"No Quarter" is live!

Recommended Posts

Well let's see, it's only been a day but.. Love the scenery, the constant action, Strike is lots of fun, and oh.. what else.. NEW TREES for Guild Hall. I am really excited.. (you could tell right?). Dwayna bless your Art Department! I haven't decided if I will wait for voice acting to be added in, or not. Still going like I always do, and following my nose. I'm really enjoying just wandering around, and beleive it or not, the added peril for winged mounts (no gonna spoil it) is really adding a nice sense of realism. For my part, I am loving the new Chapter. Won't lie, no voices in camp reminds me of the peril in real life. But that has to be for now. Thank you for this, the distraction is much appreciated.

Why should they try this map in particular? The siege weapons from WvW do not transform this PvE-map into some form of WvW. The map is still pure PvE.

Yes but the siege weapons are similar. It may get some wvw to dabble a bit more into story. On the flip side it could get some PvE players to explore wvw or its training grounds eotm. I haven't really gotten far into this but found myself doing what I first did in wvw running supply and following tags. couldn't do a whole lot but I could at least run supply or take supply Yaks at level 30 something and felt I was making a contribution in wvw.. I actually leveled up one character from 7 to 49 almost purely on wvw. Now only level 80s can play wvw so forcing everyone to play PvE til level 80, Is PvP that way as well now. have to have a level 80 to play PvP?

The change to the "Special Mission Documents" is a bit annoying. Sure, 2000 karma per document after completing a category was a bit excessive, but 16 copper? That's junk item value, but I can't sell them as junk. They're a waste of space now. And tier 19 of the 4 "glory" achievement has become a joke because of this.

The implementation of the siege weapons does not seem particularly effective beyond just breaching the door since you have to manually operate them. I've tried to manually operate one at any other time and I just get slaughtered by the enemies. Some automation would be lovely.

@Ashantara.8731 said:I love this episode! I wasn't too fond beforehand of the whole Charr civil war idea (whaat with whiny Rytlock and rebellious Ryland and all), but - burn me! - the execution of it was surprisingly good: dark, well written (except for my Commander still sounding like an uneducated redneck) and exciting to play through.

The map is also extremely well designed. The textures are beautiful and the events, although a bit much to take in at first, make the map seem alive and fun to explore. Looking forward to be doing all those achievements (5,000 seems like a lot... oof!).

Edit: Now that I have played through the meta cycle twice, I have to say that I dislike it a lot. It is too hectic in design. :-1:

I concur. I assume they will optimize it in the near future (like they did with Drakkar) because its not clear if we kill them all in a certain order or what to do exactly. I see shields, and portals, helo's blasting us, their picking eachother up, you got me in here pressing all these crazy buttons no YOU can have a coke lol. WHAT is going on?!

Ideally you have several commanders splitting the sections up between them - I believe that was the idea. But no one does it like that, because people want as much participation as possible in all on-going events in order to get the most loot out of the whole meta. For that reason, commanders port from event to event even before the previous one is finished, tag as many enemies as possible and let the randoms finish it while they hop on to the next, then port back later to loot the spawned chest etc.

It's a constant, hectic portfest, and often you arrive too late to tag the champion to whom the squad has ported, or you arrive the second the commander is done and ports to the next event. The tons of visual noise all those events produce only increases the feeling of severe stress and I often end up downright exhausted and with a headache after each meta cycle.

@coso.9173 said:Loved the map and episode. My only issue is that the story seems too short, as usual... I wish story was at least double in length.

I feel the exact same way. The story is too short even with the open world bits padding it out. Which has been the direction since HoT, I feel. Too short and probably too focused on dialogue rather than on action. Although I don't mind that focus so much here as the map is so action packed.

It's good, it's a nice map with a fun meta, very glad to see ArenaNet giving a guaranteed way to get the new skins in game again, I love the legion backpacks and charr helms especially.

Not so sure about the tengu weapons, they don't fit the region, I thought the tengu might have for into the story somehow but instead it feels like you've given us their tier 3 racial weapons for no particular reason. I'm not complaining about the fact that there are two sets of weapons in an episode, just that the tengu weapons don't feel like they fit the episode.

I'm going to hold off making the Stormcaller weapons until I see what they can be upgraded to, I don't want them to take up space in my bags but if the tengu weapons and the Stormcaller weapons were account bound like the Boreal weapons then I'd probably have made them already.

The story is awful. Telling me what my character feels about a turn of events, such as destroying the R&D bunker, means less of a connection with my character for me in all content now. Preachy, amateurish, garbage.

The map is beautiful, and I love the increased potency of the mobs as groups.

After some extensive playtime on the map:

Yes episode was short.

The participation system is flawed. It highly favors staying close to base and only run Supply Bulls. On regular events (defend, capture etc) I struggle to get to 100% participation before the meta begins (from start to finish) But... half hour running both bulls from base gave me 170%Ehhh what??!

Siege is clutter in my oppinion. The only usable is the flame ram to get doors down. The others are useless and not comparable with WvW.Balista: utterly useless, set one up to get that sniper up high that kept hitting me... NO go... Balista should be able to kill those but runs into the same stupid rule that enemy will insta-heal back to 100 due to different elevations...Seriously, take that rule out, or take the snipers out. I prefer the first because the sniper idea is cool. But allow us a PROPER counter.

Special missions, seriously 40 (!!) achievements that give ZERO points? WOW... Yeah they give commendations, but the list of achievements with all unlocked was just RIDICULOUSLY long. Overkill for sure. Scroll through to find that 1 achievement... can I get compensation of overly use of scroll wheel? hehehe

I hope that experiment goes into the bin for next episode, but considering I suspect an expansion of current map, I fear the worse.

The thing is, overal I love the map and the meta, and would love to see more of this, but please consider the above. Implementing siege is one thing, but make it at least usable?

Anything positive?Love the action. The map itself is great. Its also a good balance to not TOO challenging to find your way, or too simple to get bored quickly. The meta is nice, and the variety of events (not simply kill this kill that) is also very welcome.

Very nice addition - especially the short story - well done. Definitely a replayable map unlike Bjora MarchesIt's good to know what is going on around the map but do the announcements have to dominate the screen?Speech bubbles - is there a way of turning these off? They always pop up at the most annoying moments.Participation % needs a bit of work.Special missions - nice idea but can we get a filter for achievements?Siege weapons seem a bit redundant and you're very vulnerable whilst using them - just EMP the gate and everything insideEssence - does anyone use these? Can we get an auto-loot with large radius or make them like the Necro's lifeforce?Edit - Can you make the Dominion cache keeper icon larger and more distinctive?

Have liked the foes in the maps: They gather together they use emotes and some are even launching taunts or escorting supply caravans. But the story is meh. The commander is a war veteran, killed ton of innocent during the second half of personal story with bad choices. Killing several pact airships with hot, sacrificing troops against kralkatorrik.... and seeing 4 iron solders executed "shock" us? Who is that commander... Smodur is right, peoples are a resources used to create other resources like weapons and ammunition. Everything is permitted during total war. Would be another waste to kill Smodur, the only one with right mind in next episode. Flame imperator is also to me soft, Gaheron would be there....

Honestly, this is the most awful thing Anet has ever released. Some of us have paid very good money for this game, and we expect you to actually finish a product before you release it. If you can't do voice acting because of COVID, move your studio to a state that is more business friendly and make it happen. Then again, can't really expect you to release anything worthwhile, or even finished considering WvW hasn't been touched in eons. I'm just about over this game and everything about it. Releasing partially completed content is completely useless and you might as well just not release anything at that point.

agreed.

It gives you 10% participation points increase for every finished event you participated/tagged regardless how long the event took and how much you "really" participated (as long as you participated above a minimum threshold). So if players want to max participation fast, they have to jump in the map from event to event and also jump back to the base to also tag the dolyak escort events. This does not feel like a good system. It rewards players that tag events and jump across the map but not players that stay on their side/lane and help their event/(story-telling)-chain to progress.

This also means, that for players, that come into a map that has already progressed further in the event chain, it will be very hard to reach the maximum participation bonus/loot before the last map-phase starts and the whole participation system gets deactivated.

The good thing is: With maxed out participation you get more/better chests, but it doesn't feel that much more. So it doesn't feel (at least for me) that I miss much, if I dont't have maxed participation.

There is one thing that keeps bugging me though...The messages that appear in center screen, They are WAY too much in this map. It is borderline SPAMMING.

Sometimes I get like 20 within 5 minutes. The immersiveness is wasted that way. It is too much....So please... Stop spamming us.

Or at least give us an option to disable those annoying messages.

While I wrote this messages, standing at base camp in Drizzlewood, I got 17SEVENTEEN!!!!

I haven't visited the map since I finished with all its achievements, which has been over a week. I think that says a lot about how well I perceived the meta overall in hindsight. ;) I like the first third of it, but then it gets repetitive and boring and you just want to skip to looting the cache keeper chests.

  • The final fight with the tank, the porting and the chopper is so silly and annoying - it feels like the meta is being artifically dragged on.
  • The port and the lighthouse areas are ugly, therefore unenjoyable to visit and look at.
  • Many events occur repeatedly and feel recycled.

There is nothing fun about the meta other than its rewards. I prefer doing the HoT metas for loot instead, to be honest.

The worst part is that they overlap with NPC dialogue/interaction windows.

Jormag was established to be right next to bitterfrost frontier as per season 3 dialogue. There has been no indication or reason it moved.

Only one question:Why?

Have yo checked in Option>Sound (or is it called Audio)? There you can control effects sound and other settings which might need to be toned down a bit, if that is too much for you. (Same if you don't want to hear music playing in the background or need higher audio for dialogues).
