Returning after years! New Mesmer!

Hey, everyone. I played Guild Wars 2 seven years ago, getting a Thief and a Warrior up to level 80 and even managing full Ascended gear on my Thief (my favorite class at the time). I took a hiatus shortly afterwards, and now I am interested in returning.

All of the changes over the past years look difficult to follow, but not impossible. I've gained a huge interest in Mesmer, specifically the Chronomancer for PvE content. However, reading the recent threads about the class, some individuals seem dissatisfied with recent changes to the class. Am I shooting myself in the foot by this decision? I saw a poster mention that Mesmers have a hard time getting into Fractals (I never did them when I played, but would like to now). Is this true?

Any and all opinions on this will be greatly appreciated. I read all input, but I apologize in advance if I don't respond promptly. Thank you.

1) Mesmer is one of the best classes for open world and raids.2) Mesmer is one of the worst classes (but it's definitely usable) for LFG fractals, but it's okay for statics. Still not the best.

I'd say make a mesmer and some fractal meta class, gear the other class for fractals, then gear your mesmer for raids. That way you can play 2 out of 3 big pve game modes with mesmer at least.

I personally think it's more important which professions / elite specialisations you enjoy more than the rest, rather than how viable one profession is.After all, a game should, first and foremost, be fun.If you like Chronomancer, roll with it. If you don't like it, choose something else. If, for some reason, viability is more important to you than fun, Guardian would be your best choice.

Definitely, and I'm enjoying Mesmer so far. Already used the level 80 boost on him. We'll see how well I manage to do in group content since I can barely play the class efficiently fighting bandits, lmao.
