Game downloader stuck at 22,677 files but the game keeps downloading - SOLVED

Hello, yesterday I had an issue with Guild Wars 2 patch download where it was stuck but the launcher was downloading something, I left it for about 2 hours and files remaining were the same but the launcher had downloaded 4GB by that point. So I deleted the game and tried downloading it again but same thing, now I'm stuck at 22,677 and it wont move. I tried some stuff I saw online like, adding "-assetsrv 54.84.216.160" to the target, VPN, turning off QoS Packer Scheduler but nothing worked. Does anyone have any clue to why is this happening or anything that might fix this?

Open the following folder (enter it into the path of any folder):

%appdata%/Guild Wars 2/

In this folder, delete Local.dat. Note that this will cause you to lose your remembered login and some sound and graphics settings.

Launch with the following options:

-log -image -assetsrv 50.16.144.158 -patchconnections 1

If after 10 minutes it's still stuck on the same file count, close GW2 and check Gw2.log for errors, found under %appdata%/Guild Wars 2/.

Infinitely downloading without progress happens when the files it downloads are corrupted. It can be caused by other software, your network/ISP, or be a problem with the server.

To confirm that the options applied, launch with the following:-assetsrv 127.0.0.1This should cause the launcher to fail to connect. Now try the alternative IP:-assetsrv 34.228.150.82

Your log is what it looked like when the servers were having problems, however, I can confirm that 50.16.144.158 isn't a problem. You're stuck on file #2269653, which should be 95.1 MB (99,759,252 bytes), but something is interrupting it and causing GW2 to get a partial copy. Try downloading that file in your browser to see if it's also affected.

If you have a VPN, enable it. Confirm your browser is using the VPN (check your IP using Google). Try different VPN servers, preferably one in the US and another in Canada. Assuming you tried downloading the file in your browser and it wasn't the expected size, now try it. If it's still a problem, it's caused by software, with the most obvious being anti-virus/firewall/security software.

To rule out most other software, press WindowsKey+R and open msconfig. Under the boot tab, check safe boot and network under it, then ok, but don't reboot. Open a command prompt as an administrator (search start for cmd > right click > run as admin), then enter the following:

netsh winsock resetnetsh int ip reset

Reboot to enter safe mode, then try launching GW2. To return to normal, open msconfig again and uncheck safe boot.

Adding -assetsrv 127.0.0.1 to my target on the shortcut doesn't seem to do anything, it launches normally, I'm not sure why, I made a new shortcut from the Guild Wars 2 folder but same thing, could it just be that target path is not saving properly? And one more thing, while testing exiting and starting launcher updates the remaining files, everytime I open the launcher there seem to be 1 or 2 files less in the remaining files.

Just to make sure my target path is correct, this is what it looks like: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Guild Wars 2\Guild Wars 2\Gw2-64.exe" -assetsrv 127.0.0.1 (path is correct I have Guild Wars 2 folder inside another Guild Wars 2 folder)

On further testing, the last patch seems to have broken the -assetsrv option entirely and it will be ignored. The alternative method:

Open notepad as an administrator, then open the file:C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts

Add a line to the bottom and save it:127.0.0.1 assetcdn.101.arenanetworks.com

Now GW2 should fail to connect. Change the line and save it:50.16.144.158 assetcdn.101.arenanetworks.com

Confirm if it's still stuck. Remove the line when you're done.

SOLVED - I have added (127.0.0.1 assetcdn.101.arenanetworks.com) at the bottom of the hosts file and as you said I got error while connecting, afterwards I just removed it added second line (50.16.144.158 assetcdn.101.arenanetworks.com) and IT WORKS, finished download in 10 mins somehow.

It's failing to connect, so you potentially have other software interfering with it, such as an anti-virus/firewall. You can try accessing the file in your browser, which may or may not reveal something - file #2277122 (4918356 bytes), and #2277151 (2175240 bytes).

Judging by your log, I'm assuming you didn't edit the hosts file? Start by following that (remember to remove it later), then the command line options. Lastly, follow the last half - to rule out most other software...

The IP changes regularly. To look it up yourself, open cmd.exe and enter:nslookup origincdn.101.arenanetworks.com 8.8.8.8

It's currently:35.175.29.18734.234.81.161

Try different servers:

Open a command prompt (cmd.exe) and enter:

 

nslookup assetcdn.101.arenanetworks.com 8.8.8.8

 

Edit your hosts file with one of the IPs, then launch GW2 to test the speed. Repeat until you find one that is acceptable.

You can also try the following option:

-patchconnections 20

Launch with:-image -patchconnections 1

If it's still stuck, delete %appdata%/Guild Wars 2/Local.dat, and (if it exists) Documents/Guild Wars 2/Local.dat, then try launching with the above options again.

If it's still stuck, press WindowsKey+R and open ncpa.cpl to bring up your network connections. Right click your primary connection and select properties. Uncheck QoS packet scheduler, then OK. Launch GW2. If it's still stuck, follow the steps again, but this time check or uncheck (the opposite of what it was) Internet Protocol Version 6, then OK and try again.

If it's still stuck, follow the last half - to rule out most other software...

Hey guys, I stumbled across this thread while working on the same issue. I was able to check and use the correct IP thanks to the cmd instructions Healix.5819 posted and the launcher downloaded the remaining 14k files.

Given that it sounds like that IP changes frequently, is this going to be a common occurrence that we'll have to manually enter the IP every time the game patches?
