Gear concern due to patch and some suggestions

We all know that major changes to professions are starting, and I’d like for the dev team to seriously consider looking at improved ways of gearing up and transmutation methods going forward. Examples from this thread...

I'm ok with decreased costs or methods of acquiring - for trinkets, back, wep, armor. What makes WvW mode interesting is testing every single combination and also coming up with your own flavour outside of meta or running around with a gimmick build for more challenge. Of course people who have everything will object to it, but we should also think of the new players who have 0 and are also commiting to this game mode more than the others. The time spent in WvW should be spent getting better at playing instead of being gated behind stuff that just frustrates them. Get those players geared as quick as possible so they enjoy the mode. Well, I should say not just for new people but everyone in general. Getting exo wep with selectable stats should also be considered, outside of the skirmish vendor prices which may be high for some that are starting. For the time people invest in WvW, asc armor/wep should drop as frequent as they do in fractals.

Getting Exotics is incredibly easy in this game, which is enough to get started in WvW; there is no need for new players to get ascended gear as handouts. Min/maxing is a huge part of this game since we don't have increased level caps and limited gear tiers.

And I don't say that out of spite, I'm considering the entire game economy and the fact that getting ascended gear is a major part of the sense of progression in this game. If you just make it 'drop like in fractals' (which you have to have at least one ascended set for, on top of AR, on top of T4 unlocked to have any real chance of dropping it) then you will exhaust the progression for those players very very quickly. Perhaps even too fast to learn the intricacies of their classes.

In short, you're not doing them any favors.

You can easily get stat changable trinkets from the wvw vendor. Instead of using the wvw currency to change stats, you can get it for pvp currency (just buy it-- no pvp required). It's about 1g to change all mist trinkets statwise.

What they should do is like, double the amount of grandmaster mark shards that are given every week. It's quite pitiful as it is atm, and don't even think of crafting them, because they are not even better than crafting it conventionally and often worse.

I also think every reward track should reward one grandmaster mark.

If you already have ascended gear, this is a non-issue since the rest can be stat changed. If you're still using exotic trinklets/weapons and you've been playing for a while, you're either doing something very wrong or this is like your 6-7th character.

You peeps have to consider that players may need, or have a desire, to change gears given the vastness of the patch. It’s not “cheap” to transmute gear sets and various trinkets cannot be transmuted. WvW infusions cannot be transmuted at all.

Overall I like the gearing up system, but it could use a review. Especially in the transmutation area, and especially with the changes starting to roll in over time.

The hardest to "stat switch" is Diviner's because if you're not saving up those Serpentine Jewels, you can only switch an equipment once a day because of the time gate and account-bound nature of it.The most expensive is Minstrels with the cost of Freshwater Pearls. You can use the Bloody Ruby trinkets for Backpacks, a Ring and an Amulet for a very cheap stat switch. For the rest, use the Mist Trinkets. You can buy the Mist trinkets with Skirmish Tickets, PVP Tickets, or even Pristine Relics.

It's really not that hard if you put effort.

And I'd like to inform you that I have like 400 individual pieces of ascended gear, full raid leg armor, leg back piece, all but 1 leg trinket and 18 leg weapons.

Yeah. My bad. I'm all for it. I've always have this uneasy feeling that the WvW community didn't have an outrage that Diviner's can't be stat-swapped to if you only play WvW. I guess because it was never meta? We'll see when the patch hits. My guess is probably nothing will change and this issue will just be overshadowed by the sea of salt from the nerfs.

And weird flex on your gear, but okay!

That wasn't a "flex", that was a clarification bc you wrote "It's really not that hard if you put effort."

If someone needs to change gears bc of the super patch it can be annoying and drain game resources and currencies to do so. You also cannot transmute certain gears, like trinkets and back items that costs a player various combinations of golds, mats, laurels... and time. Transmuting also gobbles up spirit shards and that's a time played based resource, and laurels are a log in resource... WvW infusions, that you can't transmute, either costs laurels or laurels and tix. WvW trinkets cost tix and mem of battle... "Costs" add up, and it's not clean cut when looking at totals.

Hypothetical... Player bought a full set of ascended trinkets with laurels, which cost 180 laurels and 100 ectos. Massive patch changes things. Player is not happy and maybe stuck now with subpar stats from gear that was time gated and took 3 months of daily log -ins to get. Player cannot trade-in that laurel gear or transmute...

So do we have the devs tell that player... "too bad. oh well.", or do we ask the devs to maybe review gearing up, and stuff, considering the massive patch that will be the starting point of big changes in the future?

Are we talking about a wvw player, here? Cause trinkets are too easy to obtain via reward tracks. So, hypothetically, player has the option to a) have saved a LOT of LS3-ls4 mats and buy whatever new stats they want or b)ignore the meta moronic thingie and play with the same stats till they can farm what they need. Gearing up is too easy, plenty of wvw selectable stat armors (exotic), trinkets through map currencies (reward tracks). So, yes, much like in pve where raiders NEED the latest meta stats for some specific builds, it is a "Ah, too bad, oh well" case. In wvw, till the dust settles, people can farm armor boxes, currencies, materials.

Some of you are missing the points entirely...

First off, please stop posting ways for me to get gear. I have gear. 400+ ascended pieces. Full raid leg armor. Leg back. Leg trinkets minus 1. 18 leg weapons... I know how to get gear, that’s not the point of the post...

Dev are starting a massive overhaul to professions. I’m simply asking to review old gearing up methods, review transmutation costs and requesting that players be able to transmute all gears non-transmutable currently... All in an effort to help cushion the potential blows to players. And please pay attention... There are gears, that players may have acquired, that CANNOT be transmuted... and that is a problem. Players CANNOT transmute wvw and other infusions either... Costs and mats and currencies add up, and so do transmutation costs... It’s not FREE of resources to transmute whatever gear you can transmute, and it’s crappy to not being able to transmute some gears...

Pay attention here... These are the potential costs that a player incurred to make a full set of gear... And I’m asking for a better way... and more...

“Additionally, crafting a full set of ascended isn’t exactly cheap...

Which is 3 weeks of WvW for a players with 0 recources. This is an issue how exactly in a MMORPG?

You have so many people running around complaining they have nothing to do, yet you propose reducing an already short gear grind even further? Seems nonsensical to me.

First of all, you’re not paying attention to the main points and that’s obvious. Second, I didn’t say players needed ascended day 1. Third, some gear can’t be transmuted and that’s a loss in currencies and time, which could tee off some. Fourth, there are huge changes, revamps, and nerfs starting, so reevaluating gearing up, costs for gear and how players can change their gears are important... You don’t go nerfing and changing everything and not take player time and investments into gear as a factor to builds.

Good luck and thanks for your feedback!

For trinkets, there are 2 sets you can get that are stat changeable:https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Stat_changing#Trinkets

For back piece:https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Blood_Ruby_Backpack

(Or go with a legendary of which there are 3 in the game. One from WvW one from Spvp, and one from Fractals.)

Armor is really any ascended gear that you get for free as drop boxes or you can craft them.

The meta doesn't change that often to be honest and we've all had to change out gear because of it over time. It's a part of this game's end game. You take that away and there's really nothing to build towards. The game already has very little gear progression compared to most MMO. As a side note, you can get 2 full free ascended pick the stats sets of armor doing the achievements in raids. That is worth doing if you have the time and gumption for it.

So far as infusions go, you really don't need wvw infusions. They barely make a difference. I've been doing WvW since the game started and i've been running fractal infusions only even in wvw just for the Fractal AR with a few cosmetic infusions for the real end game cosmetics. The stat infusions are just there for another added End Game feature that barely adds any stats really. I've never found it to be worth it. Although i might consider it since i now have 2 legendary sets. Infusions in trinkets can be extracted using the fractal extractor so the only infusions you can really make an argument for are the ones on the armor and weapons to which I'd say runes and sigils are the real cost for doing an ascended gear stat swap.

A good progression guide for attaining cheap gear for a new player. Make an exotic set that allows you to pull decent enough dps in raids. Join a guild that does achievements or post pugs in LFG for the achievements you need for the Envoy set. Get the Envoy set. A full set of Ascended gear that is stat select. Stat a dps build that is either berserker for power meta or viper for condi. Start doing fractals and grinding the AR and personal level to be able to do t4. Do your T4 daily and you'll net a lot of free ascended gear boxes over time. About mid way through this climb i'd suggest going the blood ruby set route for your back and accessories. That set with your Envoy armor will give you full ascended stat swap gear but you most likely won't need to use it because this is your fractal gear set anyway and berseker/viper will always be meta. Over time you'll be able to full gear multiple alts using the free armor boxes and trinkets that drop from the t4 daily boxes. Eventually you'll have more gear sets than you can even use.

Overall I like the gearing up system, but it could use a review. Especially in the transmutation area, and especially with the changes starting to roll in over time.

I also desire all my weapons to be legendaries and about 1000 more AP. That's not how it works. The devs have no guarantee to you that you stay meta. I change stats like every week and have a bunch of useless concentration infusions. C'est la vie. Same reason why gemstore items don't get refunds after a certain point; you've already gained enough use of it over time-- stuff depreciates.

Infusions are an irrelevant part of gearing; it only matters in fractals and certainly not for the stats. It translates to like what? 90 stats and some bonus against guards. Nobody loses fights because they didn't have infusions. Infusions can also be extracted and used elsewhere.

Ascended trinkets are a dime a dozen. You get WvW trinkets from tickets and memories which are gained by just playing it. If you choose to spend ectos on earrings (seriously who does that?) that's your problem. Ectos are cheap and laurels are handed to you anyways, so a non-issue.

And literally every stat can be compensated for with creative gearing. For example, instead of taking diviners you could use boon food or even concentration infusions or cheap harrier gear and make up the precision/ferocity elsewhere. It's the final numbers that matter, not the actual stat names, and most of the ways to min max are pretty cheap. It's highly unlikely most of the exotic stat types have any use in wvw; or really anywhere else.

And it's also not like I didn't say to increase the availbility of grandmaster marks, which I do consider useless as is. That would be a far better help to people than just some silly infusions that nobody needs. In the days of 3s silk and 30s ectos, and no reward tracks I might have had some issue with this, but this is a non issue in this day and age.

As a side note while I'm thinking about it. The best way to start building out your ascended sets is to make a DPS set for each weight class since it's sharable. The cheaper route is berserker but you'll get more out of it if you go viper because condi meta is stronger. When i started (pre viper existing) I focused on building 1 set of ascended berserker for each weight class. When viper came out i built 3 sets of viper, one for each weight class. Then I focused on more specific stuff like wvw sets and the like. Keep in mind though. I was running exotics for all of those previous to building the ascended which is more than enough to thrive in the wvw setting.

@Swagger.1459 I think players in general will complain, just as you are now, about every little thing. Some of those complaints should be taken seriously, but some would directly damage the game. Itemization, both from scratch as well as stat changing, is very very very generous and short in this game compared to any other competitor in the same genre.

Even if a big balance patch, which is a rare occurrence in this size and scope, is likely forcing some change on players gear does not necessarily require a permanent change to this already very generous system. On the contrary, making permanent changes to the game based on singular events is a very short sighted approach.

For reference, to change 1 item (armor or weapon) in stats you need:

That amounts to a total cost of less than 5-6 gold, plus the insignia/inscription (if we even assume a value for the spirit shards, given how many players do not convert all their shards). For a best in slot item.

Trinkets are a dime a dozen and get made easier and easier to acquire, most recently the amulet which takes maybe 10 minutes of play on the new Bjora Marches map to acquire the resources required. For people who want to change stats on those there is even slightly more expensive options which can have stats changed.

A final issue on this: any more convenience and legendary items become completely unnecessary since ascended gear would mirror their unique benefit. Multiple ascended sets already outperform legendary gear in the cosmetic department. This is something which would as well damage the longevity of the game.

EDIT: and yes, I did read your entire post the first time. I just did not feel the need to go into detail, once again, on a what I still believe is just another variation of the typical: I want stuff faster, complaints.
