How Verdant Brink meta should be reworked to make people do the events?

Noone does the events in VB, because we don't need to defend camps. Most people are coming to VB only for Wyvern Matriarch and Amalgamated Gemstone. All you have to do is get on the platform with your griffon and just wait for boss. Not everybody can get there, because there are people that don't have griffons. Primary rally point is often fallen, so sometimes VB meta seems to be only for people with mounts.
I think reward should be granted after killing all bosses or reaching participation threshold or after the night. Same in AB. You don't have to participate in meta event. You can come after the event and just loot all chests. Maybe reward chest in AB should be granted for killing an octovine?

Rewards from TD and DS requires completing the events. Why not in AB and VB?
In PoF maps: Junundu can be looted without participation.
Forged With Fire and Serpent's Ire needs to be completed.
Maw require defeating the Legendary Demolisher.
Piniata: You have to destroy the piniata.
Doppelganger: Boss needs to be defeated.

    I do wish more people would play VB, but I still see people running it from time to time. I kinda miss the participation system requiring you to...actually participate to get the rewards but people seemed to hate it. Maybe if they made T4 night easier to achieve and only made the event successful (rewarding the daily choice chest) if you got to T4 would help. Would make it a little more like Octovine and Gerent, which people still do.

    aside choppers, theres a "shortcut" by south high areas near eletric dragons nest, u can get there using mushroons.

  • Solution may be as easy as tying the Hero's Choice to Tier 3 (Tier 4 is too hard, Tier 2 might be more reasonable but should be doable with 3 bosses no camps so might be too easy).

    Won't solve the issue. People can get to Matriarch platform with glider easy enough. A lot of people just camp a mule there, too.

    And if that proves too annoying, people will instead do the same thing with Tetrad, which is even easier to get to (you only need bouncing mushroom and basic gliding).

    Also from the Melandru airship waypoint too, you can use updrafts to get high up and glide over. As long as you have advanced gliding, you can make it. Takes a bit of time, but it's easy enough.

    I mean, I personally don't have a problem with that. It's not like you don't get other rewards for participating on the map. But if time is really that big of an issue, I don't see why they can't make Night Bosses spawn sooner. Make it so T4 is achievable with all night boss deaths and some camp defenses/escorts before they spawn. Then it's pretty close to Gerent with how the chest spawns before that wall opens. Would just be nice if it required more than just "wack Mat for gem"

    Currently a perfect VB t4 is structured like this:
    Start, defence 1 happens, takes 4 mins-ish. Next defence will happen at 34:30 on timer for all camps which are taken by the pact at that point; for camps which aren't, they will need to instantly defend if taken during the next defence period. Defence 2, and then final defence happens at 24:30 on timer for taken camps. Roughly, each defence lasts 4 mins and each supply phase 6 mins. Bosses then come down around 20~ mins on timer, and once all 5 are dead you have to wait (over 10 mins usually) until daytime for t4 reward. *For camps which were NOT controlled by the pact during the proper defence phase, there are additional defence phases past night boss time. A perfect t4 will almost never see them.

    Night time lasts 45 mins, this is the global timer for all maps. After roughly 25 minutes into night the night bosses will spawn reguardless of defense teir and drop the choice chest on death.

    With that in mind:
    -Making t4 easier to achieve would make the rest of the night meta so boring and nothing to do. It already is boring and nothing to do for about 15 mins for a coordinated t4. Since night is a global timer, this cannot be changed- unless day events were to start early, or -additional- night time events were added.
    -That said, i would personally love it if t4 gave rewards to everyone the instant the map hits t4 instead of when daytime comes- this means that for a coordinated map, you're going to hit t4 and get it's rewards at that 25-30 minute mark, instead of needng to wait the extra 20 mins for daytime.
    -If say, the night bosses happened after 15 minutes (after the second defense phase) we'd actually be waiting a whopping /35/ mins for daytime with nothing to do, especially if t4 requirement was lowered to only needing night bosses.

    Increasing effort for same reward has literally never gone over well in guild wars history. If you want people to put in more effort to get rewards you'll also need to increase rewards. Sadly the standard for acquiring gemstones has been set at auto attack the boss a few times at 5 percent or just loot the chest after other people finish the meta. Not to mention elongating the meta also ruins peoples 1 hour for 6 gemstone routine in hot and pof.

    I'm aware it's tied to the day-night cycle, which is fixed. I guess I was trying to suggest that the whole thing be more focused around the night bosses instead of requiring a ton of defense stages before the choppers come down, as the complaint I was replying to mentioned the whole thing took 45 minutes. And in this suggestion I'd say that if you get T4, you should get the T4 reward right then, regardless of how much time is left until daytime. I get that the map is supposed to be themed around defending your little outpost through the night...but it seems most people don't really enjoy playing that apparently...? That would essentially make daytime just...the time limit you have to beat all the bosses for the reward, and if you finish it sooner...cool. Leaves time to go loot airship cargo if you want, or you can hop out. And I'm not opposed to them adding new events for after T4 if there's still night time left, didn't they add extra events to AB during the challenges phase a while back?
    Unless people are fine with the way it currently is and would just prefer having the T4 reward granted immediately upon hitting T4, I'd be fine with that too, though I get the feeling that alone won't make promote people to shoot for T4. I'd personally like to see more than just "auto attack Mat for reward" as the norm but eh.

    I think part of the issue is just how spread out it all is, so even a moderately large sized group can feel small with how many places there are to defend, and it's not as straight forward about what you should actually be doing than the rest of HoT's metas.

    Most of the players with alts parked at Matriarch won’t even bother with VB if it is changed. the result will be the same as it is now for tier completion. Some guilds used to run this in the morning (us central time). I’d say try lfg then if possible. If not possible, move an alt there and park it like many of us have for the amalgamated.

  • The best way I can think of is to require a t2 or t3 and reward the amalgamated gemstone upon completion. The only problem is, this is more likely to get people to stop doing VB altogether than it is to encourage participation.

    ....Are we deliberately ignoring mesmer portals and teleport to friends to make this a mount gripe? My issue has always been with how the waypoints are a pain in Verdant Brink. I can get to the paths if people need more on one or the other just fine in Auric Basin because they don't go under 'contested' the way Verdant Brink's does. So go help out noble means I get sent to somewhere else if it's contested and by the time I get there even with a mount, the rally point has either fallen or they no longer need help.
    And to be honest, there isn't a point in trying for tier 4 if you already got the bladed armor box. If they changed it to getting an amalgamated gemstone as well for reaching it, you can see people definitely doing it, especially if they changed it to a Hero's Choice Chest. I can attest to this since it used to be pain trying to do Choya Pinata until they changed to the Hero's Choice Chests in May of this year. Now most the Casino events tend to succeed whenever I'm on.

    Don't tell me that introduction od mounts didn't make people less focused. Game sped up do badly that even a single event taking too long makes other quit.

    And just like others said - the existence od mounts makes people without PoF at a disadvantage. A real one.

    This doesn't make any sense. The design of the map itself discourages participation in VB's meta. Mounts & Gliders have very little if anything to do with this.

    If there's a problem, it's simply that the game has too many competing metas, so some are inevitably going to fall off in popularity. I'm not sure why they didn't really seem to think about this years ago. The truth is VB should have never even really been a meta map. It should have been an exploration map alongside TD. Even though it's kind of a fun idea for a meta, it would make a lot more sense for them to just remove it than it would for them to mount-restrict the entire game outside of PoF, which a.) would really kitten everyone off, and b.) wouldn't make much logical sense and would do nothing to address what you're complaining about.

  • The problem with VB is that it takes 45 minutes, it's not overly fun, and it's wildly unrewarding to take to T4. By comparison, AB and TD are finished in 5-10 mins (in TD you need to wait the actual 15 for endchest tho).

    Reducing the timer might not be possible in VB. So what to do? Increase the t4 rewards, ofc, so they are comparable to the 45 minutes you have to spend there! Make it 5 amalgamated gems for getting t4 at 200% participation and people will come. Or add other rewards, solid cash, or random ascended materials (deldrimor, elonian leather etc), or mystic coins, or mystic clovers and the list can go on and on and on.

    Make it worthwhile, otherwise I will not go back to repeat the same content for the 100th time. It's fun for a while but it gets old fast. Every half year or so I feel the need to go back and actually replay it for old times sake, but that's only once and then i am good for another 6 months. :)))

    Which is exactly what Anet wants, to motivate people to get Path of Fire. Just like Gliders proved a potent incentive to get HoT once gliders were allowed in core maps. Plus highening interest in mount and glider skins. So no, mounts and gliders in core is comming to stay. The same reason exists for wvw. I knew it was only a question of time before wvw would get a mount too when gliders made their entrance.

  • The only VB meta achieve i have left is the double boss one high in the sky and nobody ever does them, even in a meta map with several commanders it gets completely ignored, even if asked in map chat to ask help with it, like tops i ever gotten is like 2 other players who also need that achieve, but we never manage it.

    Even being part of some big active guilds, they always just fractal/raid or dungeons instead of coming to help meta achieves and such.

    The approach that lets players drop in at the last minute for their gem is a problem. The base is too entitled now to fix that.

    100 % participation and matriarch kill for the 1st gem and 200 % participation at end of timer for the 2nd gem. If you miss the first gem you can get it at end of timer with 100%.

    Noble's doesn't get contested and in fact most of the WPs do not get contested. Shrouded Ruins and Mellagan's are the only ones that can get contested.
