What if... this was some code bug that happened due to laying the groundwork for a new ranger specialization where the ranger takes damage their pet takes? They were clever enough to not make it interact with our pet, but forgot about it affecting other ranger summons.

That sounds awful so I'm sure that's what the next specialization does.
