. Going into the PoF and LS4 maps is like sending my character into a black hole: the map never loads and my character is trapped in limbo lol (even logging out and logging in can't retrieve them from the non-loading map). Ever since the initial download (which was very smooth), my installer will show that it downloads up to 5 GB, but the actual .dat file doesn't change in size and the "number of files remaining" doesn't change, so I guess I'm just wasting bandwidth. The download speeds then drops to 0 and stays there. The only way to get any progress is to close and re-open the launcher, which seems to allow it to download another ~4 - 6 files, before it stops downloading (even though the installer says it's continuing to download, into the GB range). I then have to close and restart the installer to download the next 4 - 6 files. The "language switch" trick probably is just doing this -- forcing the installer to restart every time you switch languages. Is this a recent problem, or just a Windows 10 problem? I was able to download the entire .dat file in a single shot back on Windows 7, even if the download took me days. Now, running the installer for days doesn't achieve any more progress than if I run it for a few seconds and close/restart the installer.
This is getting really frustrating. I have tried all the solutions without any success. has anyone found a fix to this. seems it is getting stuck on the same file for everyone

This is getting ridiculous !!!
The log you posted only shows that the launcher was started. GW2 only periodically writes to the log and on exit, so you need to let it download for at least a few minutes, then exit. If you did do this and it still looks like that, then GW2 is failing to even create a connection, which was what the QoS/IPv6 problem looked like.
If you haven't tried it yet, try launching with:
-image -assetsrv 54.84.216.160 -patchconnections 1
(only use this while stuck)
I am also getting stuck on the file that's supposedly 42822986 (bytes?) large, same as one of the above posters. After "downloading" over 4 GB, I opened the log and found that it was that same file that failed to download 100 times in a row. I've been unable to download this file since I started trying to reinstall GW2 a few weeks ago. I can still download a few files using in-game streaming, but no luck when using the launcher to try to download/install files.
First attempt:
00005452: Error: Invalid Content-Range HTTP response for: 0x001658c5(u). Length: 42822986, Content-Range: bytes 0-94351335/94351336

All subsequent attempts show the same message, except the "consecutive" count increases by 1 each time
If it's a server problem, you should simply be able to launch the game with either:
-assetsrv 54.84.216.160
-assetsrv 52.202.5.88
(you can exit and relaunch after it downloads a few files, since using this will be slower)
If that's still stuck, delete Local.dat (under %appdata%/Guild Wars 2/ and/or Documents/Guild Wars 2/) and all gw2cache folders (under %temp%), then use the above option again. If that's still stuck, something is interfering with your connection (a software or ISP problem).
(see this post if you want to test this file in your browser - you have the same problem)
Yeah, this is quite annoying, I am not technically inclined, so all these solutions are all in foreign languages to me, if I attempted any of these, my computer would turn into an easy baker oven with a potato inside, all I'd be missing is the butter and chives, I will wait for an official fix, hopefully it won't take too long, these crashes, infinite loading screens, and other nuisances are rage inducing.
Guys,
I was having some trouble to install the game those days too,
It is the first time for me to play Guild Wars 2,
if you have any problem to download the patchs, just go and download a VPN like hotspotshield, and give it a try.
Post here if it resolves your problem...
Thanks
i wanted to come on here and thank you so much for -assetsrv 54.84.216.160 it worked
the speed was 3-5mb but worth it lol
came to say the .160 server worked. thanks!
Same exact here, thanks for sharing you original savior.
" -assetsrv origincdn.101.arenanetworks.com"
that command worked for me. Not only its downloading now (did already 12% while I am writing this) but the speed doesnt change at all. Client is downloading at 4 MB/S
Without anything but a browser opened, I have right now 221.02 Mbps downloading speed on my networking.
You are a Hero!
With -assetsrv 54.84.216.160 i downloaded about 10% like this then it wet really slow so i started the regular client and it downloads now with about 10-20 MB/s
Eh I tried everything listed above and still stuck at 40,5GB downloaded and 27,910 files remaining ;(
I have been having the same problem. Game is "playable", but keeps crashing after varying amounts of time. Game installation had stalled in the background.
Using -assetsrv 54.84.216.160 I was able to finish downloading.
Still a problem today (25th January). -assetsrv 54.84.216.160 to the rescue, though looks capped at a rubbish 4Mb/s! Thanks to @Healix.5819 for the (current) solution.
Downloaded patch normally but still stuck at 24,870 files... It's hard to play when youre network is fully used with "empty" donloading ;/
Delete Local.dat (found under %appdata%/Guild Wars 2/ and optionally under Documents/Guild Wars 2/) and all gw2cache folders under the %temp% folder, then launch with:
-log -image -assetsrv 54.84.216.160 -patchconnections 1
If it's still stuck, let it sit for 10+ minutes (while stuck), then exit and check the log. If it's not, let it download a few files, then exit and patch normally; repeat if necessary.
Ok it's downloading for now, THX!
Spent days literally looking up forum responses on how to fix this problem. Support team tried to help me before just telling me to contact my ISP becuase it's definitely their problem. THIS bloody advice is all I needed. I'll admit it's a bit tedious swapping back to delete appdata files and putting argument lines back in to the launch target, but hey this worked for me where all else failed. Thanks dude!
my extra problem is that when im trying to download, my internet connection crashes.
so i cant leave it on cuse it makes my internet crash on the pc and make me reset my router..
