What I should do after boost lvl 80 in my first character?

GW2 is designed so the main thing which determines what you can achieve is your skill as a player, rather than your character's level or what equipment they're using or whatever. That means it's important to understand the game and your character before attempting harder content like the expansions (which are designed for people who have completed a lot of the base game content).

Which means including the level 80 boost when you buy the game is a bit misleading because it's almost always a bad idea to use it right away.

The best way to learn the game is actually to start from level 1, going around the low level maps which are designed to introduce you to how the game works and the combat mechanics, and follow your personal story. You can do all that on a level 80 character if you want to, your character will be automatically scaled down to match the level of the area you're in (this only affects stats, you'll still have all your skills and traits) and you'll get XP and items appropriate for your level. But I recommend doing it on a new character for two reasons:1) As they level up you'll gradually unlock new skills and traits which makes it easier to learn how they work and see them in action2) Each level you get a pop-up with some useful items but more importantly with information about different parts of the game and how they work.

Also don't worry that this will mean playing for hundreds of hours in dead maps. Levelling up in this game is quite fast (and there's free ways to speed it up if you want to) and it's designed so that there's plenty of reasons for higher level characters to return to low level maps, which keeps them populated. (There's also lots of reasons it's useful to have more than one character, which gives players another reason to play on low level maps.)

Yeah, many vets advise against using the boost for new players. The Personal Story, Living Story Season 2 and core maps whilst basic, will give you a broad understanding of the game. Jumping into the expansions - which can be tough for even experienced players in places - is not recommended for new players.

The best thing you can do with it, in my opinion, is doing the first story quest of Path of Fire, that will unlock the raptor mount for all your account.Done that, start another character from scratch so that you can take your time learning your class, the world, explore and do the personal story.Sure, you can do all this with the level 80 character too. If you really want to play that one without doing the regular levelling up, I'd recommend to still start with exploring the core maps, that are much easier than the HoT and PoF ones, in order to get more familiar with the combat, the class, the game itself. :)

Why did you boost your first character? There's no advantage to it. Start from the beginning, which will introduce you to things bit by bit - and unless you don't give a kitten about story, you'll have no idea about who all those people in the stories are if you skip the core game. You're most likely dying because you have no clue about how to play your class, and also won't have ideal gear.

lvl 80 boosts contain full exotic gear, no need for better stuff.

@vegetta.5162 for a start with you lvl 80 character, if you don't want to start from scratch, first of all tell your class so we can suggest soem survival traits/weapons and then from that you can start going more aggressive when you got the movement down. this game has very few unaviodable attacks, so the difference between good and bad movement is bigger than the difference between running full naked or full legendary.map difficulty isstarting zones < most of core tyria < orr < maguuma wastes < PoF < HoT

some mobs can teach you basic movement and timing rather easy without challenging you, for example every fully grown wurm is no big threat but a good dodge coach. you find them a lot in snow, especially frostgorge sound or lornar's pass.also basically every enemy in the silverwastes has a recognizable abusable pattern that is great for learning to move and use your defensive skills and you get hit hard if you don't.

Start playing through the story in chronological order:

  • Personal story
  • Living World Season 2
  • Heart of Thorns
  • Living World Season 3
  • Path of Fire
  • Living World Season 4
  • Living World Season 5

Difficulty will increase promptly with Heart of Thorns, but Season 2 missions can be a good training to get there. Player skill is very important.

In addition, get better equipment. At least exotics; to determine what gear would be best, check in with sites like: https://metabattle.com/

Pfft, have you seen the gear's stats? Not suited for highest damage output. (Also, use with care as you can't remove upgrades from it!)

But in this game having the right stat combination for your build is far more important than the rarity of the items. The boost gear is soldiers (except for necromancers, who get rabid, and thieves who get valkyrie) which helps with your defence, but not to the point where it's easy for a brand new player to survive in HoT (or even PoF) and it does very little to help with your damage, especially if you're using condition based skills. It's not a bad starting set, but getting something more suited to your build and how you play makes a huge difference, even if the amount of stats are the same.
