Best way to get ascended weapons?

Recommended Posts

The world bosses are not as good as fractals for ascended gear drops. The drop-chance from teq is.... well a lot of people have done him every day for years and not gotten a drop. Fractals are more liberal, some people are overflowing with ascended gear.

I've also gotten quite a few through WvW, although I don't know if that's pure luck or something more substantial.

I mean, there's no harm in trying at least, right?

For the same 15 minute investment, you could be doing something else. Ascended gear drops randomly whenever there's a chance of a random exotic, so it's similarly (un)likely to get an ascended drop fighting trash mobs. It might be that the odds of Tequatl dropping ascended gear are higher, but those odds are so low that they might as well be zero for the purposes of planning.

So if you've got nothing else on your plate, sure, there's no harm in spending time at WBs. But if you have anything else you want to do in game, you're better off doing that and saving up to craft.

Teq is the one to do; it's fast. Get in the right instance, TEA time etc. run every night. TBH you could spend 15 mins doing this, have fun, get tons of things to break down/sell too; ectos are cheaper now but its a nice way for that. ANYWAYS -

ALSO - you have HoT? If you finish the story; you get a quest to remake Caladbolg. You can choose from GS, sword, dagger, scepter, annnnd forget 5 choices. It's not as grindy as seems, vision crystal is the biggest thing you can also get monthly from chest. ANYWAYS - definitely options other than craft but still, it's one of the best ways.

And I still disagree: it hurts by sucking valuable time up, without making a meaningful difference in the chance of getting a random ascended drop. It's simply not possible to play for fully ascended gear by adding any WBs to one's rotation.

If you happen to like WBs, of course you should continue to go after them, especially Tequatl (since the loot is halfway substantial for the 30 minutes required, including waiting for things to start). But if you like or even can tolerate other types of content, well, do those instead.

Ascended boxes of any kind have a chance to drop from anywhere that would usually yield empyreal/bloodstone/dragonite.This includes world bosses, jumping puzzle chests and exotic loot bags.

Fractals t4 is by far the best way to accumulate miscellaneous armour/weapon boxes without crafting. However, their drop rate may be the highest in the game from t4 fractals, but it is still RNG, of what you get, when, and what stats you get.

Crafting is the most effective way of obtaining ascended armour and weapons in the stats you want. You know how long it takes, and what you will get when you’re done.

I've received ascended boxes from Teq, TT wurm, PvP boxes and even inside a random exotic box from Chak gerent. Unfortunately the RNG to get these are insanely low... you'd sooner get frustrated trying to strike it lucky, unless you already enjoy doing these encounters. Fractals and crafting are the primary way I geared up.

Other than Caladbolg, the elite spec and machined weapons collection will give you ascended weapons without crafting.

I would suggest levelling up the crafts... long term it does pay off. And PoF has caused the price of many mats to drop significantly... that'll likely change when the next legendary is released.

OK, hands up who ever had an ascended weapon drop from trash mobs. I'm only playing this game for 7 months now, but I have 18 slayer achievements and ten thousands of trash mob kills. I never had ascended gear drop from any of them. I did however get several weapon and armor chests from Tequatl and Triple Trouble events. Maybe 3 weapons and 3 armor pieces. I'm not doing these events daily. Before you try to educate me in probability and big numbers theories, I'm aware that my specific experience is not statistically significant, that's not my point. That's why I'm asking here if anyone ever got something ascended from trash mobs, because I don't believe this happens at all. For me, spending my time at Tequatl and TT before I had ascended gear was well worth it. I got my first ascended weapon from Tequatl. I crafted my first set of ascended armor because waiting for a lucky drop isn't feasible. It works well since I can do T4 fractals for gearing up alts though.

In my book, it's well worth doing Tequatl and TT for ascended gear, it just shouldn't be the main motivation. I would like to know how often those people from gw2community get ascended drops from TT, they do this two times a day for a long time already. There are also people who do Tequatl every day for more than a year, they would know something about drop rates.

As to how effective crafting is: it is 100% effective. You max your craft, you collect the materials, you craft the weapon you want. There's not random factor here. Is it efficient? Depends on your possibilities. Since I can do T4 fractals, crafting is not an efficient way to get ascended gear for me. Before that, it was the best I could do. There's nothing that says you cannot do crafting and Tequatl/TT events though. The time you spend waiting for the event can be used to farm materials you need anyway. I always farm before Tequatl spawns or before the escort events at TT start. You'll need the platinum and wood the areas provide anyway.

I've gotten two ascended weapons from trash mobs, one from world bosses. My friend has gotten two full sets of ascended from WvW (8 pieces from rank up, two from enemy players). I know people who have done Tequatl hundreds of times without any ascended at all. There are two main points that you seem to keep missing:

  • No one has to go out of their way to kill trash mobs; it simply happens as a part of most anything else we do.
  • Trash mobs aren't an efficient source of ascended gear, but neither are world bosses; the chances are too low to plan your gear around.

So again, if you like spending 15-30 minutes (prepping + event) on various world bosses, of course you should continue to do that. But in the short and long run, you're better off doing stuff you do like and saving up to craft.
