I have the perception that I have not been placed in the correct division. I often lose in 1 vs 1; and my team is always forced to carry me.is it a widespread problem? or is it just my impression?

What's happening is that population is lower in 2020 and the match maker is forced to put many different types of skill levels into the same match together. Aside from what you may hear, you don't really get to be in and with the correct divisional players for your division anymore. The way it is now can be accurately summed up by saying that: "We all play in the legend division now."

In other words, we get matches nowadays that look like: RED p3/p3 p1 g3 g1 vs. BLUE p2/p2 p1 g3 g2 with middle tiers looking like RED p1 g3 g2 g 2 s3 vs. p1 g3 g2 g1 s3. So it sounds to me you're probably relatively new and experiencing the 1v1s against bottom plat players, and experiencing the bottom plat players on your team trying to carry as hard as they can. This is just the way it is in 2020.

If you won a lot of games after placements it can put you in higher divisions

It is also possible to be put into a match to balance out higher rated players, to bring a team's avg rating down, or just to give yourself or them a game after waiting 5+ minutes. It can also explain why you feel like you're getting carried.
