Bjora: Where is Koda Trial "Koda be praised/Plant Banners ..."?

Hi,

where in Bjora Marches is the Trail of Koda challenge for "Plant Banners to Challenge the Svanir" from "Koda Be Praised" from S5E2.

I have tried three svanir-koda-trials

  • in a small cave (the third split-cave of the Drakkar fight) north-east of POI "Deny of Whispers" (it starts usually a few minutes after the drakkar fight)
  • in the cave at POI "Cavern of the Lost sons"
  • near POI "Bear shrine" (in north-east corner of the map)

None of them completed the achievement and I do not see other koda-trials with Svanir in the map.

Thanks a lot for a little help. :)

  • Is this achievement broken? There has been no trials that involve placing banners to challenge the svanir.. If anyone has finished it, could you let me know where in the map you found this particular event?

  • Jayden Reese.9542Jayden Reese.9542 Member ✭✭✭✭

My guess it could be on 1st side cause no one looks there but it could also be rarer idk. I found some of the others in multiple places but am also stuck 4/5

  • I've been all over both sides of the map, the trial doesn't spawn anywhere it seems. I'm convinced at this point that it's bugged.

  • You need Trial of Koda on one of enemy patrols (Sons of Svanir/Fallen/Aberrant enemies) You can check these events on wiki for their spawn location

Still believe to this voice beyond the void

  • Only thing I could think of is the Patrols on the original side of Bjora, I've seen those get the Trial from time to time. Problem is, it just spawned a Champion to kill when the trial was prepared :/

  • Ayrilana.1396Ayrilana.1396 Member ✭✭✭✭

The trial seems to be the patrol on the east side of the map but likely only the Svanir one. I've done the Fallen patrol twice with no progression.

  • You need to complete patrol event trial preparation before the event ends.

Technically the event doesn't end right away if the trial is active. More specifically, I had to do the trial prep first before killing the last mob. I think that's what you were trying to get at.

    Hi,

thanks for all your responses. Here is some more information about it. In short: I think its bugged at the moment

The only Trials of Koda with enemy patrols I saw for hours are in Aberrant Forest (Aberrant Patrol) and in Fallen Mountains (Fallen Patrol) South-east of POI bear shrine.
They both have always the same event chain:
    1. Defeat the patrolling (Fallen/Aberrant): Trial Primer: Finish defeated enemy patrols to release their Unstable Essence
    2. Trial of Koda: Defeat the leader of the enemy Patrol: Call out the enemy leader
    3. Trial of Koda: Defeat the Leader of the Champion Kodan/Fallen Berserker

And sometimes, at the same time, there spawns nearby another champion with a Trial-of-Koda-option (so there are two champions and two Koda-Trails nearby at the same time):
Champion Fallen/Aberrant Kodan Berserker: Trial Primer: Use unstable essence to defeat the Champion.

So, with the same map-logic like the above events, the Svanir-Patrol with the Trial-of-Koda option should spawn somewhere in/near Svanir Plateau. But it never does.

And right now, during my writing, the fallen-Patrol-event-chain in Fallen Montains is bugged: A new fallen-Patrol with the trial-option starts directly 1-2 minutes after the champ was killed and the trial was succesfully finished. Again and again. I stood there and waited and saw it repeating 5 times until I logged out.

I think now, that the "Defeat the patrolling Svanir" event with the trial-option is bugged and actually never spawns.

And directly after I posted this and after I switched the map for the Drakkar-Meta, a trial event marker for "Defeat the patrolling Sons of Svanir" popped up. It was on the road between POI "Ravens Gate" and POI "Gates of Svanir". I killed a lot of patrols on that road, but never before had a patrol the trial-option.

It was at the time of the escort-event-pre of the Drakkar fight, so everyone on the map was doing the Drakkar-meta and because I was alone, there was not enough essence to start the trail, so I do not now know exactly, if that is really the right event. But I am pretty confident.

You have to complete the trial prep before killing the final mob. Even though the event still stays open allowing you to do the trial prep, it won’t count as you’ve seen. I’m not sure if the other trials behaved that way as well.

    Thats what I meant.

The first stage/trial prep is to kill mobs that give essences and then interact with the essences (which fills a trial-event-bar) but do not kill all the mobs before the trial-event-bar is full (the preparation is complete). After the preparation is done, the mobs can be killed and then the next stage of the trial starts and you have to interact with a horn that is laying on the ground nearby to call the champ. And after that it is easy, you only have to kill the Champion that spawns.

This was the event chain I have seen with the Aberant and Fallen patrol events, and the Svanir started the same. But when I was soloing the event, there were not enough mobs to kill that give essences, so the bar could not fully filled for completing the trial-preparation. Maybe because I was solo there (re-)spawned not enough mobs.

I checked this now two-times with a character that waites there . The event only starts around every two hours during the escort event of the Drakkar-map-meta and because everyone os doing the Drakkar-meta, no one else is there for the patrol-event.

So, if someone is on EU-Servers and wants do to the event in around 40-50 minutes, please join me, I am already waiting ingame for the event. ^^

P.S. It is not exactely every 120 minutes, it was with a few minutes offset. So, there will probably be days, when the event does not spawn during drakkar-meta.

There were enough for me when I did it solo. It only took 4-5.

Also, as an FYI, you get achievement progression upon completing that trial prep event. Interacting with the object to call the champ, or even defeating the champ, isn’t required. That’s the same for all of the others for those that happen to come across this thread.

So, we were a handful of players, the patrol respawned as planned (around 130 minutes after the last), we did the preparation properly, then the trial started and then we killed the trial-champ and the trial-event succeded - but it didn't count for the achievement.

And some player in map-chat wrote, that he got the achievement from the Aberrant Patrol in the Aberrant Forrest.

Now I really believe, that this is buggy.

Properly as you did the trial prep BEFORE the final patrol mob was killed?

The fact that the achieve seems to trigger of killing mobs to release essence but don't kill all the mobs because if you do before enough essences are released you don't get achieve is bad. Should be triggered off summon at the horn blow or killing champ cause that's not just intuitive unless you there solo the odds are someone comes finishes them off

True that it’s not intuitive as I remember doing many of the trials without getting progression before figuring out that I had to do the event that triggers the trial.

Thanks, that was very helpful info.

I went to Aberrant Forrest (because, I think the patrols respawn there faster) and did it solo a few times (changed maps for this, so I have not to wait too long). I lured one mob away, killed only this mob, waited until I lost aggro from the others (or they attack and interrupt my channeling), channeled the item from the mob and repeated this with the next mob of the patrol until the prep-progress-bar was full. I did not care to call or fight the champ.

I repeated this same procedure exactly the same way 3 times (on 3 maps) until finally my achievement was progressed (and finally finished).

Yeah I get it it's just very easy to screw this one up esp as like reaper or other aoe stong classes or if 20 players are there. I got it and just left not even bothering with the champ

It’s doable with a large group if you have people dedicated to channeling the dropped items. The mobs are scaled up enough where you should have enough time before they all are killed but of course communication beforehand to everyone doesn’t hurt either.

I don’t see why they couldn’t include a better tooltip explaining the achievement. It’s not like there’s a lack of space.

I agree. The achievement should be triggered with the same playstyle that triggers the next step in the koda-trial (the spawn of the horn-item).

I think the actual trigger-mechanism (and that it sometimes not triggers, even if the player is doing everything identical) is not intentional and that a dev has unintentionally used some wrong trigger-conditions for the achievement.

The problem with that is only one person can interact with the horn.

All of the other trials give credit by doing the event that contains the trial prep. Changing it to give credit with initiating, or beating, the trial would deviate from that.

What Anet could do is give credit if the event is still live for the trial instead of needing to do the trial step first before finishing the objective for the event itself. I’m not sure if it’s already that way for the others and this one is just different.

No, I did not mean that interacting with the horn should trigger the achievement. Successful finishing the trial-prep should not only spawn the horn but also progress the achievement for all that participated in the prep.

Isnt it inconsistent, that the "bonus-event" (the trial with horn and then champ) spawns, even if the trial-prep is finished only after the patrol is already dead, but the achievement does not progress in this case?

I think the actual trigger-mechanism (and that it sometimes not triggers, even if the player is doing everything identical) is not intentional and that a dev has unintentionally used some wrong trigger-conditions for the achievement.

I did not noticed that. Would also be OK. That would mean: If all patrol mobs are dead -> event succeded -> achievment progresses.

    Hello,

i wanted to share my experience about the part of an achievement "Planting Banner...". I've been searching around for more than 14 hours and nothing happened. After some discussion in the map chat and checking some guides from Reddit. I know three locations in East Bjora Marches. The first main problem is... the patrols are very rare to spawn with the Koda Trial special event.
The another problem was the essences from the mob corpses. They're disappearing too quick for not finishing the trial preparation. Even with some preparation with the essences i finished it. Event disappeared fully for no reason.

So, it was hard for most of the players that wanted to finish the part "Planting Banners..." in Koda Be Praised.

    EDIT:
After finishing the trial preparation of any of the patrols in East Bjora Marches. The event completely disappeared after killing the remaining mobs. Annoying.

    EDIT 2:
I finally got the "Planting Banners..." finished after many tries. Still bugged.

ANet doesn't play their own game. If you don't believe me, watch some of the streams where the devs are playing the game. Some of them give PUGs a good name.

Just because you help design a game, doesn’t mean that you’re a pro at playing it. Especially in content that you had little or no role in creating.

The one patrol that does spawn enough foes is slightly to the north of the east Bjora waypoint. Bring a friend since the stomp is so kitten long unless you have invul skills you have a big chance of getting downed.

  • I think anet just needs to get rid of the getting the essences done before the event ends thing. It's needlessly confusing and frustrating. After trying to get this done all day between separate maps and failing because one - no more spawn and you don't get enough essences, two - dealing with the constant interrupts and knockdowns, and three - it only takes one "helpful" or troll person to kill that last mob to ruin the whole achievement. All the other Koda events are challenging in their own right, and are fine. Its just THIS ONE that is obtuse and frustrating. There's nothing saying that the essences have to be done before the event, and even the title isn't even relevant to what you need to be doing, so how is one supposed to figure out what's happening? Just my two cents. :)

  • I'd like to add that I finally got the Banners by Bear Shrine, there were in fact no banners involved and the patrol was actually Fallen. I had two other folks around so it was just enough for the essences. After that we killed a Champ if I remember, happened too fast :pensive: and I got the achievement.

  • I'm wondering now what kodan event now they're expecting you to do for this achievement. All this time I was trying for the Svanir one, that one near the entrance to that after meta area with that group of champs. o_O

  • Okay so yesterday i finally got this achievement (i tried 8 times overall). You need to kill a mob then stomp on it (like a finisher in pvp) and that will fill your progress bar, when the progress bar is full then you can activate trial and kill the champ, however i did this 8 times i only got the achievement on 8th try, so good luck!

There are three spawn spots for that trial, [&BB4MAAA=] [&BCgMAAA=] and [&BDQMAAA=] , you will see the golden icon at one of the three locations when event for that trial spawn, you go there and you kill event mobs that have crossed sword icons above them, what i did is kill 1 by 1 and stomp on them to fill the bar. Few times however there were not enough mobs to fill the progress bar and i could not finish the event to activate the trial and the trial icon was gone after event was over.

I have killed "patrols" (event targets marked with crossed swords) at those 3x locations more times than I can count, including just moments before writing this. I have never been offered any sort of "stomp" action (and as far as I can tell, there is no "/stomp" emote). I have never seen any sort of "progress bar". I have never seen a triangular golden "Koda Trial" icon associated with any of these locations or events. None of this makes any sense.

So, can you explain exactly what (in terms of specific sequence of operations) you mean by "stomp"? How do you tell whether "stomp" is available (i.e. what appears on the user interface)? What key sequence do you employ to execute a stomp (just a simple "interaction"/F-key)? Do you need a target in order to "stomp", or is proximity sufficient? Where does this progress bar appear on the overall user interface? At what point in the process does this "patrol" event turn into a "Koda Trial"? Is this mainly an issue of waiting until you see a "Koda Trial" icon on the map, before any of this is possible (suggesting that some of these patrol events spawn as just a "plain" event, which is what I assume I have always seen, and some of these events spawn as a "Koda Trial", which I have not yet seen)? Are there any prerequisites for this event to appear as a "Koda Trial" (I have completed 4 of the 5 achievements that comprise "Koda Be Praised"... what about other achievements? For instance, do I need to complete the Bjora Marches story first?)?

Read the thread not the last 5 entrys. The patrol needs the lil maker and say prep or w/e it says not just any basic patrol and you release esseses that drop to fill bar before killing all mobs you have to fill the entire bar to get credit. There's more info up there you can sift thru

  • I got credit for this achievement yesterday. No bar to fill, but just stomped one foe that was laying there. Was surprised to see I had the achievement, after reading this and other threads on the issue.

  • This is how koda trial icon looks like

So in order to complete the achievement you need to actually see the icon on the three spawning locations, killing random patrols wont do you any good unless the trial is there.

Not very helpful, I am afraid (though it makes somewhat more sense after participating in the event), but thanks for responding anyway.

Anyway, this finally happened to me, in a rocky defile just a few paces south/east of [&BDQMAAA=] (in Bjora Marches East). Interestingly it happened serially, several times in rapid succession, not during the Drakkar event in Bjora Marches West, and then finally once during the Drakkar event. After several occurrences, it stopped happening. I have no idea if it coincides with any other events elsewhere in Bjora Marches, with or without a delay. I would have no idea how to predict it.

I was at 30 charges of Resilience 3 when I did all this.

The patrol spawns as a "Koda Trial" event, triangular golden icon, etc. A "normal" patrol is not relevant. So, it does appear you do have to wait for the "Koda Trial". The "Koda Trial" patrol spawns (comprised of various Fallen in this part of the map), as an event, not unlike the "normal" patrol event. There is a progress bar integrated into the display for the event (which appears as a normal event display, on the right side of the screen). When patrol mobs die, they drop an "essence", as an object on the ground, marked in the game world and on the map with a little "hand" icon. Interacting with these (F-key interaction, and you must basically be standing on them, even a short distance away is not sufficient) incrementally fills the progress bar on the event display. Nothing appears in your inventory as a consequence. These "essences" despawn quickly, so use them or lose them. During interaction with an essence, an expanding circular targeting grid appears on the ground, suggesting "danger". Indeed, completion of interaction with each essence does appear to do some damage to you (i.e. the player character). Have a self-heal ready. Filling the progress bar constitutes completion of the "trial primer" or "preparation" for the trial (for me, it required interaction with about 5 essences, total). At this point a golden triangle "Koda Trial" object appears on a flat rock adjacent to the rocky defile mentioned above, and is marked on the map. Interacting with this object summons a "Champion Koda Berserker", with a time limit. This is presumably the "leader of the enemy patrol". This guy is fairly nasty, and engages in some sort of "retaliation" mechanic that is fairly dangerous. Be prepared to resurrect fellow players on a regular basis (hopefully others will do the same for you). Killing this champion concludes the "Koda Trial" event.

I participated in "trial preparation" and killing the champion half a dozen times. I received credit for the "Daily Trial of Koda" achievement, but I did not receive credit toward the "Plant Banners to Challenge the Svanir" sub-achievement of "Koda be Praised". Perhaps this is due to bugs, as various contributors to this thread have speculated.

Finally, there appears to be a wiki page for "Koda be Praised": "https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Koda_Be_Praised". The section on "Plant Banners to Challenge the Svanir" is a bit sketchy, but will probably improve as time passes.

So that is a summary of the mechanics/play experience for the event people have been describing in this forum thread. All of this closely resembles the mechanics of other "Koda Trial" events.

HOWEVER, I remain unclear as to how the event being described in this forum thread has anything to do with "Plant[ing] Banners to Challenge the Svanir" (the patrol I fought was Fallen, the champ I fought was Koda, and nothing to do with this event involved a "planting banners" mechanic... all comes across as a but of a non-sequitur). This leaves me second guessing as to whether we are discussing the correct event (through this seems to be the last remaining "Koda Trial", so is probably the correct event, and a bug of some sort seems likely). I still have no practical idea how to complete the "Koda be Praised" achievement (I remain stuck on 4/5). I am going to try to catch this particular "Koda Trial" event in the other two parts of the map ([&BB4MAAA=] and [&BCgMAAA=], which will be comprised of Aberrant and Svanir), and see if that does the trick. Other posters have suggested repetition has been a viable workaround for the suspected bug, so maybe that is the trick.

I will update if I actually succeed in getting anywhere with "Koda be Praised"/"Plant Banners to Challenge the Svanir".

Second guessing myself again. No-one has explained the precise mechanics of this "stomp" operation. This poster also doesn't indicate where this was done. I suspect we are all talking about the same thing, there is just a bug that results in (very) intermittent success.

I want the blasted mastery point from "Koda Be Praised"... otherwise I would just blow this off, like I blow off everything else that involves unnecessary/senseless makework (such as redoing something ad infinitum hoping to work around a bug).

When the patrol dies their bodies will have a "press F" popup and upon pressing "F" it stomps on their corpse. -IF- its the Trial version, which has that weird little golden triangle.

It is something like this, you kill one of the mobs from the patrol, it drops what looks like an essence. When you stand on it you get the option to stomp, or whatever you want to call it. Do this enough and the bar is filled and you get the achievement. Best done with a very small group. Solo it's annoying to get since the stomp takes forever when there is multiple foes hacking into you.

You over complicate things. If you defeat all the mobs before filling the bar by killing mobs and hitting f to release the essences it don't count. If you slowly kill mobs and leave some alive until u fill the bar you will get credit. The horn/champ is extra the achieve procs on filling that pre trial prep before killing/completing that event. Some complain there aren't enough mobs sometimes and sometimes some1 else shows up and kills the last mobs thinking hes helping. They say stomp because releasing the essence looks like you stomped a dude in pvp but is a basic F interaction like every other interaction

  • @aspirine.6852 said:> ...you get the option to stomp, or whatever you want to call it...

Yeah, that's the trick. I actually did not look at the text in the F-key prompt that pops up (i.e. when you are adjacent to anything with which you can interact). Maybe it does actually say "stomp". If memory serves, all the items on the ground dropped in the course of all the "Koda Trials" are indeed labelled "essence(s)", and the documentation emerging on the Wiki certainly refers to these things as essence(s). Anyway, I would have been a lot less confused if people had said "interact with the essence(s) dropped by the mob(s), using the F-key", instead of "stomp".

I am a software engineer in real life, I have trained myself to use descriptive phrases, rather than euphemisms (at least until a clear domain vocabulary develops between myself and the customer), and the rigor of that approach probably affects my own thinking. I read/hear something like "stomp", and my response invariably is "EXACTLY, step by step, please describe what you mean by 'stomp'. Ahh, OK, so that is 'stomp'. Be advised, if the meaning of 'stomp' changes at some point, we will need to have this discussion again." The alternative is, unfortunately, a lot of tail chasing (which is a great way to waste time and effort).

  • I think many players use the term 'Stomp' for the Interact [F] 'Finish Them'. Because the animation is akin to stomping on something.

Make perfect sense. I am missing some "domain specific vocabulary". Would not be the first time. Thanks.

  • This is clearly a bug, in that the koda bonus event spawns but you don't get credit for having done it. The other events don't have the same problem because it's much easier to finish the primer bonus condition before the main event. I have not confirmed if the other trial primers fail to count, and can no longer do so since I have completed them all.

Hopefully this gets fixed eventually :)

  • Finally... completed "Plant Banners to Challenge the Svanir", on both my accounts in rapid succession. The patrol events documented on the wiki are indeed the relevant events.

I did this at [&BCgMAAA=]. Solo, it is a little easier at this location: fewer ambient mobs hanging around to get pulled in, easier to string the event-specific target mobs out and kill them one or two at a time in a controlled fashion, to insure you "stomp" essences and fill the "trial preparation" progress bar before ending the event.

Two successive trial event spawns, both "worked", no bug(s) were evident. Perhaps they have fixed the bug (server-side patch of some sort?), perhaps I just got lucky.

    Hope all this helps others.
