EU servers a catastrophe

Sure. That's why people from all across Europe are experiencing the same skill and action delays on a map at the exact same moments.

This is definitely a server-side issue and needs to be taken care of pronto.

It's getting ridiculous. Full AB meta map doing tarnished traitor - no skill lag, just fps drop. Early morning EU Dragonfall - 3 people doing escort to the camps - lag spikes 3+ seconds, if I'm not playing something tanky - dead. My internet is absolutely stable, tested connection to German servers on speedtest - ping 49ms, stop ignoring this issue - it's a server side problem.

you do realize that AWS peering at Frankfurt is fatter than PLs, UKs, SKs overall peering?

I bet it is not AWS nor Frankfurt. My money is on ISP overselling bandwidht (which they all did) now biting them in the kitten hard.

MY employer does sell online courses. Before COVID hit, no problems at all. But the moment everyone started to work from home, customers were lagging out and disconnecting all the time.

Maybe, just MAYBE it isn't ANET's or Amazon's fault?

My bet is, its Anet fault.

When I revisited several S4 maps for the collections for Vision, a lot of this maps were often laggy with lag spike of several seconds. And according to the map chat, lots other players experienced the same on the maps at the same time. When I switched to core maps, I had no noticiable lag. When I jumped back to S4 maps, it was again laggy. When I ran the tool "WinMTR" to the IP of the map at the same time I had a clean path without any packet loss or unusal delay on the way.

I do not say that all S4 maps have large lag all the time. But in my experience there was a lot of lag for long durations in S4 maps but not so much in other maps.

My guess is: Anet broke the servers/systems/software for the S4 maps or put these map-systems on cheaper Amazon servers that do not have enough ressource to handle the task and that did not scale well.

I've had the issue several days ago. Not to mention several disconnects on the new map yesterday.

Why can't we get an official response on this? Are they even looking into it? One can only hope.

Who knows. Perhaps it's related to some backend work related to the expansion. Such things have occurred before during development, but at least the told us about it.

I can live with the lag spikes, but it's the complete lack of response or acknowledgement that does my head in. Communication is the easiest thing in the World to get right, yet it is repeatedly a problem for so many companies - incl Anet.

opening a ticket i was told they can't fix it yet just offer work arounds, and by posting a request to network admins here on the forum they should eventually fix it. as far as the testing i've done on my end everything goes smoothly up to the Amazon node in ITALY then from there to the main server things get lost/can't be traced. It's helped forcing the game to use HTTPS the ip that my games connects to in maps is different and the "lag" is almost fixed.

I am not saying its anyones fault. If this is anything like the hosting of my previous work it could be that Anet buys specific CPU/Memory each month, and this is not enough for the game to be smooth all the time everywhere. It is however good enough for Anet. And Amazon will not scale up for free if they see performance issues, they will probably report to Anet but scaling up can cost a lot of money.

What I do know is that it is not my ISP...

How do you do that?

Hey ashantara, theres a good explanation in the wiki -- https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Command_line_arguments

but basically make a new shortcut to gw2 and add this argument

-clientport 443

As they say in the wiki this CAN cause issues with some ISP but in my case it made the game connect me to a different AWS node (it gave PoF maps a different connection ip) and it helped a LOT LOT with the lag.

Well me and a friend both tried that, and that changed nothing to the issue. Still horrendous lags. Its scandalous, nothing less, to have such matters last for so long with NO answer from the staff on the subject. Unacceptable.

Hey mate, i'm with you, lucky it seamed to help (not resolve) but help on my end, i have a forum post that the ticket support asked me to make so that the network engineers can look into the situation (for some reason ticket support can't speak to the network admins directly but they needed me to make a forum post to do it) but hopefully they will get to it soon. its about the 3rd week since i've been dealing with this issue, its killing the game for me, as i've done all pre PoF content but PoF its so often laggy for me that i don't want to play. a pity that they haven't resolved it already.

443 is the port for all default HTTPS interactions. It should never be used for other protocols and especially not for video games. This is a terrible solution. From my understanding Ashantara.8731 did not redirect all requests to HTTPS, only the required server IP.

In any case, this should not be resolved by workarounds by players. This is something that ArenaNet should make a priority of. I would gladly having the next living world episode delayed by several weeks if it means having this hell resolved. LS4 maps are awful but TP lag is downright unbearable.

My motherboard died last week, so I had to order new hardware (mainboard, CPU, RAM). I bought a SSD along with it. Maps now load within 1-2 seconds, textures are immediately present (the network adapter is 2.5G and my internet is decently fast).

However, when I go farm Quartz Crystals in PoF or do daily bounties, I still experience the occasional skill/action delay of several seconds that everyone else is talking about, and I am also receiving the login issue pop-up frequently. So it's definitely not a client-sided issue, and I am glad that ANet has acknowledged it. Let's hope they can fix it eventually.

P.S. I haven't played WvW in weeks, but will soon as I am curious to see the current state of the lag issue.
