Anyone manage to defeat Turai Ossa in Crown Pavilion?

I got through to Liadri on my Dragonhunter just fine (actually, more than fine - all the fights were over in no time). It was with Liadri that I had to switch profession, and after her I did try several different professions for the follow-up fights in tier 4. I am stuck at Turai now, but I am certain it is only a matter of patience, calm and focus, which today I don't have.

Then i’ll try it with the DH as well

It's not about "niche" builds at all. It's about using the traits/skills available to your class. You can win with a standard one-size-fits-all DPS build, but it might be a lot easier if instead you use traits/utilities that help you handle the specific mechanics of these fights. For instance, warriors have access to plenty of blocks and invulns. Why not use those against Turai Ossa? Surviving the first 30 seconds of the fight are the big challenge here. If you just go with a standard max-DPS build, you give up all of those tools you could be using to win!

For Liadri, it's 100% about pass/fail mechanics. Allowing a Vision of Mortality to touch you or standing in the massive glowing orange area effect zones are automatic fails. But Liadri herself is nothing special. In fact, for the first phase of the fight she does literally nothing but light ranged damage that you can simply ignore! Build matters very little here. Just learn the mechanics and you win!

Seems kinda broken? How to defeat him when his initial "ill 1shot you lil bich" phase is more than twice as long as it should be?

You didn't dodge his throw attack. He stomps in the middle, then charges it and throws a projectile. If he hits you with it it flies back to him and superbuffs him with 25 stacks of might and quickness etc

Yeah well no crap Sherlock, the only thing here is that he does not (!) teleport to the middle to throw his shield, he just chases me indefinitely until i die.

After about 50 tries I've decided to give up on this one. It's not worth getting my blood pressure off the charts.

I've tried with multiple classes, followed every youtube guide perfectly, but I just can't beat this dude. I've managed to get him down to about 40% HP but that's it. Dodging and breaking both his bars has gotten rather easy (especially on Daredevil) but I can't seem to nuke him down fast enough; after breaking his bars I eventually run out of evades and he always one-shots me down at some point.

Anyways, nice challenge from Anet and I really envy you godlike creatures who manage to kill him, especially with all gambits on. It's insane.

Are you using the standard meta build for this or did you change certain traits and trait lines?

You can use fragments of faith... that literally blocks 4 of his attacks, if you find the little shields If you also take the trait that puts fragments of faith down you have 8. Not much further protection needed. i also took focus because scepter is so good.

Defeated him without any food or utility buff.

To do it on DH - I've gone with Shelter and traps - Fragments of Faith, Test of Faith, Procession of Blades, Dragon's Maw. Weapons you want to use are - Mace / Shield + Greatsword. Traits - Honor 123, Zeal 223 , Dragonhunter 113. The idea is to run around and pick up aegis from your Fragments of Faith + Hunter's Determination. Then there's Mace 3 for additional block + Shelter. I've used Shield to add additional CC, but if you fail, try with Focus (F5 is 3 additional blocks). You should be able to CC with F1, GS5, Maw as well; other traps apply small CC as well due to DH11.

I had the same problem initially with Daredevil, then realised I had to switch tactics after breaking both bars and just brawl it out.

To do that I ended up taking Staff + S/P, Infilitrator's Signet, Roll for Initiative, Bandit's Defense and Impact Strike. After dodging and vaulting through the first phase using staff, I'd Steal to Turai and use Impact Strike to break his bar. Impact Strike wouldn't recharge in time for the second breakbar, so after Stealing I'd swap to S/P, use three Headshots and autoattack until he recovered. Then after that it was down to spamming Pistol Whip, along with Bandit's Defense and Impact Strike to cover me when I was low on initiative.

I killed him on my DH. Something that needs to be added because I see it all the time: you don't have to dodge his shield to get his break bar, you must not take any damage from his shield instead. This means that invulnerability works (if you run out of dodges) and so does teleporting fast away. I tried with Renewed Focus (it works) and also Wings of Resolve (it works too) Another option that I haven't tested: His shield is a projectile, projectile defense might work on it.

For the last phase, after you remove his buffs, he can be CCed and conditions apply to him normally. You can cripple, immobilize and chill him, while killing him from a safe distance. You can also blind him, chain knockdown him, daze/stun him as well. You no longer need to dodge all his attacks and pay attention to defense, go full offence, keep him disabled and kill him quickly.

I tried it first with a Scourge (full Viper gear), using Sand Swell, Flesh Wurm and Spectral Walk, but he still managed to down me every time before the first breakbar. So I switched to Dragonhunter (full Berserker gear), finally made progress and managed to kill him. I used plenty of blocks to defend against his hyper attacks (F3, focus 5, "Retreat!", Shelter (healing skill) and the Renewed Focus elite skill for invulnerability (and a recharged F3 block)), coupled with dodging and keeping on running away from him. F2 is a good skill for escape as well, and it heals you too. After the 2nd breakbar he basically becomes a block of cheese and melts before your very eyes.

Uff... I found the nerve today to give it another go, and it is so frustrating I want to cry. ;) The closest I got to a victory was getting him down to 7% health (7%!! Ahhhh!!!!!), but then I was downed and killed. This is the hardest challenge I have faced in GW2.

P.S. I always get killed right after the center part (when I CC'd him and applied damage). Maybe I need to retreat sooner but find it hard to determine when.

Tried on my Necro (in Reaper spec) about four times and failed miserably. Switched to one of my Guardians (dragonhunter), gave her my warrior's ascended armor and my necro's legendary scepter/ascended focus, and grabbed some food/sharpening stones. Put on all the aegis/invul that I could. Got it after about 12 tries, I think.

@Deihnyx.6318 said:Did it with necro... kind of a joke to be honest, if you manage to get past the first CC, even if he downs you, you can finish him by spamming 1 and 2 for next CC xD

Indeed - Necro downed state (if you have the spectral agony mastery) trivializes most gauntlet fights. I main an ele, and I was able to get most fights OK, but as soon as things got tough, I fell back to my (lesser geared and far less played) power reaper and cheesed the fight. Normally, I would have skipped it, but there are far too many AP involved in some of those fights.

In Turai Ossa's case, I think I took him 80-0 from downed state, since he can't out-damage downed 1 heal when spectral agony is up. It also helps that his throw seems to always miss when you're downed.

The heal on damage for spectral agony should either be reduced, removed, or given an ICD.

I finally did it! Took a break, came back, let my DH at him again: Kingslayer, yay! =)

Edit: Adding the build info (all armor and weapons, which are Sw/F and GS, are Berserker's):CMDn3N8.jpg

  • Use Sw/F to avoid him (block, dodge, jump w/ F2, pick up Shards of Faith if available, or just evade while running), until the center fight
  • Use Sword skill 2 to teleport to him, if you have no dodge left against his ranged attack!
  • Tether him w/ F1, use Focus skill 4, quickly lay traps (elite skill first!) and switch to GS for burst damage and additional CC
  • Quickly get away from him as soon as he starts dealing damage again
  • Repeat
