I'm a not so new player, but new to WvW. I tried yesterday for an hour and simply could not keep up with all the mounts to cap a thing. 1 hour = zero pips. Are there any guilds or groups that are doing WvW for those of us who don't have a warclaw yet? I know I can Git gud and all that, but it is none the less disheartening to always be late to the party. I'm sure others in this situation feel the same way.

Not really that i've seen (EU). Most Commanders/group did tend to not use the Mount when it was first released so people could keep up etc... But since it's been out for so long, it's easier/quicker to just Mount up and roll out to Isengard.
Only real advice is play something with high mobility (Thief works, Shortbow) or work on getting your Mount ASAP.
Minus playing an extremely high mobility class, there are ways to get going in this:

Also: to get the keep capture, weekly reset can be quite productive for that.

This is really helpful, thanks!
How so? Can you elaborate?
You could also give a shout in map chat to see if you could team up with a havoc group while you are getting what you need as well.

Team up and roam with one or two other of the mount-less sounds like the plan. ty
There is much higher compacted activity in the first two to three hours after the weekly reset in WvW. Keeps tend to flip frequently, especially ones closest to spawns. They are not upgraded yet, so they tend to flip quickly. Also, if you have a harder time catching up to the tag, if they are going to the keep closest to your spawn, you SHOULD be able to catch them in the Lords room to get credit for the cap.
Another way to get cap credit for keeps and towers is to kill guards.
Often as I am running by a tower or keep, I’ll kill an enemy guard. If that structure flips while I am on the map, I get credit for the flip. (It also ‘taps’ the structure which may bring a scout to check it too...)

Often, the small groups may also wait up for you even if they have mounts.
There are very vocal trolls in WvW. But the majority of players are quietly helpful.

This is like opening up a book and being bothered that you don't know the ending when others have read it. Just take the time to read the book or in this case get the mount, it isn't really hard if you like WvW.
Let's nerf everything, so that we don't need any skill to play.
The Truth sometimes hurts but it is good for you.
Everything Strider stated is pretty spot on. A big thing for me that helped being late to the party as well with the Warclaw is hopping on discord with the zerg and learning where the next plan of attack was going to be. Once I knew of the location I would quickly use a WP (if possible) and then travel on foot to the outer perimeter of where everyone is meeting. (Most servers have a discord or a teamspeak for WvW, not sure if your server does, maybe you can look them up?)
It can get chaotic and difficult on foot, but it's possible. Just takes a lot of pre-planning and anticipating/listening in on what the Commander is doing.
I don't have the math in front of me, but if you can keep up perm swiftness (ranger, revenant), your movement speed is only slightly (?) slower than a warclaw's while in enemy territory.
And while I can't say for certain on your server, I know several pugmanders on my server who will dismount to help those who don't have a mount keep up, or at least will wait longer for the tail to catchup.
Can't help but notice that in the Lab Cliffs for this festival, we can now rent a SPRINGER, and a SKIMMER on top of already being able to rent Raptors and Beetles in other festivals. Can we rent a Griffon too?
So, why again can't we have a Warclaw rental NPC??? I'm sure the coding for such an NPC would be close to an easy copy/paste, right?
I respect your opinion, but I would argue it's more like opening a book with a bunch of classmates only to find the text is in a foreign language and everyone but you can read it. And then you're handed a quiz. I would also argue that the fact that I am here asking questions indicates a desire to learn to read that language, wouldn't you agree?
Well said. As I noted in my last post... 😉
Thank You for the {MEME}
make friends with wvw players, they will understand.
Not Even Coverage is the Only broken thing in WVW.
something with high mobility like SB daredevil, and some speed runes, can keep up with a mounted zerg pretty well, at least to cap the structures needed. Then play what you want after getting the mount.
Don't forget: Do the WvW-dailies, these up to 6 bottles of https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Potion_of_WvW_Rewards per day speed up the WvW Reward Track progress quite well. 8 days of not much more WvW than dailies already complete a reward track.
How do you get zero pips in an hour...
Just kill some guards rofl.

The solutions are in @Strider Pj.2193's post.
Go out and earn it.

dunno, i'm playing Power scourge with Trail & dagger/torch, usually just swap torch for WH to have 2 speedboosts and 90% of the time I can keep up because of being in teamspeak with the zerg. actively listening and pre-running a bit works pretty well, however I find myself being behind a good amount of times aswell... luckily it's pretty easy to get the mount, afterall it's just another reward path. gonna be done with that today thankfully...
Or kill guards at the keeps and wait for the zerg to cap it, you will get credits for it. (as long you don't maphop/disconnect)
Don't argue with idiots, they drag you down to their level and own you with experience.
Big Babou, Ranger for life.
We're long overdue for the Warclaw to be a rental in WvW for those who can't or haven't gotten it yet. What a missed opportunity for Anet to both improve play and promote the mount (might get someone to buck up for POF).
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mount_Rental
That list got longer and more extensive. Went from just being able to rent the beetle to pretty much every PvE mount but the Skyclaw.
The tech exists. Only ANET knows why it hasn't been implemented in WvW.
And y'know, before someone decides to point out that outside the bettle mount, the other rentals happen during festivals - fine. In that case, next time we have a No Downed Core Golem Bloodlust event, they add these vendors so new players can get a leg up on grabbing the warclaw.
But it shouldn't have to come to that. Players can participate in the beetle races around Tyria without having to spend the time in getting the Beetle mount, why not enable WvW'ers the same way by giving them access to a non-mastery rental mount.
/boggle
A squad commander can also provide participation, just whisper him/her to let them know you will be running everywhere.
So for an hour you chased after a mounted group? Shouldnt you have realised it alot sooner than that? I know i did and i went and did other things for a few hours and managed to get warclaw without ever joining a zerg group.
I know. It was embarrassing and frustrating at the same time. But ya gotta start somewhere right?
UPDATE: All the suggestions were terrific. My second foray into WvW was far different than my first. T6 Participation, lots of pips, caps, chests and reward track.
Thanks again to everyone
Ty for letting us know. You are bigger than 99% of WvWers with this post alone.

That is really good news.
I hope after getting the mount, you find the mode fun enough to continue to play again after you acquire it.

Because any other WvWer would have just dismissed everything everyone else said and continued to complain.

I think 99% is a tad high lol
I see some people actually take advice given (including myself), however I do understand where you are getting at

It is hard when ur new and dont know what to do but there are some good suggestions here.
I remember when I started playing GW2... doing some stuff with guildies they ported somewhere and I only had a few copper, what a noob. I hadnt even figured out how to get gold yet and had to ask one of them to pay for me to teleport, which was like 1k.... lol how embarassing.
One option is to offer scouting services. It might depend on the server but many servers will accpet scouts. All you need to do is set up some siege and report an enemies when they pay a visit. The commander can give you ... not sure what the English term is ... participation? So you'll get track advancement even while running around in a castle, setting up and tapping siege and looking out for enemies.
Perhaps call out on Team Chat to other mountless players, start a old-school footrace party and work together on getting your mounts asap. Don't forget your guild enhancement, your boosters, and if you have it your enrichment infusion for extra WvW Reward track points per tick. Exp Booster, Celeb/Birthday booster, Black Lion Booster, all stack and you get the track done quickly.
2nd Update: Yes Virginia that is a Warclaw on my lawn! As some have said, in the end, it wasn't too hard at all to get the Warclaw. Perhaps the biggest stumbling block was flipping the keep. But eventually, even that happens a bunch of times. In fact, I am having so much fun in WvW, I'm going to stop typing and get on my mount, Woody.
Thanks for all the help folks!
Good to hear, and I am glad you are enjoying WvW. Now all it will take is 22 weeks to get your legendary armor!! (Well not quite but...)
Thank You for the {MEME}
For anyone that still needs warclaw, when it was new my server's commanders gave scout participation to people that were there just to get warclaw and never intended to stay in WvW. It was mutually beneficial as people that were there without a clue to WvW (entitlement : "when are we flipping a keep? I need it for warclaw") would get out of WvW quicker and you can just park the generally noncontributing player in a keep/tower as a scout.
Of course some people actually stayed in WvW with the intent of getting better and you get fresh blood that way.
I read the OP's problem. I read the advises. Some of them are quoted. I find this amazing - the community is doing more to bring new players into WvW (and to help them) even than ANet! If even a small team of ANet developers (2 or 3) will ever reach this level of love and understanding for the WvW problems, then, I think this mode will became the true star of this game.
Hat off for you, guys! All my respect.
Few more tips for this: everything else went quite smoothly but keep achievement. I used bird-soulbeast to keep up with mounted party.
While waiting weekly reset:
EDIT: Yes, I waited keep flipping quite some time. It seems happen quite seldomly in EBG once the situation is stabilized, because enemy reinforcements are so near. It is rare that zergs go to enemy borderlands for keep, so you need to follow a tag for long time before that happens. Meanwhile, trying to camp in enemy borderlands waiting friendly zerg to come for keep is very boring, and you really can't see if keep is attacked at some other region (so you can just shrug shoulders when eventually one keep flips on enemy borderlands, it is just too late). So, after reset, keep your eye on your homeland keeps and if it flips, go waiting a zerg to take it back.
EDIT: BTW, I wouldn't mind if Stonemist Castle would also work as keep achievement, just because it tends to change owner much more frequently than keeps.
And, if you can find maybe one or two people to help, the keeps in EOTM count as well
Thank You for the {MEME}
Glad to hear a happy ending for your quest. Now mastery out that cat of yours!🤗
I just wish they would make the reward track shorter. I pretty much only ever WvW when I need a Gift of Battle, and while it was a pretty big pain to have to WvW before, now I can't ever even reach the action so I'm going to have to grind out another reward track just to be able to do my GoB reward track. It's... frustrating to say the least.
Because noone buys skins or expansions for rented warclaws. They want WvW to be profitable and tbh we want that too. If it is they might want to put more interest in to the game mode. Allthough all those money they get through server swaps should be enough but it does not seem to be the case.
Probably just as frustrating or probably even less then it is for a wvw player who never player PvE having to do worldcompletion in PvE
Just going to 2nd this. Came back to playing wvw after I dunno how long. The existence of mounts singlehandedly ruined the wvw experience for me
I can't play my core and HoT only accounts anymore, and I kinda don't want to work to get the mount on my main one anyway either. Oh well
how are you communicating with the com that you don't have mount? i don't know who among my team has it, but if they tell me they don't, i adjust and use run instead of mount.
Not Even Coverage is the Only broken thing in WVW.
Mounts are a strategic advantage for your server in wvw because of the mobility they provide. To sacrifice this for a few people who don't have mounts is not a good thing to do if you're serious about winning on any level at all. Personally, I don't want my server to do this for me even if it means I can't run with the zerg. Just my take on this.
Let's just blame Anet instead
(jk)
well when ur winning in a very wide margin we can afford to rp walk
long term wise its better if everyone is geared well.
besides its so easy to have just 2 hours wvw
we talk about anet in coms.
Not Even Coverage is the Only broken thing in WVW.
Which of course doesnt make any sense whatsoever since the reward track has absolutely nothing to do with action. Reward track is passive gain by simple spending time in WvW, while doing at least the minimum to maintain participation. Which can be something as simple as killing a guard at a keep.
Also the high mobility classes can keep up with a mounted zerg well enough, especially if you try to move a little ahead of it instead of blindly following the tag like a duckling.
