Confusion about DRM, Grouping, Communication

Recommended Posts

I am not a fan of the DRM, but I want to be.

I have struggled with the new DRM, specifically grouping and communication and completing the DRM in a timely and efficient manner. I am wondering if perhaps there is something I am missing?

1 - How many players are in my instance? I have had issues identifying how many players are in my instance, if they are fighting, leeching, lost, afk.... Is there an identifier in chat or an option to see how many players are in the same instance as me? When they join and/or leave?2 - How can I see players in my instance on the mini-map? If they aren't in my party, or dead/resurrectable, then I don't see them. Is there a setting to change this?3 - What is the best way to communicate with other players in my instance? So far /s is the only thing that has been responded to, but that has limited range. Should other players see /m or another chat group in the same DRM instance as me?4 - Does the DRM mobs/bosses scale with players in the instance, or players attacking/engaged with the content?

My experience with entering public 5 man DRM solo has been successful in that I completed the content and absolutely frustrating as there is no cohesion with the players in the instance, sometimes resulting in long grindy sessions. I would hope that instanced group content would put players into a situation that allows visibility and communication to streamline the play, perhaps that is a wrong expectation to have?

I am hoping that there are some options or settings I have overlooked that will make this part of DRM easier for me to enjoy.

Private instances need you to form a party so that kind of resolves the issue, but public doesn't unless someone tries to locate everyone and party them up manually. I guess because public is largely unfailable and requires very little cohesion, they never saw a need for it. It would be nice to be able to locate people though or know how big the group is.

/m should work fine. The main obstacle that can happen is that because public groups are for everyone to jump into so you can sometimes be speaking in one language whilst others are speaking in another. It's not a major issue at all, but is often a reason people don't respond

If it’s a public instance then there’s no way of knowing someone is leeching unless you stumble upon them. Players who are active are usually doing the main event and boss so you can count those players and yourself. Those leeching will most likely join at the end to get credit.

2 - How can I see players in my instance on the mini-map? If they aren't in my party, or dead/resurrectable, then I don't see them. Is there a setting to change this?

It has to be a private instance in order for you to see this. There are no indicators in public instances.

3 - What is the best way to communicate with other players in my instance? So far /s is the only thing that has been responded to, but that has limited range. Should other players see /m or another chat group in the same DRM instance as me?

If it’s a public instance, map chat works. If a private instance then party chat.

4 - Does the DRM mobs/bosses scale with players in the instance, or players attacking/engaged with the content?

It should be players in the event area. So if someone is AFK in some random corner of the map, they shouldn’t affect scaling until they get closer.

My experience with entering public 5 man DRM solo has been successful in that I completed the content and absolutely frustrating as there is no cohesion with the players in the instance, sometimes resulting in long grindy sessions. You’ll find the same in groups as well. Not everyone wants to take the lead.

I am hoping that there are some options or settings I have overlooked that will make this part of DRM easier for me to enjoy.

There unfortunately isn’t.

Invite them to a party. I always do that at the start and most players accept.

just don't, it's super annoying to receive invite when you choose to go in public to not have to deal with a group

Unless potentially showing your dps to someone running arcdps make you feel naked, I suppose.

If you want to be alone play private. Party forming is one of the basic concepts of mmorpgs. Of course, I'm going to invite people into a party if we do the same activity. Besides decline is one click away.

Yeah I never had a problem with the first three DRMs and doing public, but with the next 4 and being harder, I find myself dying a lot because the enemies scale up and are tougher to solo. You have to try to find other players and invite them to party. The cohesion is difficult in public too so sometimes it’s just easier to solo.

Only a couple of mobs have dangerous attacks now (like the bigger elite destroyer in the forge).

The final Snowden drifts (I think that's it, where raven dies) is particularly easy to the point there is no point. The escort groups die on spawn and you spend seconds per boss stage with champions that feel like veterans.

So far I haven't bothered to go back into DRM having finished what was required for the story progress and event.

If I decide I care to grind out the CM and AP then I will take the time to make my own Private group with friends and guildies, but there is no incentive to spend my time doing so.

What reason or incentive is there for using the Public options when joining DRM? Who is served by this haphazard mash of solo and grouped pseudo party instanced content? What is the intended experience for these players in this content?

Public is for those of us who just want to run a daily DRM or the story and not worry about builds or what other players are doing. Yes, in many cases mechanics get ignored, but for a non-CRM mode run public is pretty much unfailable so the quicker time to get going balances out the longer time the instance takes.

For now public works just fine. In 6 months time, it'll be much more of a struggle. I've only had 1 truly terrible DRM run (30-40 mins in Thunderhead) and one semi bad one in Fields of Ruin where the mechanics were ignored but the DRM didn't really suffer. The rest of the time, it's all been smooth sailing

I doubt I'll return to them after the Champions release is all completed unless there are alts needing it. They are just not interesting enough or rewarding enough for 20 mins of gaming

Or you can run them faster solo in private and skip the leeching afkers in public mate.

oh the can talk as much they want in chat I rarely ever read chat but i do look at arcps and if in the same group you have to see others player dps and in open squad its kinda depressing to see yourself topdps when playing meme healer builds. its better not to know others player dps if the content doesn't require anyone to play half descently.

Besides decline is one click away.except open squad/group isn't party forming, what you descibe is present and its called private group/squad. in private i'm affraid you cannot have 5 or 10 people ungrouped doing their own business. if you want to form a party do it the right way, tag up/start a group, open an lfg and/or shout in eotn to get people in then you'll have the real mmorpg experience (omit the difficult encounter) and you don't have to annoy those that decides they don't want to be bothered with a group for killing trash veterans with more hp. Same goes for guild in open world, at least have the descency to whisper the guy before sending a party/guild invit...ofc I refuses invites but you'd be surprised how many smart people think that it need further invit and then fill my bl for stupid reasons
