    Yeah

Action cam completely changed the way I play the game, and for the better.

Off to play games that reward strategy and thought. Farewell, Watch the Floor Simulator.

  • Yeah

Yep, I use action cam for nearly everything. Made things much easier for me.

  • Yeah

My Razer Naga has the issue where it double or triple clicks sometimes, so being able to turn the camera without having to click is great.

    Nah

The only time I ever used it was at the the Shooting Gallerty in HoT (because there was no other way to do that) and at another HoT adventure (maybe one involving Chak and a rifle).

  • Yeah

I play with Action Camera and a 360 controller.

  • Yeah

I couldn't play the game at launch because it didn't have this. I actually quit the game over the interface and didn't come back until they added action camera.

  • Yeah

I use action cam all the time now. It really makes directing mounts easy.

Plague Signet is the only skill in the game that is worse when traited.

  • Yeah

Exactly this. With the freedom of movement we have for most combat skills, I can't imagine playing without it. It's so much better and relieves hand stress when I don't have to hold a mouse button to move the camera around.

  • Yeah

Yep, I do use it. When I first started using it, it was before I started doing melee classes. Loved it with engi rifle and ranger bows. I got so used to it I even melee with it now. or have been for awhile I suppose. I couldn't imagine not using it, despite the fact I have played the game longer without it than i have with it. At first it took a bit to adapt, I started in 2012 on gw2 played for 2 years without it. When i quit for 2 1/2 years that camera was implemented. So when i returned I started using it, guess been using for about 10 months now.

To be honest i had to re-adapt to alot of things, when i first started gw2 I used half of a controller and mouse to play the game lmao. Reason for this was because I had junk keyboard that wouldn't register multiple key presses. So strafing while moving forward or backward was impossible, (yea even jumping while moving was impossible so one can see the problem here, jumping puzzles anyone? Nope wont happen lol). So I rigged my Logitech controller to deal with movement, jumping and weapon 1 while i'd steer cam with the mouse and click the rest of my skills. I actually got pretty good with this, played for 2 years like that lmao. Been nice if I had the action cam back then I coulda used full controller I'd been happy.

Since my return last nov. I've adapted to keyboard and mouse, but took me awhile to adjust because of the way i learnt how to play. I'm good now though, I doubt I could handle controller/mouse like i did then. Even with action cam option. Though the ability to do so will be there now for an emergency right?

    Classic Razer

Personally I don't use the action camera, I think it's incredibly awkward and a substantial step backwards in terms of usability, especially on a class with a lot of ground targeted AoEs

You can turn it on and off on the go set it to mouse 3 so if I need to aoe a specific spot just turn it off. But each to their own right?
Takes time to learn it. Once you do a half controller and mouse deal nothing is awkward after that lmao.

    Yeah

I toggle alot between between them.
And you have to toggle the action camera off when you use mounts. Otherwise when you want to stop the mount turns backwards instead of full stopping. Discovered this yesterday and cliff are much easier.

Where do you look to see if you have 'action camera' on?

In the event I don't get a chance, thank you all for the company and help when I needed it from time to time.

  • Yeah

Action camera is the best thing to ever happen to this game. Any modern MMORPG that hopes to survive apart from maybe WoW requires it. That said, every time I return to WoW it feels like a step backwards... Will probably just stick with GW2 for now.

  • Yeah

I started using it when they added it to the game. This game broke keys on my mouse before then from having to hold them down to move.

It's in options. You'll need to assign a key to toggle it on and off.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet might give it to you.

  • Nah

I love the idea, but I like having the "aerial" view to see what's coming up from behind me. I've never been able to get used to fighting in combat mode, except for brain-dead content, like farming the Labyrinth. (Maybe I'm not skilled enough to use it in open world, let alone in Fract/t4 or Raids? Probably.)

    Yeah

I do, but weirdly I only use it out of combat.

I use it most often when I'm exploring or doing a jumping puzzle - situations where I'd previously spend a lot of time holding down the right mouse button. Before Action Camera was added I changed one of the buttons on my mouse to be a right button toggle - basically if I pushed it the mouse acted as if I was holding down the right button until I pushed it again. Before that I was getting into trouble with RSI in my index finger (not entirely from GW2 but it definitely didn't help.)

In combat I prefer the default controls, and being able to move the camera independent of my character.

"I know that I'm born and I know that I'll die, the in-between is mine."

  • Yeah

I bound the camera toggle to the X key so that I may switch between it quickly. It is pretty much necessary for any ease of movement underwater, it helps for certain ranged combat situations, and it helps in mounted situations where high-speed finesse is needed. I don't use it for general movement, gliding, close combat, and more ordinary mounted movement.

  • Yeah

Yup. Like a poster above me, I quit the game due to the awkwardness of maneuvering in combat. I came back every so often, but not finding combat fun due to the control scheme always pushed me away. The only reason I'm still playing GW2 now is because I accidentally discovered that they, at some point, added the Action Camera.

  • Yeah

I play rifle primarily, so action cam is right up my alley.

You stand to benefit more from making friends than you do making enemies.

  • Nah

I have tried many times. But I just cannot do it. Especially in WvW it simply gives up too much advantage for slightly better controls.

    I wish I could.

  • Yeah

I get around this issue by setting ground target skills to fast cast. Hold the button, use the screen reticule to target where I want it to land, then release. Zoom out far enough and you can essentially target any location within range. Personally I love the mobility I have with being able to run full speed in any direction regardless of which direction the camera is facing.

  • Yeah

I use it almost exclusively except for when I do map completion. It helps for my wrist pains since I no longer have to hold down RMB to move the camera.

  • Nah

I've tried it but haven't adjusted well. I find I kept wanting to switch it off to do stuff, like gather a node.
Any advice on specific keybinds you guys use for action cam? I have Mouse 3 as my heal button (so handy!) so I don't want to switch that out. I am constantly holding down my right mouse button so I know action cam helps with this and would like to figure out the best way to utilize it.
P.S. My main is a mesmer, if that changes anything.
    Thanks!

  • Yeah

  • Nah

I tried it. I didn't like it. Just the way you targeted stuff for AOEs on my ele threw me off. It might work on my Deadeye, but any targeting skills would probably feel weird.

    Yeah

Everywhere. PvE, PvP, WvW, so far with good results. There are too many spells for an enjoyable tab-targetting experience for me. I wish it was better made though, when you open the social tab, it doesn't take you out of action camera, and there's no keyboard shortcut to collect event rewards, and this is kind of annoying at times.

    Yeah

I use both and often toggle on and off. Even with max ground target lock option selected sometimes ground targeted aoe skills is sometimes tricky and annoying with action cam on. I do like it for diff purposes though . I also use keybinds ofc, alot of weird keybinds all within quick reach, even though I don't have a gaming mouse but also skill click time to time for extra multitasking and almost simultaneously casting multiple skills. I main Mesmer so there's alot of piano playing to begin with. But yes I do use action cam as much as I can. it helps while navigating or single target combat.

What is this action camera? How do I set it?
From all this talk I would like to check it out.

EDIT: Found it and omg this game plays so much better now on a controller! This is epic!
Where the hell has this been? Why did no one tell me? You people are evil. You didn't show me the awesomness of the action controller. That's not nice.

  • Yeah

You can keybind the action camera toggle in the options. It's a great addition to the game, and I rarely turn it off nowadays.

Yes, it's one of the reasons I came back, as it makes controller use much easier!

  • Nah

Except for when I was forced to use it for Shooting Gallery and Scrap Rifle Test in HoT? Nooooo. I already have a problem with motion sickness as it is, action cam would make the game unplayable for me.

I was searching for toggle right click because my hand would start to hurt after 45 min of gameplay due to a constant pressure on right click and then I stumbled upon action camera. I LOVE it but I have one issue with it, when I zoom out to max I sometimes miss some important skills because target gets out of focus and melee assist doesn’t work. If only I could tweak aiming dot to be little bit lower... :/

I tried but I don't prefer action camera so far. Placing AoEs is too awkward. If they worked on that I'm certain that I'd use it most of the time. It makes for a more engaging gameplay in my opinion and in PvE it's pretty fun already, at least if you only have a few AoEs. In the competitive game modes it will always be a big disadvantage though.

I’m missing these settings to make it more enjoyable:
    1) New option: Toggle off action camera automatically while placing an AoE skill.
While placing an AoE circle (fast with range indicator) the game automatically toggles out of action mode to let you place it without awkwardly shaking around your camera.

    2) New option: Slider to move up the reticle dot on the screen in action camera mode.
So you can play with a bit more of an aerial view.

    3) New key bind: Toggle to free camera while in action camera mode.
So while holding a designated button you can look around conveniently without affecting the direction you're moving in. This should work with 1). To let you look around with the free camera toggle and freely place AoEs behind you while moving forwards, just like you could in normal camera mode.
