New Ranked mode suggestions : Gladiator mode and Gauntlet mode

This is a suggestion to introduce a new ranked mode which has a more hardcore style and reduces the chances of having external factors affect a player's rank.

What is Gladiator Mode?

Gladiator mode is a 1v1 PvP Ranked mode which pits two players against each other every match. The mode's features :

Every season, each player selects up to three characters they own to participate with. They are allowed to rotate these three characters during a "prep" phase before each match starts, choosing the order in which these characters go first.(If yu wanna run three Warriors, it's all cool too!)

The match will progress with both characters fighting until one is downed, and the round ends. The winner will have to face the next character of their opponent without going OOC after a 10s delay.

If all three of yur characters lose, yu lose the set. Each match has three sets.

What is Gauntlet mode?

Gauntlet mode is a more PvE style competitive mode. (Not ranked)The mode's features :

Similar to Gladiator mode, both players will use their team of Three chosen characters.Instead of fighting each other, they will instead fight a Horde of enemies until all three of their characters are defeated.

The Horde of enemies will come in waves, and each wave will get progressively more difficult. The winner of this mode is the side which outlasts the other.

This mode can also have two variants :Group Gauntlet mode where two teams of 5 players each stand together against the horde to outlast the other.FFA Gauntlet mode where 10 players fight to be the last one standing.

NO to the first one...MEH to the second.

1) GW2 is not a 1v1 specialized game, you can win most games on any profession but....given this community, I'd expect some professions to be berated with nerf request to months to no end and it happens now...let alone a proper 1v1 mode, honestly we're playing a MMO no Chess, you can only have a real skill rating when both parties start from the same position, we play MMO for the diversity, customization and fun factor...it is unimaginable that you can balance 9 different professions to have the same shot at victory regardless of the build and why should it be? We don't need more drama on this forum we need less....people spend vast amounts of time and effort on their chosen profession/s and that's the point of MMOs.

2) It would get boring after a couple of fights.....

It's not gonna replace current ranked, it's just an additional ranked mode for people who are more interested in a test of skill. What's the matter? Afraid of losing by not bunkering on a node? It's extremely ludicrous that current PvP is less about Player fighting players, but more about sitting on nodes and playing topple. As for yur argument, we have WvW for that.

2) It would get boring after a couple of fights.....

As if current state of pvp isn't boring already.

1) I mean does this not happen already? For how many years now? In conquest?

2) Then you could go back to conquest and stick to it, it's not like someone is opting to remove conquest as the defacto bread and butter game mode. I swear it's like every time someone suggests a new mode or something, it's always thrown on the defensive on why it should never be added because it's not better than conquest. Give it its own queue and be done with it, let people play what they want to play with no dumb gimmicks attached. Looking at you off-season PvP.

The ironic thing is Conquest isn't even good.It heavily favours and it has always heavily favoured sustain boonballs and Scourges.

The name of the game is node control, which reduces the number of "effective" BUILDS to Support War, H, Scourge, Support Guardians, Decap Thief, Scrappers and Renegades.Outliers in the past filled the niche of Roaming +1 skirmishers which can fight and kill other skirmishers 1v1.

Power nerf threw everything out of balance because it essentially removed an entire build category, the Roaming +1s.Now yu either play one of the other "effective" Builds or lose. Conquest is not good and never have been good for build diversity.

Are you really considering your suggestion? You like others consider the game balanced as far as your own class goes...anything else outside that spectrum is unskilled and "boring" to fight. The options are two :

1)You're playing a stealth class2)You're playing a class with blocks/teleports

Your attitude seemingly belongs to one of the two categories when it comes to the objective consideration of the game, let's talk about your issue with "bunker" meta.....what does make you think that anything would change for you in a 1v1 mode?

Want to hear a more reasonable idea? - limit 1v1 mode to same class, as crazy as it sounds it would make much more sense to be considered one of the best whatever when dealing with somebody using your same class....rather than facing somebody who may hard-counter you or not.

Wanna see how good of a rev you are?....1v1 another rev in this proposed 1v1 mode.....don't go facing a necro, ele, ranger, guardian or whatever and then proceed to write a book about what should be nerfed on them accordingly to your biased point of view, that's what I have meant with the initial post.

This is a MMO, expecting precise intra-balance between professions is ludicrous at best but that doesn't stop people from whining when things don't go their way, always thinking that their own profession way to defend itself is the only legit one and anything else is cheese mode

1) Exactly...imagine how much worst things would be with an open 1v1 mode

2) Different queue doesn't stop this community from whining, this is not about the legitimacy of the idea, it's about the selfish environment we play in, the majority of players use a single class and most times a single spec or two on this class and will perpetually ask for nerfs on anything else that happens to beat them...even some aspects of their own class if they don't directly play it...players here are that selfish

The population is already non-existent. You can't split it further. First we need to get back a lot of players before we can even consider that. Plus, 1v1 is a pretty poor idea, some classes would be locked out entirely, otherwise overperforming easily.

It's okay, Conquest still has bots. /s1v1 is for people who are interested in 1v1 matches with themselves as the only factor deciding their win or loss.Having a team of three characters means yu can bring potential counters to whatever yur opponent fields.

If a certain build or profession is THEN dominating the charts, then it shows clearly what needs to be balanced or nerfed. It's much better than Conquest where yu can win just by sitting on a node and controlling it, which makes certain builds overperform anyway.

If they are off-season only they might be neat. But as a permanent mode, no thank you.We don't need to dilute the current PvP player base. It already is too small as it is.

That aside, any PvP mode other than Conquest is guaranteed to suffer from even worse imbalance than Conquest.Conquest already is imbalanced, and that's the game's main PvP mode.

1) Idk man it just kinda feels like a excuse at this point, Spvp is already uncompetitive and a mode that should be played for fun, outside of ATs/MATs.

2)You can't stop this pvp community from whining. They'll literally whine about anything and yes this is something we can agree on this entire section. They already do it for conquest, nothing is going to change if they add another permanent mode to the mix. If more whining is the most of your worries it's something we already have. Having more of it from pseudo wannabe casual try hards isn't a cause for alarm since this game mode isn't competative. Ats=Competitive, and that's where balance is derived from or at least what people like to reference for game mode balance.

That's a fair observation, maybe yu are right that it should be an off season thing.

That aside, any PvP mode other than Conquest is guaranteed to suffer from even worse imbalance than Conquest.Conquest already is imbalanced, and that's the game's main PvP mode.

In that case I think they should shift Conquest away from node domination for a majority of points and have other objectives in each map to force fights, much like Svanir/Chieften and Lords.
