Returning player question about weapon skills

Good morning all,I am a returning player, after a long, long while and I have a quick question. As far as weapons, I remember that we used to have to equip every weapon and use them to unlock all the skills available to a class. Do we still need to do this, or are all skills already available?

No and no.

Weapon skill slots are now unlocked as you level up. You start with 1 unlocked and get slot 2 at level 2, slot 3 at level 4 and slot 5 at level 8. Once you have a weapon skill slot unlocked you'll instantly have access to that skill on any weapon you equip, so basically once you're level 8 all your weapon skills are unlocked. (And getting to level 8 is very quick.)

They will still show as greyed out in the build menu until you've equipped that weapon, and when you do you'll get notifications on screen for each skill you unlock but that doesn't really do anything (except maybe act as a reminder of which weapons you've never equipped).
