I agree.

Just as a side note: I recently found out, that two new mastery-points/insights were added to Grothmar Valley: "Shimmering Spire" and "Branching Out". Both are easy to reach and both mastery points can be used for Bjora-masteries. Maybe this helps a little.

Thank you. That helped a lot. Now I don't have to focus on content that I just don't enjoy. :-)

Story: Good, not boring, enough combat to keep me happy. Btw, who else hammered the dodge key when a certain arrow came flying? :)Map: The 2nd half of Bjora Marches reminds me a lot of tyria maps. Lots of small events and interactive objects give enough to explore. I especially like all the little jumping puzzles that are not difficult per se, but take some puzzling out.Meta-event: Drakkar is a bit of a hp sponge, but definitely a good meta-event. Not quite as epic as triple trouble, but definitely as good as tequatl.Achievements: Enough to make me come back to this map for quite some time. The "do event xyz x times" achievements I think are a very good idea. Just the right amount to not be annoying, but enough incentive to come back and not just jump/roll/fly past all those events. But even better are all the fight-oriented achievements. Those wanting you to break the cc bar x amount of times, jumping over waves etc. I think they are the best way of teaching a player what to focus on in a fight - at least in GW2. Ive definitely seen the effect already. People not just autoattacking, but actively trying to jump the waves at drakkar etc.Strikemission: Quite scripted and therefore in the beginning difficult, then it will become very easy. Definitely a good strikemission for people wanting to tackle some more difficult content, but still daunted by raids. Difficulty level is absolutely fine. Getting gold is enough of a challenge for raiders. Sadly, its not worth anything except pride and therefor people will just not go for it.Rewards: Imo, we need more accountbound "unique" rewards. The intrinsic value of accountbound rewards is the time spend achieving them. Buying things in the gemshop or trading post doesnt give you that enjoyment. RNG is fine - dont crucify me yet, keep on reading - as long as the content that you have to "grind" is enjoyable. One big part of this is getting small rewards on my way to "the big one". Meaning: exp and drops from killing normal mobs. Its one of those things Dragon's Stand just does right. The reward chests for reaching a progress point, but also tons of mobs to slay that each and everyone give exp and loot. At the same time theres no reason to stall the event and farm those mobs (like istan greathall champs) because everyone wants to finish the event before the timer runs out. Its imo a big flaw in the Jora's Keep defense event that mobs dont give loot. It turns a potentially fun defense event into a boring, just stand in a circle and survive afk event.

And to wrap it up: Sadly still no easymode and hardmode for 10man instanced content. Please Anet, consider adding difficulty settings. You can do this quite easily by adding a npc to each instance that gives either a buff that pulses all boons on the wearer every x seconds (easymode), or a no-downstate debuff (hardmode). Add 2 achievements that track progress on normal mode (no buff or debuff) and hardmode, similar to the dungeon reward achievement... et voila. Difficulty settings with adjusted rewards. The skill-level of GW2s playerbase is so varied, without difficulty settings, any content is either too difficult or too easy for parts of it. So the releases will always have negative backlash, which in my opinion, no raid/strikemission/fractal deserves. They are all done beautifully, and the bossfights are done better than anything else I get in other mmorpgs - and I tried them all ;p Seeing the lack of difficulty settings hold GW2 back from becoming really grand in that area... it saddens me.

I just find some Trial of Koda a pain to do. Respawn time of some event should be highly decreased, I think about disrupt svanir patrol near asgeir legacy, it feels like it takes 1h+ to reappear (edit: maybe bugged) , and in addition, it isn't guaranteed to have trial! That one is even screwed bugged! Sometimes essences to release don't appear a real mess. I also think that the chance of trial is like 1/5. Whereas I see ton of save frozen kodans and escort them/bait creatures during fishing, other are rarer.Ps: still don't have "Plant banners to challenge svanir" did ton of patrols without anything.

Already that Sifhalla was replaced/transformed into a Dwarf ruin (when that was not the case), they ended up erasing from the existence Haunted Homestead as if it no longer existed, I come from the ruins, but traces at least! There’s just a big mountain and then that’s it, it just hasn’t been modeled on the map. In addition, the points in comparison are offset against Guild Wars 1.https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Haunted_homestead

The polymock glacier, it is not super serious, especially since it remains logical, unlike the others.

There, another shout, sorry ! To ask if they have already played at Guild Wars 1st.. :'(By the way I also largely prefer the Drakkar of Guild Wars 1st, because currently have It looks like an ugly hairy crocodile.

Actually if you look at the That Shaman the haunted homestead is right on top of the Raven Sanctum, coincidently right near the trial of death. That being said, I would not be surprised if this area was taken over by Raven due to Raven’s connection with the afterlife, hence why this Sanctum was built.

The svanir patrol near asgeir legacy with the trial spawns around every two hours. But there are two other patrols (one is in aberrant forrest, one is in the north-east corner of the map) that work for the achievement. Just make sure that you interact with the dropped items to fill the "trial bar" and that the "trial bar" is completely full before the last mob is killed, our you would not get the achievement.

Maybe, but if it were really done on purpose we would have at least had some annotations (writings), or ruins and remnants of what was once this place in Guild Wars.Either it’s done awkwardly, or it’s just been scratched. And I think if we’re going in that direction where it’s voluntary, it’s just for ease.By the way if have look well it is not the same location.. (even if the sanctuary is large).

In any case, I find that it is a pity, and it shows the real intentions of this map, of this episode that I find boring (just like the Living History of Icebrood Saga so far : let us hope that the future of this saga is more positive.).

Yup it worked thanks, reported the bug, it should work if you fill that bar before but also after killing the patrol. Always filled the bar after killing them so I guess that's the issue.

Finally got around to finishing last night.

It wasn't a particularly inspiring addition, but it wasn't especially bad. Sort of overall a positive.

Which makes the negatives stand out a bit more:•Still too many "wait for the event" achievements, and too many "grind this event 20+ times" achievements. Let the map be its own fun and stop trying to strongarm participation.

•Yet another "wait a really long time in story and don't get hit not once by this no-tell, instant attack" achievement. The devs kill replayability of their content by having such. long. iteration times. on challenge content. Retry nodes already.

•And on the Whisper fight, those telegraphs do not show up well on the floor and have very little response time. There is not enough time between perceive->react->character motion to properly dodge them. I'm going to have to recommend some folks get lessons in neurology so these mistakes stop happening moving forward.

•Eagle shrine. Something needs to be done about this toilet-swirl mechanic. Like reverting Stability to a duration status and making it prevent all forced movement.

•Wolverine shrine. Can we give the boneskinners Swiftness, please?

•Mastery XP is worse than a crawl. I finished the entire episode without getting enough XP to get Raven's Flight, so I still can't use portals. Which of course locks out map completion and events. Couldn't even participate in the Drakkar event because I couldn't reach it.

•The champ fight before Drakkar, the one that summons ice floor... just gonna wtf his Defiance bar health. When a hammer warrior going full bore into it can't break it before it resets, something is terribly wrong. Fix it.

I'm a tad confused because Ive seen a couple of comments re: Drakkar and the masteries. I've killed him multiple times without any of the new masteries being completed., including Raven's Flight. What part is blocking progress to the event?

Wanted to make another thread for that, but I definitely think it's better to post here. The fabulous scary Boneskinner has been over-hyped since the start of Episode 1, it was told it will return in Episode 2, and it happened. But for a thing that made several trailers by itself (check episode 1/2 and the boneskinner announcement), it's a deception. That thing is surely the most nightmare-fueling thing I've ever seen, and it's a shame it has a so small role in those two episodes. The thing is scouting from mountains during the escort in east-bjora, but it is absent in west-bjora. It only appear during Drakkar meta during 1 minute! (I could have counted wolwerine shrine, but well I consider it's another type of it, also appear during what, 3 minutes?). Why not at least, adding it in west-bjora, scouting from mountains?

So got an idea/suggestion, to give it back its badge of honor and fame: Make an activity, in a rectangular shaped Forrest corridor arena.Fast version: Like that

(but replace phantoms by boneskinners, shard with offering, etc...)

Two teams. One playing wolwerine priest assistants; the second one playing as Boneskinners with unique skill set. Goals? Bringing offerings and survivors to the other side of the arena without being catch. Lantern posts would act as sanctuaries, Boneskinners have skill like turning into survivor or mimicking voices, also spreading dark fogs. Points are earned by reaching the shrine (teleporting you back to the start) or by killing survivors. Add to that ability for those boneskinners to spawn poison mushrooms lines or temporary vine walls at specific locations. Finally, some "powerups" around the arena turning during a very short time boneskinners into undying boneskinners able to catch players in sanctuaries. For players, it makes them invincible for a short time too. Speed boost.... Imagine that as a 10 vs 10 players. 10 min session then role swap.

I think this is what confused me, since I didn't really think anyone had their masteries levelled 2 hours after launch when our first Drakkar teams went through and smashed it down rather fast. I guess there might have been a bug meaning they just opened w/o the mastery or that somehow just enough players boosted their way to doing it to open up for others.

Like:

  • Theme: I like the icy map, and the atmosphere setting throughout the story. Good stuffs.

  • Kodan: I like that the story actually brought Kodan back, it's just a missed opportunity that they were just there briefly and were never participate in more parts of the story.

  • OMG Aurene!!!!!! That was a surprise! Not only that she has grown, but the room was so pretty! I'd like to see more developement around Aurene and my character.

Indifferent:

  • Masteries: Just not a fan of masteries that is only useful on one single map. It felt like a time sink (for leveling them) instead of something being useful (like gliding/mount/autoloot). Edit: (wishful thinking) replace the mastery with build template slot unlock ;)

  • Bjora JP: TBH I'm not a person who like any JP (also hate the Grothmar carry-torch JP with passion), I'm just horrible at them, but I gotta say doing the JP with mount on the 1st half the Bjora map made me like JP and I would repeat them if need be, but not a fan for the no-mount-zone-JP on the 2nd half of the map: they're easy enough for me, but with the mobs crippling me, having to jump on the very slim planks and once fell I'll have to find my way back up again and confused where should I continue (becuase of the multiple JPs in the same room), I'm not sure if I will repeat those no-mount-zone-JPs.

  • Lodestones: Ok.... if the tier 3 weapons require them, at least made them a possible drop from playing on the map (like chest/event/map reward).

  • Story duration: I like that the story is short, and all achivements can be completed by going over the story 1-time, but short doesn't mean the story should feel like it's rushed and thinned-out. You can still have a meaty story-line that pans out into few good episodes. The map is already broken into half, might aswell just tell the story in more details and make more episodes on the same map.

  • Drakkar: To be fair, I actually like the boss, I just felt that the duration required to complete the meta is too long to my taste. May be it's just me but I prefer the duration to be cut by at least 1/3, if not I won't be seeing myself repeating the boss after I've done my achievement (and never want to attempt the rng reward because I was never lucky enough).

  • Grindy achivement: not a fan of achivements that require players to grind x number of times though it doesn't bother me too much, I just prefer to be done with the map achievements within a reasonable amount of time then choose my own content to do after that. The thing about being too grindy is, it's easy to get sick of and not wanting to re-visit the map ever again because of the burnt out. IMO replayability shouldn't be forced upon, but it's about willingness to come back because the map offers meaningful reward.

Dislike:

  • Anything about Braham: Ever since he first appearance, I've never liked him and I'm very sad that how he's even more important now. His character was never developed for more heroic setting, he didn't mature enough to be justified as a person who will save the day. It felt like his name was dropped into a prize drawing box and he got picked to be a chosen one that way, and then he cluelessly accepted the role and became the "main character"?????? How long more do I have to tolerate Braham being everywhere I go? Hopefully the next episode is the place I say good bye to him.

  • Mobs in the JP: they made me nervous that, I wasn't sure if I will run out of time by clearing the mob, or ignoring them and loss my focus on jumping. I think I was killed twice (in 2 different JPs) and got annoyed that I have to run all the way back again.

  • Bangar's attack: How did I just got 1-shot that easily? Was my character that dumb and forgot how to dodge or lost the situation awareness? How did I get surrounded by few other characters who stood in front of me didn't see what was coming or even tried to protect me???? That was a big bow! If Bangar were to surprise attack me, he still needed few seconds to draw the bow and load the arrow, which made him obvious that he was going to do something and my ally and I should be on alert. IMO it'd be more convincing that my character got shot after a decent fight, or a sneakier attack, having to tank an arrow right in my face without any resistance is just doesn't feel right for a very experience commander who has been through a lot of battles. Also how did Bangar & Rylan just walked-off off the scene like that? I mean I thought Braham attacked them and they are unharmed??? Did Rytlock & Crecia not trying to stop Rylan at least? So many plot holes.

I have just played a character through HoT, PoF, LW 3 and 4, and I think it's safe to say that Bjora Marches is the type of content that people were afraid would be produced after the layoffs last year. To paraphrase the old joke, not only is it below average, there isn't enough of it!

The only thing I would add to comments above -- many of which summarize the numerous problems with the last two releases eloquently -- is that the 37-achievement meta appears to be a not-at-all disguised way to keep players grinding in the hope that won't notice the lack of substantial content now and in the future.

I love this game and I hope that it turns itself around before it is too late.

Ah yes, I guess if the event reaches the final area it's not obvious where to go.

You prob know now, but just in case - there's a tunnel starting from the fractured "lake" which winds down towards the boss area

To add to my earlier feedback, one of the things about the map that I think is bugging me is that ice doesn't look like ice. It feels like bricks of something randomly thrown together. There's not enough smooth article. I get there's a lot of rock involved with the moving of mountains, but at least make it seem like the area on top of Drakkar is ice. It feels like reskinned branding which completely inappropriate. You did ice well in the core areas, but you've tried to be too stylish both in map and on the overview and it hasn't conveyed the geopgraphy at all well.

Ok. After playing a bit.Minus:

  • Far too many achivements for an emote as reward. And it is not even on a reward track for pvp or wvw.
  • Far too many achivements are grind. "Do this x times" Boring! Feels like a desperate way to make ppl stay on the map.
  • 7 years old poor quality armour set as reward that looks hideous on charr (should have been Norn only!) And made a coat (again!!!???) for medium, Just no! At least give it a touch up!
  • The map feels like a new map rather than an extended part of an existing one.

Plus:

  • Beautiful map!
  • Aurene in HoM cool, and She's amazing!
  • Fun new strike!

To retort on the two comments above, I would say that ice is badly rendered in some core maps too. Hoelbrak frozen lake and other svanir/icebrood camps use that bad texture. For good frozen like see Falooaloo in Dredgehaunt cliffs. The ugly texture is their "icebrood brand". Bitterfrost and Frostgorge are also full of nice ice textures. I'm afraid of seeing Jormag with that texture everywhere on it. I warn them to make Jormag with normal ice on it.

I feel like west bjora isn't bjora, it's another map too. But I think it's due of seeing that awful texture everywhere.

on a scale of 1-10, 10 being the best game play value

8/10 Story:8/10 Lore: More lore books!!!! AWESOME still wish we could store them in a library ;)9/10 Map: I like the way it was expanded, the explorability of it keeps that "still haven't seen it all " feeling10/10 Music:8/10 Audio: I have ambient maxed and still not enough only get a couple sounds. Never any snowy footsteps or crows cawing..9/10 Things to do: Plenty of achievements, events, mechanics (Ox, Wolverine, Eagle shrines),10/10 Dungeon Crawl: Brought back the D&D dungeon crawl feeling. The Raven gated areas were great! (traps, monsters, LOOT, hidden/dungeony area). We need more of this kind of feel to the game mode.8/10 Koda Trials: Frequent, fun, challenging, scalable! Some confusion on the Koda Be Praised for many players5/10 Masteries: a bit buggy I am not getting the use of my masteries as frequent when it's charged up as others and my wife are!! Mostly during Drakkar World Boss3/10 Rewards: Here is the bomb! The rewards that we PvE'rs, Fashion wars players, collectionists, and others ACTUALLY PLAY the game for have a few unfortunate decisions tied to them (see below). And yes, the emote while nice isn't really a prestigious reward as much as an armor set or weapon set is!

The Raven Armor set:This should have been tied to the Spirit achievement repeatable tiers for Ox, Eagle, and Wolverine NOT RNG from various areas and a single purchasable from merchant and one from an achievement. This was a HUGE disappointment and something our family was looking forward to! Until IBS historically Weapons and Armor sets have been achievements or Token based and kept us playing for many years. We played the content until the next release arrived. Now, that doesn’t appear to be of interest due to RNG. This starts down the road of pay to win in the sense that now we can just throw money your way for gems, buy keys and collect Statutes to gain the rewards tied to the LWS content!! Dangerous path to take! Already players have suggested that this be the method since they are no longer tied to Achievements. VERY SAD!

Illuminated Boreal Weapon set:I admit I was a voice in this very method of reward crafting. I enjoy it and think it should have been the norm from day 1. You find or craft a weapon then KEEP it and continue to upgrade it into you cherished weapon all the way to legendary! Once T2 was unlocked we should not have had to purchase them again for crafting T3 that material should have been “gifted” / automatic IF it was previously unlocked. This just makes players more horders than they already are and I’m glad I did not salvage mine!!! What should have been done was to just credit us for what we did do in the first place. On the topic of Tier 3 and RNG failure!! relays on materials that very rarely IF ever dropped! The solution in game is to buy the lower tier due to the scarcity of T5 Advanced materials. That should be changed. All day long T6 Intermediate materials drop and only after an hours worth of playing did a single Advanced material drop. Fix it please

Overall it appears IBS, AS MUCH AS I WAS SOOOO EXCITED FOR IT, is actually killing casual play as well as the elite and competitive game modes! This marks a very sad realization for us.

"Casual" player here - skip this post if that makes you cringe. And please pardon any terms I use that aren't "exact".

I like the variety of events, and the story line is good. I see the new map(s) being enjoyable with smaller populations after new content is introduced and the masses move forward. I am hoping the rewards will still seem worthwhile after all the achievements have been completed.

Collectible rewards (read: armor sets) should not require both Strike Missions and Events. Can't we work towards them using one mode, or mix & match if we want to? Let the player choose. It just isn't fun for those who don't fit other player's idea of "correct" gaming--from either perspective. (E.g.: lots of people enjoy fruit salad, but some folks are allergic to strawberries, and those bananas get yucky after a while.) Would like a preview of what the armor I select from the Reliquary will look like, especially since we can only choose one item per account.

I expect a story to have some dissonance, hopefully to be resolved later in very entertaining ways. Despite the frustrating twists and turns, it's interesting to watch Braham grow as he completes his rite(s) of passage. Like in real life, it isn't pretty. But his apparent size/age does make it awkward and difficult to relate to--like a 14-year old in the body of a grown man. What's up with the rest of our team??? Did they drop off the face of the earth? Loved seeing Aurene. I agree, would like more HOM connectivity to GW1. I think we would all like to see more connections with GW1 throughout. Love the idea of books returning to the game.

The move towards more micro-transactions has been too heavy and too sudden. We've noticed the change, and it's a downer for us loyal players.Pegasus notes - would like more of a narwhal horn than...what it is. The beak mouth looks a little funky. Otherwise, kinda fun. I had been expecting more of a Greek mythology look, so I was taken aback at first. I'm hoping RNG gods allow me to get the whale glider someday. Will it be available for statuettes within the next couple of years?

The RNG meter needs some balancing. "Rare" should not be "Never". I would expect a rare item to drop from a BL chest, bonus chest, or world boss at least once a month (playing daily for 1-3+ hours depending on the day), but that just isn't the case, even with fairly good Magic Find. Even the Enchanted chest in my home instance disappoints nearly half the time. Less stingy = happier players!
