How would you redesign the elementalist?

Problem is Ele is supposed to be a versatile class, a jack of all trades, adapting to situations through attunements. And yet most of the traits are designed for a specific attunement, so you lose like half of your functionalities anytime you switch. Moreover, as mentioned, weapon sets are all a mix of everything, so you can never maximize one's true potential. I don't know, maybe the simplest way to rework would be allowing the traits to linger 2 or 3s after you switch elements? But the real issue lies at a core design level. You can't have a pure celestial class with specialized traitlines that only work for some situational skills on hybrid weapon sets. Ideally, each traitline should have the option for speccing power-condi-support/survivability in a meaningful way that isn't tied to a specific attunement. This way you can effectively be a jack of all trades, or a specialist. I've lost hope though.
