Launcher will not download game

Recommended Posts

I will ad my issue here as well, as I cant re-install the game. Had to do an complete un-install due to game logging me in and when I hit the play button, game just closed and would not start. Only thing that changed for me in the last 3 years running gw2 was my isp is temporarily changed to spectrum from U-verse. I wont get my U-verse back until mid Feb, so it looks like i'm stuck.

was stuck too at 44k files remaining and each time I've started the launcher it would like say it downloaded 5G but the file remaining count stayed the same.As I live in Europe, tried the ns lookup with the non US server but to no avail. then decided to use the 54.x.x.x ip (main US server as shown above) and behold file count is dropping rapid and 0% is rising as I'm typing now only 2G is downloaded but below 29K files remaining, so hoping for the best.

So I'll say it again, I have a game that works very well but I've seen as many alerts of problems installing the game (and the term installation is not the same as update)

Those who already have the game are not too worried, but this is the first installation, if you delete your game, and the temporary folder and try to install it again, you will see that the game client will not be able to recover the files and this has been going on for a while now.

So it's currently a dead game or no one can come and install it again and obviously ArenaNet doesn't seem to care, it's pretty scary.

Personally I did the test without even deleting my game, I just copied the file "Gw2-64.exe" on another hard drive and ran this one, it thought the game was not there and tried to recover the files and boom it blocks at 91%, 49100 files (it can vary depending on the computer).

I have applied the proposed methods to change the asset server on the command line and it doesn't matter if I go through an A server or a B server of data, it doesn't want to retrieve the data or consider it corrupted at the source.

From what I've been trying to see, either it's a wrong CHMOD on the remote server that makes the file unreadable to anyone but the server administrator (lol guys) or the last data sent to the servers was corrupted at source at ArenaNet and ArenaNet doesn't seem to be aware of it (and that would be much worse).

Here you go, it's depressing to see so many posts and not even a single official response, there would have been one but it was unofficial it was just a copy of a message from an employee but not with an official account, so great what, it's still a mess in crisis communication (others say they're just all on vacation, even better what)

Based on the few logs that have been posted (with errors), people have had problems with file #1464517 (94,351,336 bytes), which is one of the bigger files that is transferred in chunks. I checked over 50 servers around the world to see if I could find one with an error and found 4. 13.224.162.89 for example is missing the last 2,761,768 bytes on this file.

In short, some servers have corrupted files and is where origincdn is the simple fix.

Yes this is it !The solution who work at this time (i had tested with new installation on virtual machine)Change the asset server to use "origincdn.101.arenanetworks.com"

This is the main asset server 'i think'Player can find a post on Reddit to this but dont care about the QoS.Dont do what it said about QoS just change the shorcut with the command line -assetsrv origincdn.101.arenanetworks.com

First time here, So Hi to all.... I had the same problem with reinstalling GW2 due to formatting my computer. Just want to say a big thanks to Healix.5819 for saving the day and my time to which I was going nuts, over why this was happening in the first place... Cheers.. :) :) :+1:

Just make a shortcut of Gw2.exe and right click then go to properties . Once opened just copy and paste the following. Change to your hard drive letter if needed.......... "C:\Program Files\Guild Wars 2\Gw2-64.exe" -assetsrv 54.84.216.160

this did work for me after i contact support, think is that i hade to close and re-launch the client 1-2 times and then it started to downloadGM Leopardess (Guild Wars 2 Support)

Hello ..........................

Thank you for contacting Guild Wars 2 Support!

After additional research, some players are using a workaround that seems to be working for those who were having trouble downloading the latest patch. If you could, please try the steps below as a potential solution:

Method 1

  1. Right-click the Guild Wars 2 shortcut
  2. Go to Properties
  3. In the Target field, add a space and paste the following string after the last quotation mark: -assetsrv origincdn.101.arenanetworks.com
  4. The full Target should look something like this (note the space after the quote): "C:\Program Files (x86)\Guild Wars 2\Gw2.exe" -assetsrv origincdn.101.arenanetworks.com
  5. Click Apply and try loading the game from the shortcut icon you modified

I can confirm this has helped me and finally I am able to download the rest of the game...

My download has stopped once I pressed play before the download was complete, around 51%. Once I exited the game and opened the client to finish the rest of the installation my files got stuck. It would go down only by 6-10 files once I closed the client and reopened it. It got stuck at around 250k files. However the downloading MB was still going up and my speed would be around 1MB/2MB and drop straight to 0KB for a couple of seconds.

What I've tried;~ Turning off QoS and turning on IPv6 for my network.~ Using the -repair command.~ Using the -assetsrv command with my suited IP address.~ And using a VPN.Nothing has worked for me and the files continue to be stuck. These are also my log files that might address the problem. Thank you.

@YourMammy.4278 said:~ Using the -assetsrv command with my suited IP address.

By suited I'm assuming you used assetcdn? The current problem is with the servers, and chances are if one was affected, all of your local ones are also affected, so you won't be able to easily find a working one. You need to use origincdn.101.arenanetworks.com instead, which is the main US server - you only need to use it long enough to get past the files it's stuck on.

Works the same for EU?

I just bought new MacBook Pro and I'm struggling with the same issue. Read the whole thread and nothing helped or I'm just bad with Mac (former PC user). So if there is simple way to tell what helps with Mac, I'm grateful.

Can't find gw2.exe file in Mac so no idea where to put -assetsrv origincdn.101.arenanetworks.com.

Sadly none of the arguments made difference :( I'll try to delete and upload the game

I'm having this issue today, too. Haven't played in months, but wanted to check in today. Unfortunately, the launcher won't even update itself.

It sits at 0KB downloaded, occasionally flashing the "Connection error(s) detected. Retrying..."

I've tried all of the advice on this thread. I've deleted my local client and tried a fresh installer from this website. I've tried forwarding the TCP ports listed here:https://help.guildwars2.com/hc/en-us/articles/115015788327-Configuring-your-Router-and-Firewall-Ports

I've tried changing my DNS server to 1.1.1.1. I've tried using "-assetsrv origincdn.101.arenanetworks.com". I've tried using an IP found via nslookup on that same address.

Nothing is working. The launcher refuses to download anything!

I have a Sophos UTM at home with some web filter active.

Some updates download fine, other update I switched to 4g to download.

Today I decided to redownload the game and ofc it got stuck. Downloading 50gb over 4G not an option so I investigated.

Ended up adding a filter option exception for ^https?://[A-Za-z0-9.-]*\.arenanetworks\.com/

and disable on this:

Block by download size

Antivirus

Extension Blocking

MIME Type Blocking

URL Filtering

Content Removal

SSL Scanning

Cert trust check

Cert date check.

After this I deleted all GW2 files and redownloaded the whole game without issues.

Maybe if you have an advanced Router/Security Device at home, I hope some of the info above is of use.

Cheers
