Having to purchase new runes/sigils from future releases aside, isn't it possible to freely swap upgrades from Legendary weapons/armor? If so, barring some major shifts in the meta or radical overhauls of upgrades, you could just buy a set of the current meta upgrades and just swap them in and out of your armor (using Equipment Templates) for a much cheaper cost than making the Legendary upgrades.

Yes you can freely extract runes with legendary weapons and armor that's the downfall of Legendary runes and sigils, If you have the armor/weapons they become pretty pointless. They're a miniscule convenience for around 6,000+ gold. It's a much better option to just buy a bank slot and keep your favorite runes in there when your not running them.

Best make another rune for your underwater breather then mate.

... and 4 more sigils for the underwater weapons. Then they announce legendary infusions... and legendary bags...

Underwater combat isn't balanced enough to make a lick of difference. Krait Sigils will do just fine since 70% of your build doesn't work for underwater combat.

If you don't have legendary armor on characters that never need to stat swap no matter what build they use (a majority of the classes), legendary runes are perfect for them. They too can extract themselves from any gear for free.

Better to not have to think about a what-if in the meta that might never happen by just knowing you'll be ready instantly.

Overall saying they're a miniscule convenience is just as much a miniscule difference between legendary and ascended armor. Everything you have to counter the player that says legendary equipment isn't worth it, I can use against every argument someone has against the runes and sigils.

I know some people who are working on legendary runes and sigils because they like to design builds instead of simply copying ones other people have already designed. To enable that they want quick access to all the possibilities, not just the most popular ones, so they can try out different things and see if they can invent something new which is even better than the current meta. Or so they can make highly specialist builds which will likely never make it into the meta because unless you have full legendary equipment or a ton of spare upgrades it's impractical (and even then I think all the swapping would be annoying). For example I know one person who has a different build for each individual raid boss, plus a couple for running between bosses.

Even then I think it would take a long time to actually break even compared to making/buying whatever you need when you need it. But I think for people like that it's like infinite gathering tools; the ease of use in always having whatever you want available instantly outweighs the cost.

I am more focused on getting certain legendaries so when the armory comes out that I have my toons equipped. Although I am a little confused by mixing the Legendary Armory in with Icebrood Saga. Those masteries/achievements will likely yield some kind of Legendary item at the end of the Saga, but I don’t think it will have to do with the Armory, unless that’s how they are going to allow you to unlock it for use.

This. Every time I consider trying a new build I don't have to spend 15G to try it and then have to swap back. Trying new builds is what helps develop a meta. Hopefully the legendary armory will make it even more possible to actually try out combinations people never thought of without an indefinite cost.

I answered "Yes, I'm spending more time farming relevant achievements/masteries" because there is no better matching answer, but the correct answer would be "Yes, but I'm NOT spending more time farming relevant achievements/masteries"

I never cared about legendary items in the past because I have more than enough ascended stuff for my main chars and for my other chars I have more than enough exotics. And if needed, I could stat swap ascended gear (or just buy new trinkets with S3/s4 map currency, or gear with raid currency etc etc.). I do not care about the skins and effects of legendary gear.

After the announcement of the the legendary armory I checked the requirements for legendaries and found out that I already could build two sets of legendary armor and some legendary trinkets from what I already collected over the years. So I build them.

I do not collect more, but items/currency/mats I collect during my normal play style and that may can be used for legendary items are stored (and not sold anymore or used for other things). I guess, at the time when the legendary armory (if it ever comes) comes into the game, I will be able to build a 3rd set of legendary armor and the last, missing trinket. But I do not farm for it.

With the freedom of easy stat/infusion/upgrade swapping with legendary gear my playstyle has changed a little. I experiment now more with my build.

If the legendary armory comes, I hope to be able to use the legendary gear easily with other characters. If the legendary armory doesn't come, I'll still take advantage of the legendary gear I already have.

And if it ever does arrive, I expect a monetised train wreck at least as bad as the (so called) Build Templates.

Actually, it's already there and you said it yourself. The Armoury already ties directly into the templates. The measured releases and sequence make this appear as if they were already tied together. Create a template system, sell extra slots and then introduce the and this is why you want it part of the arrangement. They just introduced the gem store component prior to reason for it. From a business model it makes sense.

I hope not, if you think about it, legendaries are already heavily monetized because of how expensive they are, I think right now, so many people exchange gems for gold that the ratio is really low. There's also some monetization around crafting them: a smart person will keep an extra character slot for going the relevant explorations for another set once they're out of Maguuma/desert/world exploration masteries.

Also the gear templates themselves are a form of monetization: if they do it right, then people will be buying extra gear templates on characters to easily access a given stat combo.

Really, this would make me say "screw you anet" and be done with gw2 forever. I actually liked build and gear templates because they actually gave people more freedom in how to use the 3 implicit templates we had and essentially gave each character more gear storage.

How does "no, my play habits are unchanged" not match what you're saying here? It sounds like you did a one-time thing and more or less you're just doing the same thing.

Can only speak for myself, never used the build templates, until I finished off my Legendary armor set even though I had made spare Ascended sets. Now that I have one Legendary set of each weight class, yes the templates look more interesting than they did, especially when out in WvW and you need to switch roles in your group before starting a fight. So..yeah they either got really lucky, or someone mapped this out in advance, again it fits a good business case.

"more or less doing the same" does not mean "unchanged" but means "changed a little" (as I already wrote). And even a one time change is a change.

Instead of just presenting the "yes" and "no" answers to the question, you added a sub-case of play habits ("farming relevant achievements/masteries") to the "yes" answer because you probably did not consider that there are other play habits that could be changed/affected. Or maybe you wanted to ask if the "farming habits" of players have changed (but you did not ask that)?

I'm MORE likely to spend more time grinding Legendary gear if I know that I can use it across multiple characters without dealing with unequipping/equipping it all.

I might actually have reason to craft Legendary Runes and Sigils, which I currently feel zero incentive to do given that I just purchased an Endless Extraction Tool contract as it was cheaper.
