Same here. And though unknowingly, the deity favored by my toon, which was created way before PoF, happens to be Kormir -- so yeah, a good reason for my toon to go Firebrand despite being while :P

I'd say human, since it's based on GW1's human monks and holy knights (for example the RL crusaders, or FF14/WoW-type Paladins).
Since humans are the only ones that actually have a religion and both bases for the profession are of religious nature, humans are the best fit.

But you can always roleplay whatever you want, for examples:
a Charr that uses Ascalonian Ghost Essence to wield light-blue magic,
or a Charr that converted to Human Gods worship,
or an Asura using some tech to extort and abuse Light magic.

  • Big white charr with that elegant nice face, because every single charr firebrand looks like that. Make sure to get radiant set and Ad Infinitum.
Now to be serious: Human > Norn > Charr > Sylvari > Asura.

I don't like sand. It's coarse, and rough, and irritating, and it gets everywhere.

    You wanna be big?
    Charr or Norn.

    You wanna be small?
    Asura.

    You wanna be stylish?
    Human or Sylvari.

I meant only a few per suggestion. You both have great ideas, but I also meant what you most preferred.

    Serious answer:

Races in Gw2 mean very little.

There are racial skills but they are balanced to be weaker then your normal skills.

You choose a race for 3 things here:

Story: You get different dialog etc.

    Fashion.

Size: In PvE it can be good to be small to see more.

AoE marker or in jumping puzzles.

In WvW/PvP both can be beneficial to you.

Many guardians choose to be big so the frail casters ,who often play small characters like asura , are harder to spot.

All in all, race doesnt matter much but there are some situation were it can make a small difference

Well, my Norn is a guardian, because being a royal "knight" to defend others fits the Norn. I didn't want to create 3rd human character.

I don't like sand. It's coarse, and rough, and irritating, and it gets everywhere.

  • Okay! Good ideas! Ill try to incorporate them into my characters

I have 2 Guardians, I picked Norn as my main because the whole Norn culture seems to revolve around protecting and preserving. My second is Asura just because watching an Asura run around with a big honkin' greatsword is just fun to watch.

Charrdian. The only answer is always charrdian! You know you get an extra dps boost for beeing a fluffy, sparkling, blue fire bringing cat!

  • Charr. If you disagree, then me and my warband would like to have words with you. And by words I mean fistipaws.

Charr and Asura fit the role less than the others imo.

Both these races tend to be more on the selfish side of things so Guardians which is more of a supporting your allies kind of profession in concept wouldn't be as common as magic users in the Asura race and Soldiers in the Charr War Machine.

  • Well, charr wouldn't. Their dedication to their warband is unmatched.

Asura are more driven to the magic side of Guardian. A mage in heavy amor not the more noble/paladin like archetype. Charr Guardian in lore are more uncommon in case of the charrs mistrust to all kind of magic. But the legions/warbands are pretty open to it if it's comes to accep it if it aids the warband/legion in battle. Even a npc for your personal story is a Charrdian.

I know this thread is old now, but I'd like to throw in my two-cents. As someone above me pointed out, you can RP your Guardian any way you want. You then kind of brushed it off as if you don't want to RP your own character. But from a lore standpoint there's only one race for the Guardian. That's Human. Guardian is a Paladin/Cleric type class that feeds it's vengeance by it's devotion to it's god. That's the Human race for you. If you want to play a Guardian based on the in-game reasons, you have your answer.

That being said, I play a Norn Guardian, and I head-cannon him in a way that he gets his powers from the Animal Spirits.

Bear gives me the fortitude, and endurance to withstand battles, and protect my allies. (Give protection, and Aegis.)
Raven gives me the intelligence and wisdom to be able to heal my allies wounds.
Wolf gives me the fervor and ferocity to enact my vengeance and burn my enemies.
Snow Leopard gives me the courage to fight alone, and not always rely on my allies. (Basically make a build that can solo content..)

So you can see that you can RP your character any way you want. I'm sure by the time you've read this you've already made your Guardian, and possibly leveled him/her up completely. (Out of curiosity, which race did you choose? Did you level your Guardian? What elite spec did you pick? Just me being nosey.) But for future characters, just play what you think looks cool. Try on gear/outfits in the preview tab, and try out the animations for your characters in the pvp lobby, and see what appeals to you.

  • IK, kinda...

    I'm doing Dragonhunter.

  • Norn and Human
I play a female Norn Dragonhunter. She is a bit small for a Norn so she grabbed the magic before strenght and only after she mastered her dueling skills.
    There you have it

  • Thanks for responding!

  • Charr make the best guardians.
    A Charridian.

  • Norn.
Some impressive style options. Especially if you incorporate some war paint.

There was this exceedingly eloquent post back at launch on this topic. I can in no way do justice to that bard’s prose, but it can be summarized as “I am Charr, I am a guardian. I protect my warband, for we are stronger together than alone. You fight one of us, you fight us all, and I shall be their bulwark.”

Gave me goosebumps and the choice from there was never regretted.

  • Wow.... that gives me goosebumps just reading that...

Hence my statement about fistipaws lol. It really was a great post and my summary is just that, a summary. Close though to the feeling it gave me when I first read it, and it is a really good lore/RP reason to play a charrdian.
