Thoughts on DRMs?

  1. E-sports means players competing against other players, not PvE content. Strikes and raids do not qualify for that.
  2. The four new DRMs are pretty good, actually. I think they did everything right this time around, as the first three were super boring.

@Keidnard.9170 said:DRMs should not be hidden in a late game only hub. Bring them accessible from the main capitals somehow (Lion's Arch comes too late for new f2p/tryout players)

That is a very good point. At least strikes have portals in their original maps.Anyway, I have suggested before that there should be an entry hub, interface for all group PVE content. And it should be accessible anywhere in the game. Especially if you want it to appeal to the casual crowd. Now I meet people that have played for a long time and don't know these game modes even exist. Most people do not look for information outside of the game itself.

@Noah Salazar.5430 said:DRM are fine and even fun to do, but because of low rewards that content is usualy skipped by most community.More Intesting rewards culd change that

I think DRMs are a solid foundation for future content and, along with the suggested and more frequent changes, show some promise in the current dev team (see Teapot's recent vid).

They pushed the quality up a notch this patch, and made the missions fairly enjoyable, actually. Snowden Drifts, in particular, actually reminds me of some of the GW1 missions - just, with better mechanics obviously.

If they keep this up then GREAT.

Thunderhead and Field of Ruins took the health sponginess to ludacris levels from my gameplay experience. Also for whatever reason, the Thunderhead boss went invulnerable for nearly ten minutes straight. Likely some progression glitch. I feel like the missions are set up for some future mastery that gives you +1,000% outgoing damage to dragon minions or something.

"Championizing" mere trash and veteran mobs is what kills it for me.

Snowden Drifts CM is too difficult for the average player. Pugs do not seem to have dodge as an "oh shit" skill. You can complete the other 3 CMs even if people fail hard, but Snowden Drifts you cannot. And so I wonder if the design is off. I can see both sides of the debate, but I guess that means people have to get used to failing Snowden Drifts CM.

In the hardcore mindset, the need for reward dictates that ArenaNet should be doing all they can to sate that desire for the raider's "hard work." There is little concept of recompense that I have borne witness to in raid culture. What this means is that any product that isn't
that one
(World of Warcraft, yes) is doomed to bankruptcy. See: WildStar.

Anet is right, "raid economy" hurts the game. first they create a "elite group" aka experienced speed runners, then later, these speed runners just sit themselfs on LFG selling runs. but the Catch-22 of this content kill itself in long-term, so starts complaints about "no ones play its anymore", at same time they still blame pugs for game mode ruin. in WvW we see this sometimes, dudes complaining about game mode dying at same time complain when Anet try attract pugs/casuals to the game mode.

They are not doing a proper job of that. WvW needs to be completely rebuilt. Stop putting hookpoints in vulnerable positions; raise walls so that they are effective; make seige engines immune to plinking by small arms while dramatically increasing their power so as to kill zergs; add incentive to deploy, build, and use seige equipment; beef guard powers immensely; etc, etc. Redesigning the castles etc with real defense in mind is a no-brainer. Every time I am in one now, I grit my teeth at how absurd it is.

Oh - and for the love of god, get rid of targeting circles for seige! So lame.

Not entertaining enough for me to replay over and over again, and the reward structure sucks. Prismaticite isn't a reward, it's a license to spend gold on weapons I don't want. The worst part of it for me is having to do the challenge modes 3 times to get the "top responder" achievements. I do want my stretch emote back, so I'll suffer through it. These kind of achievements used to be "one and done", until the Icebrood Saga. Well, I guess they needed to add a reason to repeat the missions. Game play and rewards certainly aren't cutting it.

Too easy. In solo mode, mobs literally don't do damage, and we can wipe everything just by spamming auto-attack.Sure, I like doing content solo, without waiting for players and trying to open the instance 17 times in a row, because that one person is blind or afk. I think Dragon Boon it's OP for solo mode. I have never seen such bad design in creating difficulty level, because adding damage to the mobs, while bumping our stats isn't a good idea. The worst thing is, people are actually failing DRMs. You want to punish DPS monkeys? Just add a big aoe. Some of them can't dodge.

I am not sure what I think of them right now but it is quite positive. My experience completely changed between the 2 sets

  1. It felt too long, had mobs that had too many boons (stab and aegis oh my god) and took too long to kill, I did not like some of the dialogues (Taimi and Ryland pls stop saying so much nonsense). As a bonus when the player who started it was experiencing connection issues you would get kicked out and lose your progress. Just like when the game came out, yeah!
  2. When the second part came out it felt faster, had a decent challenge on some parts, I liked the map changes, I liked the dialogues way more and experienced less issues.

After this second set and some time I think that DRM (with the CM) are good. They are not filled or as impressive as new maps but I do like them.

  • The small QoL at the start (unlocks the next part once the events are done) changed a lot. It feels so much better!
  • The difficulty does not feel that hard until you played with some random people / builds and you realize that the difficulty is somewhere in the middle. (but it could be a little harder)
  • I thing having some stab avoids the quick stacking with mounts followed by a burst which is a good thing but it also makes some mobs annoying and just dangerous for no reasons sometimes (especially the one who acts like a flamethrower and suddenly has no counter). I am not sure but maybe some stat increase and fewer boons could be the way to go?
  • Gathering people, killing mobs followed by an escort and finally a boss makes you do a lot of different things and while I like having those outside of the open world event, it sometimes feels similar between each DRM. Maybe there could be a few additional mechanics or a different gimmick between each one like a mini jp or areas to capture like those who were added in fractals but instead of agony bubbles you could have a ground with lava.
  • The allies are a fun addition. Some are really strong or fun (I like the charr, the watchknight and the Crystal Bloom ), some could be improved (sylvary hound and Ebon).
  • Edit : I do not know if we still get kicked out if the owner gets dc. If we still do then it should be changed

I liked that it felt like a middle ground difficulty, content using some maps with a heavy emphasis on story. Kind of like… dungeons? It could the closest thing to an alternative.I think the main reason to go there at the start will be unlocking some success (the emote is awesome  ) and then gathering some resources.

Abou the edit answer is no you dont get kicked anymore and you get pushed back by the boarders instead of kicked.

Would be nice if they added so you can rejoin if dc like a dungeon instead of a story instance tho.

I like them as a concept. I think it was a terrible idea to require so much effort for an emote though. One run through the content I can understand. Sure why not. But three? Five?

I don't like that they're adding timers to things, either. If I wanted to play mythic+ in WoW I would be over there.

We need a Deldrimor PvP/WvW reward track!
