Question about a mount.

Recommended Posts

So i just finished PoF story (was really nice) and i would like to ask about flying mounts. Now my question is can i unlock Skyscale by just buying Living World Season 4 episode 6 - War Eternal, or will i need to buy all episodes in order to complete it?Also i would like to know if Skyscale is easier to unlock than Griffin?

You need the full 4th season to unlock skyscale.Time wise griffon is easier imo but gold wise not.

I agree that the griffon is definitely easier to unlock. There are more unavoidable gold costs but it only requires PoF (no living world episodes or other purchases), there are no time gated sections and I think fewer steps in the process overall. If you were going to get just one of them I'd definitely recommend the griffon over the skyscale.

(Although for the sake of full disclosure if I was going to get just one of them it would absolutely be the skyscale, but that's purely because I love dragons and couldn't pass up a dragon mount for any reason.)

Edit: Also if gold is an issue Halloween and Wintersday both offer good oppertunities to make gold quickly by farming and selling Trick-or-Treat Bags and Wintersday Gifts. Although do factor in how that will affect other things you want to do - for example if there's festival items you want then prioritise that over farming gold.

As others have said, you will need the full season 4 unlocked to get the skyscale, and it's because you need access to all the maps of season 4 to complete the collections. If you don't already have the episodes unlocked, the griffon will definitely be cheaper for you. And it's the faster collection, too, although the skyscale takes 3 days only if you are dedicated.

I don't see Griffon or Skyscale as easier than the other, And here is why:

For the Skyscale, you need to start (not even finish) the last story in Living World Season 4. You need to own all the maps, but just starting War Eternal and getting into Dragonfall is enough storyline-wise

The collection is lengthy, in my oppinion lengthies and harder than the Griffon. (although the time gating has been drastically reduced since I did it)

However for the Griffon you need to finish Path of fire... All 13 episodes because you can NOT skip to the end. That makes it for me that both are hard in different ways.

Moneywise yes griffon cost 250 gold, yet Season 4 cost 200 Gems per episode (discount packages ignored) So... both are expensive to get.

As for skills... Skyscale is not the fastest mount out there, but a great map completer, while the griffon keeps up with the beetle when you got enough height in the sky to dive and use the special skill before searing forwards like a jet.

Yes, farming gold should almost always be the last thing on your todo list when there is nothing else to do. You can always buy gems for cash (whose rate does not change, meaning they get cheeper over time because of inflation) and pick an optimum time to buy gold with them.

But the OP said they've already completed the PoF storyline (and enjoyed doing it) and would need to buy season 4. So for them the time required to complete the PoF story is irrelevant, so there's actually more story they'd have to do for the skyscale. (Not to mention someone who likes the story is likely to want to play it in order, instead of doing the first part of each episode to gain access to the map.)

it really depends what you currently have. Both Griffin and skyscale is not too easy. however if you have experiences of crafting legendary this is nothing.skyscale if you already unlock LS4 is cheap. you only need around 50~60gold. and tons of karma. if you havent unlock ls4 is expensive then griffin.
please notice: skyscale and griffin is different mount they cant replace each others. griffin is more for fun and fast travel. it need a really high ground as starting point. skyscale is like a helicopter. but both of them will glide it so you will need other mount if you travel land with no high ground.both mount are not necessary. its optional.on my experience if you craft skyscale before griffin is much easier. if you decide to make the move you need to be quick. player will start move from ls4 to ls5. good luck

You're right @Danikat.8537 I think people searching this topic in the future have more use of that comment than the OP.@JUN YANG.4328 Also a very good point. Actually a lot of the things you need to do for the Griffon are much easier if you have the Skyscale already. The other way around, not so much. Bunny, mushrooms and updrafts make the collection part in Dragonfall relatively easy.

Looking back, purely subjective, I sweared a lot more on Skyscale achievements than the Griffon ones.

I concur. Griffon is much easier to work with because everything you need is in base Path of Fire. The only real bane you have is the gold sink, but it's 250g broken down into ten purchases of 25g each. You also need to know your Awakened enemies, because your journey for griffon will involve fighting a lot of these. The only requirement is completing the full Path of Fire story.

As for skyscale, its collection spans across the entirety of Living World S4, so you need not only the gems, but you will be expected to spend even more gold if you don't want to deal with the timegated crafts (and trust me there's plenty), and map currency gathering (in my experience) is hair-pulling.

If you have to choose, I say start on your griffon now. I prefer it over skyscale except for niche cases.

Thanks, i will go with griffin, i am not that bothered to collect every mount in game, just want to get a griffin because it makes life easier for my main and my alts. For skyscale i would have to spend 1200 gems for Season 4 Story and as you said additional gold for additional resources and that would be too much of a hassle at least for now, maybe later on i decide to go for it but i doubt it.

When getting the griffon depends solely on there being enough people in the area to finish the last four events, it is not worth it and can't be done in a few days. I've already tried and failed to defend the sunspear six times. Why? Never enough people sticking around to help you after the defense of the sunspear at Diviner's Reach. Same goes for the bounty you have to do. If I can finish events without it, I won't bother to try for it again.

When the defend event is about to end tell people in map chat that there's another one after that and to stick around for it - a lot of people probably don't even realise there's another event.

Then, when the escort event is about to start:1) Put an advert in the LFG tool letting players not currently on your copy of the map know they can come and join in the event.2) Announce it in map chat and ask people to come and help.3) Ask your guild/s to come and help.(Do all 3 together, not just one of these.)

In all cases make sure you say it's needed for the griffon, both because other people might need it and just don't realise yet and because they're more likely to help if they know you need to finish that specific event and it's not just a random one you feel like doing. You could even put up the LFG message during the defend event, so people have more time to get there.

Bounties are the same, with the added advantage that you can start putting a group together before getting close enough to trigger the bounty, so you don't have to attempt it until you've got enough people.
