Are stike missions for 5 or 10?

Recommended Posts

Hello, I'm quite a casual pve player, I usually do T4+recs and some raids with pug, so I'm not an expert, I just know some mechanics and my Weaver rotation.

Yesterday for the first time I joined a 10 man team for strike missions and we did a couple of run. What I noticed is that the runs we did were extremely easy, and we always finished the strike without any wipe.

My question is, was I really lucky to find a good team, or Strike missions are designed for 5 people? Or maybe we just did the easiest strikes?

Thanks for the clarification!

It depends on the Strike Mission. The Grothmar valley one can be done solo (if you are really good), or duo/trio (if not), 10 or even 5 people are overkill for that oneThe latest one can be soloed easily as there are no hard requirements for more players, provided you don't use the extra challengesFraenir of Jormag is easily done in a group of 5 as it's like a low level fractal or dungeon boss

The other 3, Claw and Voice, Boneskinner, Whisper of Jormag are designed for more players.

I really don't know the names, one was the one from Grothmar valley, and it was super easy, then another one quite easy where the boss at one point change and become an ice elemental, and the last one a bit more challenging, where there were two bosses

Ok so for sure I did some of the easiest, thanks for the explanation, today I will try the others and see if it's better :)

The only actually hard strike missions are Boneskinner and Whisper of Jormag, the others have a very low challenge level and that's by design to ramp up the difficulty in some form of progression. The latest Strike Mission (from the Visions of the Past story) can be challenging enough if you use the challenge mote, without it it's a solo experience. Only reason to get a 2nd person is to make it go faster because it's really slow when done solo (but really easy).

They're "hard" because pugs ignore the clear instructions they're given at the start, or just don't even bother telling they're doing it for the first time.

I've repeatedly told people not to go for a rez if they're tethered into the chains, and what do they do? Run around and try to rez people.

To OP: just tell people it's your first time doing it, and ask if something's unclear - even after failing the first time, or the second time. Just ask 'what did I do wrong', for example. People will gladly tell you.

Which puts you ahead of probably 70%-80% of this games player base.

Congratulations on the smooth run. Even if the strikes might have been among the easier ones, given how there is players who can't manage even these "easy" strikes, you can probably guess where the problem lies: huge disparity in player skill across the entire player base.

Up until the latest public mission, the escort Forging Steel, strikes had 1 difficulty no matter how many player joined (thus no player scaling) and just varied in difficulty.

The intent here is to offer content of varied difficulty to enable players of all levels to enjoy instanced content (and ideally improve while doing so for more challenging content).

TL;DR:The general complaints that instanced content is to challenging is often exaggerated on the official forums. From a perspective of maximum performance or high performance within this games combat design, no content is difficult (aka skilled players will have no or minor issues with challenging content). Unfortunately from an average player base skill level, the same content is very challenging.
