Junkpile.7439
When you don't zerg. Just figured it out. I was looking data and zerging days are like 10-15 ranks/day and some random "roaming" with mesmer i get like 1-2 ranks. Weird thing is that sometimes you get same amount wxp even if you kill like 4 times less players. B)

B)Kill WXP is based on how long the enemy has lived (and maybe their kills unsure if it takes that into account) ie you get very little for repeatedly wiping enemies. When you zerg, the sheer amount of kills outweigh it though.
SoftFootpaws.9134
I only managed to make Bronze on roaming even after 6-7 years on a bad computer that couldn't handle zerging. Once I could play in zergs I was Silver within half a year of only playing WvW for 1-2 days a week, which is considered low investment.I'm not convinced its possible to seriously rank up with roaming even if you play 24/7.The problem occurs because GW2 doesn't divide up the XP from kills like other games do. Usually a game will distribute the XP to all players who participated in the kill, plus a group bonus to encourage partying. Because this doesn't happen here, its possible to get massive XP from zerg play, and there's no reduction even if you add a hundred players all poking the same target.(Besides, you know, a reduction of the target's physical existence.) gloflop.3510
It coincides with my observation: You get more WXP with blob-playing than with roaming. It also makes sense when I consider how long it sometimes takes me to find an enemy and kill him/her. On the other side, if I am part of a successful blob vs. blob fight, I will get many kills in a short period of time.
Virdo.1540
imo leveling up is way to quick. even when roaming alone
KrHome.1920
Kill the door guards of each structure you pass, when you roam. You will get the xp for the capture event later when the zerg captures it as long as you stay on the map. The xp from kills aren't that high. Most comes from capturing stuff. (Reference: I am rank 6000 and I never zerg.)
Only Even.6193
May be true in your case but I get far more Wxp by roaming alone and flipping camps/sentinels and kill every Event Veterans, It's about 30min/level to 15min depending on how many players will interrupt my flipping rotations.I figured that killing players is a waste of time XP wise compared to farming objectives, too inconsistent, and that's why Edge of the Mist was the best option to level your Rank, but since the character Xp (people used to level their new toon there) were nerfed, and the introduction of skirmish tickets exclusive to WvW, Eotm is a dead game mode.Kittens, I loved these Karma trains so much memories =/.
