Strange graphical artifacts (GTX 1080)

Recommended Posts

Hey guys!

I've been playing for about 2 months now and today I noticed some crazy artefacts in-game out of nowhere.

This got me worried so I DDU uninstalled my gpu drivers in safe mode and downloaded the latest ones. I also reset my gpu overclock and tried starting gw2 again... well, noticed some black artifacts once again.

Pictures (the green and pink box are from the artifacts...):https://imgur.com/XKeZC62https://imgur.com/a/4I93w

I've had my GTX 1080 ASUS STRIX since last year and had 0 problems with overclocking and temps. Temps are always under 55 degrees.

Could this be a software error with GW2 or a hardware problem? I'm not noticing it in other games.

What do you think guys? Please help my stressed soul out :(

First reboot and try again. If the problem remains:

Please do some testing with 3dMark or Furmark to see if it is limited to Guild Wars 2

If these also show artifacts, you may have an issue with your graphics card, like a broken graphics ram chip.Of both of above run fine for some time, I would try to repair your GW2 install:https://help.guildwars2.com/hc/en-us/articles/201863008-Repairing-the-Game-Client

Hmm very true, might be the VRAM. Well, I just reinstalled gw2 and I'm not getting those anymore. Could it possibly be a in-game issue and not hardware related?

Maybe. Usually bad VRAM will cause colored blocks/lines all over the screen - not generally in one spot like your picture shows. I would be concerned about what may have caused a file to be corrupt though.

I had the same issue in vabbi today, on my brand new machine with RTX 2070 card. It has only ever happened in GW2. I deleted GW2 client and reinstalled it, afterwards I could play in vabbi again, but my graphics card is running fans at a mad rate. I tried playing ESO, WOW, Archeage Unchained and BDO with no issues, so I believe this is some client issue. I also experienced mad lag these last few weeks on EU servers, something I never experience on my second account on NA servers (I live in Sweden). Also I am getting seriously jaded at the whole "map full" malarkey, this is also a rare occurence on my NA account. Maybe servers are flooded in these covid times, I have no clue, I do believe the EU players need some love though.

I was going to say that the first thing you should (have) tri(ed) is to run the -repair command for the GW2 client. But since you've already re-installed... ;)

And it should, because those artifacts can be the result of overheating, which can damage the hardware irrepairably if there is no proper cooling.

See if you can adjust/increase the fan speeds for case fans and CPU fan in your BIOS (perhaps it's even a newer UEFI BIOS which provides options for set fan percentages depending on the heat level). And make sure you have software installed for your graphics card that also regulates fan speed according to temperatures.

I now have no problem with overheating, I do however hard crash after minutes of gameplay. This happened with the latest win update, I tried deleting the client, reinstalling latest win update, then reinstalling the client, disabling windows defender and all that malarkey, disabling my antivirus and my 3rd party firewall. Nothing works. Computer runs fine in all other games, including BDO on ultra settings.
