Sword 3 is litterally copy pasted on the soul-beast for their smokescale merge abilities. (Smoke assault ) and its instant and has no wind up, does comparable damage if NOT better than Rev sword 3. Plus theirs for some reason seems WAAAAAY more reliable than ours as they essentially never have the issues that I have where not only does it bounce you all over the place, but it targets random stuff too. (Sentry points in wvw)

I just want block back on Sword 4, Like really giving us a mobile block isn't that much to ask for. EVERY OTHER HEAVY CLASS HAS ONE. In the case of warrior they have 3, Sword off-hand, mace main hand and shield. Guardian has 2 in both shield AND in focus and we have one which is limited too staff; Sword having block on its off-hand made it a stronger off-hand weapon. Or heck give it to Axe as its worthless in pvp/wvw now due to it doing no damage, our ONE good off-hand if you''re roaming is sword. Shield and axe are hot-garbage.

On the bright-side though, shortbow is better than hammer so if we go renegade we have a solid ranged weapon. The legend utilities might be hot garbage on kalla for WvW but jalis+Shiro or Mallyx + jalis or shiro might make it comparable to herald maybe? I dunno its begining to feel like we need a few more core weapons, because it feels like kitten that we have weapons that REALLY JUST AREN'T WORTH HAVING. Its one thing for warrior have a few that are ehhh because they have so many, but rev only has a few as is. And for so many of that few to be trash makes it like "You either run this, or you dont run." Granted Axe is good on a condi-build .... wait no its not nevermind because the damage has been removed. NEVERMIND. Sword offhand for damage even for condi is now better in competitive for condi dps, than the CONDI OFFHAND..

Rework some of these freak'n weapons.... by the spirits.

As someone who is currently playing both classes, soulbeast AND power rev I can tell you that your comparison on sword 3 vs smoke assault is wrong. Ranger's one (my soulbeast is full glass, berserker with eagle runes) is used more as an evade, to track a target, and force a dodge to set up a big attack after it ends.

Revenants sword 3 can straight up kill someone if they eat the full chain. Combine that with the fact that they can stack impossible odds, legend swap damage during the port, shiro heal, and gaze of darkness.. you can see why they are different.

As for sword offhand it does amazing damage, mobility, a poke with great burst.. you need to change your thinking on it.. view it more similar to a greatsword axe/shield warrior with better burst and lower sustained damage. Block may not be on SW/SW but it's on staff. If your swaps on cooldown you can use Shiro evade or trait for quickness on legend swap + sword 3 - many other options too. I'm still mastering power rev and am now getting better each day the more study I put into it. All these complaints you have really are just a matter of time and study. When I get more proficient I'll make a guide if you're interested.

Or, hear me out... I can drop the class and move on. I barely get on my rev anymore; As I can't be bothered to care once so ever. My warrior and ranger can out-preform it most of the time, and I have little issue killing rev's as they are really not that "Great" of a class. They have tools, they have some options but other classes simply do it better and Im tired of pretending that my rev is anything but a faded fragment of what it had been. A lot of the stuff I found fun on it has been stripped, we likely will not get a legend this upcoming expansion that I will like and frankly I am not going to change my view on a class that was sold to me as X and now is Y. They changed it, its time to move on and go back to whats tried and true.

Funnily enough I run warrior Axe/Axe + Greatsword with greatsword being my mobility weapon; And It normally can clap a power rev, heck rev's in general are just food for me at this point. Core ranger has been doing well too, Revenant will likely get nerfed again due to the QQ on the forums so Im not holding my breath as the class is seen with disdain and dislike from most of the community.

Rev isn't a class for everyone, and power rev is definitely a class with a very high ceiling. The more I delve into it the more I can see how it has the tools to literally beat almost anything. It's interesting that we're discussing this in comparison to soulbeast and warrior. Not even 30 minutes ago I 1v2'd a soulbeast and spellbreaker with my rev, also fought a soulbeast near a camp who plays it very similarly to my own playstyle. He tried to swoop out and use greatsword in conjunction with occasionally 180 turn and longbow pushback to create distance.. still couldn't out pace my rev with sword offhand and Shiro port. Took maybe a good 9000-12000 in game distance but he could neither shake my power rev nor ultimately escape. I've fought the power core ranger also but to be honest I find it more of a meme. In duels with competent players soulbeast outperforms it by far.

I have to agree with you that 99% of the time I fight power revs I literally destroy them. Then I come across the one individual who plays it to it's full potential, poking, knowing how and when to burst, kiting, using staff and finishing you just in that moment when your CDs are down. That's what initially inspired me to explore the class as well.

The disdain for rev is the same shared by any roamer. The community hates thief, Mesmer, rev, soulbeast, and previously warrior was on that list until anet butchered it's traitlines, might gain, and sustain. People hate losing and what kills them most are classes built to take out their silly bunker/bruiser elementalists and other low ceiling builds. I wouldn't pay too much attention to the negativity on the forums.. if you feel that someone is starting this kitten that rev or other class is OP, we should hold them accountable and demand that they post a video of them playing that OP class and dominating in a decent rank. I've personally had people who complain X class is OP and then fought them in game, who I honestly believe they struggle with PvE mobs in Tyria. You can't base class balance on these peoples opinions.

But yet that is exactly how A-net balances their game. Rev is gonna get nerfs and honestly everytime they nerf or change something they shave a part of the class away; I've seen time and again how its become a literal clone of the Demon Hunter from WoW. It was not always that but now it feels and places like a much LESS well-designed version of what blizzard created; Which is sad because the incarnation of Demon Hunter that exists in WoW released after HoT which means that it likely borrowed some things from Rev. I still play; As much as it frustrates me to be judged based on my class choice and as much as I hate being bad-mouthed and told to well... rope.. ceiling you get the gist. (Cant say it because Ill be bopped with the "Sensitivity Bat") I want my class to feel fun again, and it doesn't really and its not that its not for everyone as this class is and HAS been my class for years. But Im tired of luke-warm balance decisions from someone and people I assume don't play their game in any respectable form once so ever, and expecting me to swallow some of the nerfs that went around. Because we all know how this song and dances goes; We are just gonna have em sold back to us in the new shiny E-specs... anything removed from your class is likely going toward that. .. Rather than them innovating something completely fresh and new. They Did this between HoT and PoF and here they are doing it again.... this is 100% the reason why "New Class > E-spec" because with a new class its NEW and its on an island onto itself, where as with Specs they have to "make room" for the spec. Which means some cool things your class once did undaunted by spec no longer function, and are completely worthless until a year or more from now we get the new toys. (If there is even any in this expansion...)

I completely agree with that. Lately balance decisions and changes have been made primarily on how much people can complain in the forums, it's also why I think that as a community we need to hold people accountable for their claims because of how damaging they are. Every class in this game is a shadow of what it used to be, the game has been drastically slowed down to cater to people of less skill, build choices have been reduced forcing players into a select handful of useful traits or lines per class, and this has resulted in a flow to classes that has been severely broken and impacted.

Revenant is a good example of that, I know the version of it I'm playing now is nothing compared to the way it flowed before; Shiro legend for example has its energy costs so high that using a skill or two makes it so you have to twiddle your thumbs for a couple seconds waiting to be able to do something next. This was done primarily to cater to bad, low reactive/experienced/knowledgeable players. I'm not sure what Anets vision was in backing the low end of the PvP (WvW and sPvP) spectrum, but the outcome of whine threads and complaints is just as rampant as before the major overhaul back in January of this year.

To make matters worse, with the lack of high end competitor based events and a dwindling population in PvP, it's difficult for anet now to make decisions based on advice of top players. As a community we know who some of these players are, like Sindrener for example, but they can't base it on rank because of match manipulation and other factors.

People in platinum are given a voice in balance who feel that they are skilled and competent in PvP. I kitten you not, as someone with NO RANK (I don't touch sPvP anymore, I'm a WvW roamer), I went into the duel arena and 1v2'd two platinum badge players defeating them both 3 times until they rage quit, one of which was supposed to hard counter my mesmer (which I hadn't played in over 6 months) with thief. This skill level of player going back a couple years ago would be at most a high silver. There's a player, ----o (can't name them), who demands profession breaking nerfs to all classes but his own and claims credibility to this based on possession of a platinum badge in recent months. If we were in the developers position and didn't play competitive modes or have players on the payroll who did at competent levels, I wouldn't know how to balance to except on the community opinion (but that's me), unfortunately the ones that make the most noise are dictating our direction.

Sorry for the wall of text, but everything you wrote definitely impacts me too, so I can understand the frustration as well.

Sorry for the wall of text, but everything you wrote definitely impacts me too, so I can understand the frustration as well.

No need to apologize my friend, Im glad someone else is passionate. The state of competitive in general is luke-warm and honestly I had more fun prior to the balance patch; And at the time I was looking forward to the shakeup. But I had no Idea this would be the outcome, slowly I've been going out less and less in WvW even because I see specific classes and I know in the back of my mind "I dont have the ability to deal with this, on my class because those abilities were nerfed into oblivion or simply dont exist any longer." Or I run into the same guy who is HACKING and we know he is hacking because he phases through the floor, becomes invulnerable on a thief and strikes me for so much damage my combat log can't keep up. (Doesn't even show he hit me at all.) Which I know isn't the case because I've played thief and I have friends who are thieves and we all tried to replicate it, and even in a perfect scenario running full burst we just couldn't strike that hard. (To drop someone running decent vitality in marauder or the tanky sets.)

Part of me honestly believes, and I know this is bad that the intention was to cull so much of the game modes pop that they could come out and justify not working on it. That or CmC honestly believes this is a good direction, a fun direction and honestly yes we had unbalanced things before. But they were fun to fight, fun to play and in my eyes that too me is more balanced than numbers. A skill-full player can as long as provided the tools make anything shine, and make anything glow with the idea of "OP" to those of lesser skill. Some builds can be problematic (The full bunker, wont die builds... who just shrug off the damage and somehow can burst.) But I mean Im a tank player from other games, I like bruiser/tanky builds. (Just not the bunkers) I feel like this balance is the worst its ever been, Ill go as far as to say the game feels so bad that Id take them re-rolling us to core and removing EVERYTHING the expansions gave if that meant the game could be fun again.

because its not, and sadly I was getting back into the game prior to the balance patch. Now I Feel like im heading right back out that door... because the fun just ain't there. I appreciate you and this talk was enjoyable; Insight and experiences on your end made me think and re-evaluate my rev and while I think its crap compared to what he was I do see the potential time and again.... I guess we shall see where our paths lead.

Honestly this isn't a sword problem it's a Rev weapon option problem and imo always has been.

Rev is by far the only Profession which has the least amount of workable loadouts.1 Utility weapon, 1 viable Power set, 1 viable Condi set, and a bunch of 2 handeds which either suck badly or perform decently at most depending on situation.

Other jobs at least have a few one handeds which have a main hand and offhand options, but Rev only has Sword usable in both main and off.

But at least their weapon skills still do nice damage right?Wrong, because if any of these get nerfed, both in pve and pvp, we have literally nothing to fall back on.

If say, Ranger LB got nerfed, they still have Axe as a viable ranged option. If Guardian Sword got nerfed, they have options like LB, Sceptre, GS which are all great for doing damage.

If Rev Swords get nerfed, what do they have left?Staff is already bad, Shortbow is at most decent for Power damage, and let's not even talk about Hammer for DPSing anywhere other than in wvw.

Oh right no, we have Shield, so we can sit in our sad bubble and cry.
