What is your earliest WvW memory?

And if there was a moment, at what time did you know/decide you were a WvW main?

My earliest memory doubles as the moment I decided to be a WvW main.I can't remember the exact servers that were present, but I do remember a lot of other details.- I had just entered EBG for the first time. I saw two sets of orange swords on the mini map, which at this point I only understood to be Events because I was still quite new to the game. Our server was blue, and I entered the keep from the spawn side moving toward the OJ's that were between Bravost, Umber, and Durios in the vicinity of the Grub. I confidently went up the wall preparing to hop out to participate, but immediately froze when I saw the absolute ocean of red and blue names. It was a 3 way fight between all servers, and as far as I can recall, it must have been map Q's from each side. I was so floored by the scale of this fight I would be talking about it to friends for the next week.I'm pretty sure I died within 30 seconds of joining the fight, but I went back as many times as it took, and I had a total blast. I had never seen anything like that in a video game before (granted, I've only played a dozen or so video games in my life) and was immediately sold on WvW.I still get a little giddy even today when I see huge 3 way fights even if they're often a lagfest. It just never stops being cool to me to see so many players fighting in one place.

How about you guys? I'd love to hear stories, especially from veterans that might remember things I totally forgot about. It would also be interesting to hear the perspectives of new players to learn how a new comer feels with all the things that have changed about WvW over the years.

I remember joining eotm for my first leggy, 6-7 years ago, i think. i needed wvw rank 14. So, with my pve ele, i ktrained for a short while until someone said "join eternal battlegrounds for fights, guys. This is a karmatrain". And join i did.Completely clueless, i shot a meteor on some hostiles on a choke on Dragos Kraal when some weird dorito person typed "THROW EVERYTHING ON THAT CHOKE" (it was PURE reflex, accidental, i didnt even know what to aim for) and killed about 15-20 people. I died about 50 times after that.Got hooked ever since. That particular commander, had answered every dumb question i had.

During headstart I randomly entered WvW spawning in the south west at ~ level 20. When I came across south west camp I found a zerg of people escorting yaks to bay so I joined them. 10 to 15 levels latter I had enough karma to buy my first rare axe from the merchant there. The next day my guild leader said, I see you were busy last night. Apparently I had jumped up our guild's influence enough for more upgrades :)

One of my earliest WvW experiences I remember is being corrected on /map chat by multiple people for linking different spots for callouts instead of using the general NC/SWC/etc. format. I was prob about rank 10 at the time, but it was a constructive sort of thing that I adapted to quickly.

Another was getting sieged for the first time while solo roaming as a noob Ranger, and quickly learning the art of BM. Went to the dark side pretty fast there.

My first exposure to WvW was actually Noble Soul's medic Thief videos, but unfortunately by the time I started playing WvW, the rez system had already changed by then. Way back in the era of Planetside 1, I played a cloaker medic/hacker, so this was my total dream.

Wow, thanks for helping me remember some old memories @"Shroud.2307". . . Memories from Early-Mid 2013 to be more precise.

Believe it or not, my earliest WvW memory dates back to my very first day of experiencing WvW. Although, I should begin with what, or perhaps I should instead say, "who" encouraged me to play WvW. The "who" was a friend of mine whom I had thought, at the time, was focused on PvE. As I would eventually find out, this friend began playing WvW more than I had realized. He chose to ask for my help in WvW despite my complete lack of experience there. I was naturally hesitant at first, feeling as I would not be much help. Then I remembered what the word "friend" meant. As a result, I would soon enter WvW to help him.

Long enough story short, we come to find ourselves engaging in some 1v1s on one of our enemies Alpine Borderlands. My friend was on his Char Warrior, and I was on my Human Mesmer. I had only ever played Mesmer up to this point in the game, and this occasion was the first time I had ever fought other players. I only remember fighting another Mesmer that was on some 1v1 pistol build and a thief. However, I cannot remember what the thief was using, possibly including a short bow, but I am not certain. Yet, I do remember the place we all fought. Our 1v1s took place at the Windmill nearby Alpine's South camp. This event would soon spark my desire for the enemy's digital blood, yet, I would later come to find their emotional pain sweeter.

Additionally, here is a short story on Mesmer illusions during this time. There was a graphical bug that would display a vertical checkboard plane upon illusion death. I do not remember if illusions needed to be shattered or die regularly. I only remember witnessing it in WvW and nowhere else in the game. So, me being a noob then, thought this was a cool effect they gave to the Mesmer in WvW, hahaha . . . Nope. Anyway, I found an old thread here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Mesmer-shatters-a-checkered-square. That is all I have for today, take care.

My earliest memory is sometime within the year after release while I was on Underworld (EU), running around in EBG outside of the green keep as a greatsword/staff Mesmer. Brilliant commander called Nebsie or something along those lines gave me a full set of 18 slot bags since I kept having to derail the zerg to empty my inventory. Took a little break and by the time I came back UW had collapsed, so a friend paid for my transfer and I moved to Eredon Terrace - been there ever since.Always miss Nebs, I wonder if he still plays?

EDIT: Forgot to answer - I first realised I was a WvW main when it was the only gamemode that really got my attention, and it's sort of... All I've ever done, really. Nothing else has really ever captured my enjoyment. The sheer hilarity back in the first years of us all running around like headless chickens with no idea what was really going on will live in my mind forever.

Going out of the spawn alone, - one of the Alpine Borderlands, the blue one, I was not level 80 yet during that time, my engineer with her awesome flame thrower and bombs, started killing the Raptors with her awesome skills (hehe), I remember asking for help and if we need to kill them. There were no answer, so I look around, when out the other exit and had to start killing the Wargs ... ... it was not fun at all, ... I left.

Not for a long time did I try to step into WvW again, this time I choose Eternal Battleground, Green Lowland was our keep, very happy there is a waypoint, took it, went out the front gate. Roam aimlessly into the center castle, The Stonemist! I went onto the wall, pretended to sentry the castle, low and behold! There was a breached ! I went closer and the "repair" action pop up, I hit F, and it prompted me that I needed supply to do so, lucky the supply hut was nearby, I got the supply, I started to repair the wall, "DO NOT REPAIR THE WALL" pop up in the chat window. "Why not?" I asked. there were no answer again, so I continue to repair the breached. After a while, "Some dumbass is wasting supply on the wall" pop up in chat, follow by many LoLs , and "Let's them do it, it is going to upgrade anyway" .So, I asked "how can I upgrade the castle?" no answer again.... that was no fun at all... I left again....

I never return until much later. After I gone to the end of the world, fought the dragons and have "Been there and Done that" thinking I am very well equipped now, I went into the Eternal Battleground, saw a lot of players running together. I followed, the player with the tag, (didn't know it was a commander tag) drop some rams on a gate, I remember I have one of those, a flame ram, wanting to be helpful and trying out new things, I dropped my pretty little flame rams next to the commander's Superior Flame Rams. "NEVER DROP TRASH RAMS in ma squad! " follow by many other chat that I do not remember... and that's was it, I never return to WvW. I was on my Norn Ranger

Believe it or not Ranger was not welcome! was laughed at even, neither was engineer.

I didn't remember when I start WvW again, I am stuck there forever, it has become my fav game mode, I still have my Silver Dolyak finishers.

I believe it was on release me being stuck in the middle lake no clue what to do or where to go, getting killed by random players.

Anyways, after week of GW2 release, I pretty much gave up on the game. Year or two after I came back to the game and my earliest memory in WvW from then is funnily trying to join teamspeak and having no clue how the app works and where to enter the adress and what is the password with google not being any help at all.

First time i entered WvW was when the devs were making crappy decisions and stuffing things bad.One such decision was they remove the "adept training manuals" and other manuals and linked unlocking traits to specific events across pve and wvw events. (some events were bugged for ages)One such event was be-friending the frogs in EBG. So many gankers used to hide around there, farming any pve noobs such as me that came to unlock the trait. It was sad. Some time after that i came for gift of battle and stayed in wvw.

Being forced to go there for map completion and repeatedly being ganked by groups of other players.

Another early memory was trying to complete Obsidian Sanctum and repeatedly being ganked by groups of thieves that would camp there and farm people trying to get the puzzle done.

WvW used to suck so bad back then, most people hated the mode for good reasons lol

Earliest memory is a balancing state that has never been achieved again since then.

Things like high, risk high reward and low risk, low reward existed while even at high risk, high reward build fights you had actually time to make decisions as the pacing wasn't absurdly high because cooldowns did matter.

Not clear on exactly "when" this happened. It was pretty early on though.

I was by a small group near Veloka. There were three of us. One enemy appeared. He was some kind of thief, it might have even been dagger/dagger.

We all died. He just gracefully dipped in and out of stealth, leaving death in his wake.

It was what made me want to get good at WvW.
