What in gods name hapend to wvw/eotm

I'm wondering why people still play this game. Why not just quit and play something else? Or will I hear the same "I made friends here" or "no alternative" comments?

I quit. From time to time I open this page to check IF something's changed, just curiosity, but after such a long time I'm more certain nothing will. They have proven it on many occasions.

Once a game (mode) goes into maintenance mode it's done. WvW has been in, for a long time.

In all honesty, do you really believe that they will invest into a 7 years old game after such a long period of blatant neglect and actually turn things around? After a large portion of their revenue has left?

This game is finished.

Look around - plenty of room to improve at, but they just toss new content out that everyone completes in a few hours and then we're back to square one.

Yes and boy do those two players per server that like it whine like babies when no one else wants to go there.

Right? The numbers have objectively fallen off a cliff since mounts.

And how do you connect that to mounts? I mean you can state it, but there is no way you can prove it. The numbers are going down since HoT and mounts weren't an issue.Correlation doesn't imply causation. The main reasons are most likely the players destroying the servers by transfering for karma train since seasons, balancing issues and Anets "maybe one day you'll get alliances".

WvW's problem is that it's not objective based. It has no meaning anymore and Faction pride is a thing of the past now. There are too many maps at once (4 maps and 1 EoTM map 5 total) which spread out the population too much which is why usually most of those maps are dead population wise. They need to cut down on boarderland maps. No need for 3 of then per match-up. I would combine the boarderland maps into one map and have just EBG and 1Borderland map. Or can do 1 EBG map and 2 Bl maps that are 2 Faction based maps.

Use the orange meta event timer system to introduce time based objectives to the WvW maps with designated winner/losers. Then it reverts back to the way its currently is where players just fight again over meaningless structures. This way both player types get something out of WvW.

Also need more mobile sieges added to the game with different uses and play styles.

Yup. Said it several times before that WvW needs better rewards. Players on the winning server get a chest, based on their participation level for the week. The chest can contain Grandmaster Marks, Legendary Crafting materials, etc. Players on the 2nd place server also get something. Players on the losing server get something even smaller. But rewards should be given for winning the week.

As someone who server hops and has been on every US server, this is not correct. You have a handful (if that even) who like the BL and play it. That is why it's a total waste land, I try and go roam there and will go clear around the whole map and back to spawn camp and no one has capped anything back yet, it's THAT dead. Yet at the same time, 3 way blob fights on EBG and 2 way blob fights on the other BLs. Blobs only go to DBL when there is nothing else to cap and they only go to cap every thing and leave to go back to the other maps. If so many people like the map as you seem to think, where are these people? They like the map so much yet don't play it?

After the legendary backpiece was launched, Edge of the Mist emptied of players wishing for said item. However once they gained the item and returned to Edge of the Mist...well we did notice that the full player base never returned as many player's ...at that time returned to playing full on EBG and the Borderlands. The idea was to pull in players from PvE into Wvw and for a short time it did work. We had que's on all maps again. However once again population started to dwindle down. Most came to get the backpiece, mount, or even the WvW legendary armor. But the current maps is like you eating the same food day after day after day after day after day after day....pretty soon you get tired of eating the same thing and pretty much go for a different food for a bit of time. Without a constant change in new "Exclusive only skins from WvW" or new maps, your not going to see a large infusion of new players. And the old players...well we either to stubborn to quit, or some got so tired of the same old muss and fuss they up and quit.

Nah bro, NA small linked server my havok guild loves desert because it seems to be the best place for small fights 5-15 often...even tho its a pain also...so it depends on peoples views...the map is way to big for present pop.

Yup. Said it several times before that WvW needs better rewards. Players on the winning server get a chest, based on their participation level for the week. Well, while EOTM no longer was an efficient means of leveling up a new toon, Anet had to nerf WXP gain in EOTM too iirc.

Anyway, my bet is that the majority of players who played EOTM and are still playing this game are playing metas in PvE maps and doing other things in this game that are more rewarding/efficient than WvW. They were never really the kind of player who was going to get into WvW. Us WvW vets like to say that EOTM pulled away a lot of players from WvW, but we forget it also pulled away a lot of players from other PvE maps and that's probably the real reason rewards were nerfed in EOTM as they were.

Can’t argue this in the least.

There are too many people trying to say that pips ruined EoTM which is a falsehood. It died when Karma and regular xp was Removed (short of times of course). Your original post would derail that narrative.

People are saying pips ruined EOTM because they are comparing the rewards between WvW and EOTM after the fact of pips and thinking that they themselves would go play EOTM instead of WvW if there were pips. But that still won't necessarily bring the PvE masses back to EOTM since by now this game has other more rewarding/efficient PvE activities. Pip reward chests aren't necessarily the best way to obtain certain rewards.
