How many Inquest are there? [Merged]

Over the years, we've encountered the Inquest with high frequency across many story arcs. We've seen them in complex underwater facilities, massive secret facilities and now in a base that could easily rival Rata Sum. The resources, both in regards to materiel and personnel, that the Inquest can bring to bear is staggering and any time they're dealt what should be a significant blow, they appear again, just as strong as before. It feels like this one sub-faction is somehow more powerful than groups like The Pact or even nations like Kryta. What proportion of the Asuran population does the Inquest's membership represent? At this point my Commander has killed so many Asura while fighting the Inquest that I'm starting to worry that one day she'll be pulled aside and charged with war crimes.

The Inquest population would probably be around 25-30% is my guess. Since there is quite alot of Inquest bases, spies, undercover agents, underwater facilities and other secret stuff. And now as we finally saw their Rata Primus which is around Rata Sum's size I assume.
An other ''evil'' group is Nightmare Court. It has been stated that the Nightmare Court consists of approximately 1/6 to 1/8 (or 10-15 percent) of the Sylvari population.

    | Separatist | Nightmare Court | Inquest | White Mantle | Sunspears | Loyalists | Ascalon | Kryta | Ebonhawke | Elona | Istan | Kourna | Vabbi | Cantha | Luxon | Kurzick | 71 characters | "Rally to me, Ascalonians!" "Keep Ascalon in your heart." "May the Gods protect you." "Be blessed by the Six."

Honestly I quite like the idea that the majority of Asura might be Inquest.

I do not think we should consider repeating events and upscaled waves of enemies as canon.

I also like to think that there's some sort of device one carries to use waypoints, and that it may have a safety feature that teleports the user if defeated, before they die. something like that would not save from from instant death like decapitation, but it could save you after a beating with a hammer. Inquest are often seen teleporting away, so they maybe have other safety measures.

I would have loved if players received an actual device to use waypoints in the Journal. It would both be a tutorial and an explanation to why they can use waypoints so easily from anywhere while other NPCs have to walk to them to use them. The device would usually be too expensive for you, but you'd be the hero for defeating the tutorial boss, and your superiors would give you the device and pay most of its expenses as a reward, leaving you just with the standard waypoint fees.

Dang, that's a lot of nasty asura. And I quite like asura, too! :(

    Nooooo!!

Nearly all of them are Inquest, I'd say nearer 90%. Asuras are actually evil by default and only a few turn to the light side of The Force.

That is to say, the Inquest is overused.

Or Asura as the main Geniuses are in general overused. I rather would like some human technology or charr tech or maybe even norn tech geniuses stepping forward on either the good or the bad side.

Maybe that's just me though, but that only the Asura can be are portrayed geniuses is a bit too stereotypical for me. I would love to see some minor breaking away from the asura -> tech // Norn -> spirits // charr -> steampunk-y warstuff // humans -> huge history // sylvari -> naive.

i think because in this episode we exactly see charr who aren't so steampunky legion bound is what made them into a big success. Ofcourse, the big lines should sort of persist, but these steps outwards from whatever stereotype has formed over the years just makes for a broader or deeper experience.

  • Given their sheer numbers in the latest episode, especially the fact that they've built a complex larger than Rata Sum, I have to wonder where the non-Inquest asura are. The Olmahkan descriptions of the asura also seem to suggest that the base was constructed rather recently.

Apart from Taimi's krewe and Phlunt's lackeys (which, even combined, aren't very numerous ingame), we haven't seen any substantial groups of non-Inquest asura since the game's launch as far as I'm aware.

Asuras are busy working in their Labs.

  • The Inquest isn't a faction insomuch as they are an eventuality. Eventually, when old asura get jaded with rules and regulations, they join the inquest so they can have fun with experiments again. Really, for an Asura it is part of their transition into adulthood.

Need I remind you that it's just a fantasy story? Asura lasers are as weak as charr steam-things. It's all nonsense.

I'm pretty sure that Inquest have outposts and bases everywhere in tyria, but almost the half of their bases are hidden, that is comprehensive. I'm also thinking about the Headquarter and the hierarchy, I think that crucible of Eternity isn't the only main base, who is the "Leader", the director of this organization? Since Kudu who lead Crucible of Eternity is technically dead to the dungeon story, on the new recently added map in specimen chamber, the girl from inquest says that her experiments is a legacy from her father experiments (Kudu ?).. I'm lost myself in this hierarchy... I would suppose that they are organized as a giant Lab, with branch chief, assistant, scientists , Inquisitor (recently introduced with a bounty of an Inquest Inquisitor), Specialists , Researchers and so on... I note that they would surely split into sub-lab experimenting on a specific domain / Part of the Eternal Alchemy. ->I never saw a very specific lab on Soul/Conscience binding to golems I know they practice this horrible experiment as can be seen in Asuras Personal story at fun-house.

To continue, I'm not quite sure that asura have the better technology, they are all great at theirs layers: Charrs Tanks and bikes are awesome... Asuran Security Systems and turrets are a sure value, But when all the races create thing together it's far way better: The Airships from pact/Atherblades , Fort Trinity....
About lasers, it's special... In crucible of eternity they "one-shot" you.

Then, I would be not surprised that Inquest represent the greater part of Asuras; they spy the other colleges so, they have spy in them, on more than one In my opinion, don't forgot they have a seat at the Arcane Council ! Also it's very easily to influence asuras who have enough to be undervalued , unrecognized by the administration for their works whereas in Inquest they can be promoted, I just read the Inquest Recruiter dialog at Rata Sum, it's a great speech, they can easily hire peoples with that.

Oh, I thought it was a real world. My bad? /sarcasm

I don't understand what you're trying to say really. Maybe if I explain it as: I like my nonsense to be more interesting than just pure stereotypes. Idk lol.
