Most interesting interaction I've had yet

I also don’t know why people like to name and shame on a forum.

Or why people let others get so far under their skin that they need to complain about it on a forum.

But that’s really mild compared to the whispers in WvW lol.

I wasnt complaining, I was just curious

Oh I've had weird ones, too. The weirdest I got was when I was... standing around doing nothing. Literally, waiting for 10 minutes for the Shatterer to spawn. Said nothing, did nothing, etc. Suddenly I get a whisper saying "How utterly disgusting," or something to that effect. I tried to whisper back to ask them what they meant or if I was the wrong person, but I was blocked already. Maybe they just hated the design of my character?

Another one I got was when I was the commander. I was leading the escort to the Hall of Ascension in Elon Riverlands, when something weird happened. The escort mysteriously teleported back to the start of the event. No idea why. Once this happened, I got an angry whisper from somebody: "You think it's really funny wasting other people's time!" Or something to that effect. Tried to send them a message telling them that I have no idea what is going on, but I am blocked.

That's the unfortunate thing about the internet. It is a psychopathy aggregation machine. All of the regular people are invisible, because they don't spend their time obsessively sending messages behind block walls to signal their mediocrity and indifference.

Well, i tried whispering a few obvious bots in an attemt to see if any of them would respond. Mostly there was nothing, but a few times, for those with 5-10 bots following their character on their main account (usually a mesmer for portals) doing metas, they were probably watching netflix/youtube while "playing", so they did answer with the usual empty rhetorics. And no, don't bother with the usual "you don't know if they're bots" or if you feel called out by this, then please explain how a single person uses 10 accounts at the same time without using programs outside GW2. Educational, to say the least. I'm sure they felt bad on being contacted, which i admit was almost the entire purpose, but since they are still doing what they are doing, it's not like it matters. Would have been funny to get banned for that though, but i guess i avoided that with less than explicit questions.

What does this have to do with the OPs question? Nothing, just seemed like a close enough thread to put this in.

But still, you can't know what goes through other peoples heads, so why someone would do what you said is beyond us all, especially since they blocked you so you couldn't even ask for a reason. You should shrug and move on. I guess if reporting them makes you feel better, you could try that, but know that it's pointless.

When you have interactions like that, just assume as ugrakarma said they are 12 or younger. Most of the time it's true and if they are an actual adult... well, their age may have gone up but they certainly haven't matured any for sure.

Heck I once got blocked after someome complaining in map chat that it was saying how it was taking forever to get enough gold for the griffon and they didn't have a lot of time during the week to play. So I sent them a mail with a fair bit of gold and then like a week later went to mail them just to ask if they had gotten it yet, and I was blocked. Actually sent them a mail from another account in case it really was an accident, they never replied.

  1. I'm scientifically interested.
  2. There have been no named actually named on the OP. The act is being condemned, not a specific person.
  3. I for one wants this sort of behavior to be publically condemned.
  4. Things have gotten worse in there, huh? It has been... 6 years or so since I PvP'd in WvW, and I didn't get a lot of these.

Sure.

The OP image contains their name in chat

Sure. You want to name and shame

No. It’s always been like this. And if you take things personally, maybe this mode isn’t for you.

So you understand the only way that person can message you in a WvW mode?

They HAVE to block you to get your account name to be able to whisper you. Of course what’s funny is they either don’t realize or don’t care that you can’t message back.

It’s a game. Played by people between 13 (supposedly) and 65+. You’re going to get ALL kinds of behavior on this. Report, block and move on.

You’re not special. ?

Fair enough. But you have also included their name (chat window) in the image. Via forum rules that is considered naming and shaming.

As far as why you were blocked, they have to block you in a WvW mode in order to get your name to be able to whisper. Most are too childish to realize they still have you blocked to get a response.

And again, like all of the internet you have people on here that get a thrill from getting a response. Like they got from you as you went to the forum and posted it. Some people take joy from that, post screenshots of reactions in personal discord’s etc.

Me? I screenshot the messages like you did, and our guild enjoys a laugh about them. It’s kind of fun and therapeutic.

Yet, if it truly offends, and some can be truly offensive, block, report and send a screenshot in a mail to the exploits mail. If seen bans for particularly offense players.

But don’t give them the satisfaction of thinking they got under your skin.

If I'm being honest... you're kinda replying to people with a sort of passive aggressiveness that makes it look like you might be someone who WANTS to get under peoples skin. It's all good to have a civlized debate about social behaviour, but maybe dial back the frustration a bit?

Very weird, never saw/seen and image or link of any kind.

It’s been removed. I believe the OP realized from my first post.

How was it removed OP dident edit their post at all.

If a mod removed it the whole thread would have been deleted.

Not necessarily; the OP was one post, the offending screenshot was another (second) post.

Unfortunately OP your experience isn't an isolated one. My therapist once said many troubled people find solace in video games; a place they can express their frustrations with impunity. Someone who is tired of feeling like a loser in life may take that out on a random person online - in a game - anywhere they are relatively anonymous.People are saying it's likely a 12 year old, but it can just as likely be someone in their 30's - or older - someone perhaps experiencing some failing in life.

I am disappointed that this was your experience rather than something more pleasant, like being the recipient of a random act of kindness or compliment : that was the kind of thing the Guild Wars 2 community is usually known for.
