I always took the charming and barefooted nature of Her Royal Highness as being a symbol of a free spirit... our mundane world has embraced this representation of going shoeless over the years in various ways.

“I see you go bare-shod. This is most likely extremely sensible. Shoes are no end of trouble for girls. . . . How many have danced to death in slippers of silk and glass and fur and wood? Too many to count—the graveyards, they are so full these days. You are very wise to let your soles become grubby with mud, to let them grow their own slippers of moss and clay and calluses. This is far preferable to shoes which may become wicked at any moment.”

She's actually wearing a pair of highly protective combat boots, they're just invisible because of mesmer magic.

If you want X, and Y is needed to get get X, you also have to want Y if you really want X. If you don't want Y, you don't want X. It's easy.

I always assumed it'd because she's the queen and can do what she likes.

I assume Queen Elizabeth II wears those horrible fluorescent felt suits for the same reason.

The invisible shoes are so incomprehensibly rare, it is a sign of extreme status and power to use them. And she got them way BEFORE they were available to some lucky plebs.

Alternatively, maybe she is a Mistborn fan.

Because the lore bit hasn't been brought up, Jenna's world view is a little unconventional...... not naive, but rather idealistic. What sets her apart from the stereotype of a delusional moon child is how that trope is a conscious ruse on her part. This masks her borderline devious aptitude of navigating the hypocrisy inherent in Kryta's aristocracy; often turning noble decorum into a trap to gain "cooperation" from "neglectful" members of Kryta's Noble Houses. That wit is what earned her some enemies in the ministry, fearing it threatens their individual seats of power.

Moving back to the whole barefoot thing...... She has a desire for Divinity's Reach to become a place of safety and comfort for the citizens of Kyrta, and this has lead to a number of somewhat quirky, but oddly practical laws in DR. The one in relation to this is a rigorous upkeep ordnance to keep the Streets of DR clean and free of debris, citing a desire for her, or the citizens, to be able to walk the streets of the city without injuring their feet. Its unclear if Jenna created the ordnance out of a desire to walk around barefoot, or if she walks around barefoot as a way to enforce it (so the ministry doesn't slack on city maintenance)..... but thats exactly the kind of ambiguous motive shes known to use, to keep her detractors on the defensive.

Well, in that case: Why are mounts allowed in the city? ;)

It could be that the Queen wishes to be seen as humble by her subjects by going barefooted, or as a sign of some recognition that she, despite being a monarch, also serves her people. I'd be interested in any official lore on it. Interesting question, OP, thanks for asking it.

...or it could be that the artist screwed up and forgot to put shoes on this NPC.

Clear, plastic, platform "Jelly" shoes were all the rage when I was in middle school, too. Jennah knows what's up in the world of fashion.

Because mounts come from Elona, and basically all of core Tyria is now stuck in time. If you want to get into the mind crushing meta-context of it all, there is a theory that the world of Tyria is fragmented and caught in a time loop. By coincidence (or possibly intention), this occurred during the same window as the Consortium started exploring Fractals. And now we've recently learned about the Human gods withdrawing from Tyria's dimensional planes... which is kind of troubling since we're already eyebrow deep in multiverse theory with the Mists and WvW. That makes us unwitting time travelers when we hit way points...... or going back and reliving LS story chapters as if we didn't already know the outcome....

I knew it was a joke..... but durty streets are no laughing matter. Also like bringing up the fact we have a multiverse, but don't automatically default to evil twin plot lines. Well except that one time...... but the infinity ball is hands down the best multigag reference in the game, so I'll give it a pass.

Nah son, all the side quests effect the maps a fair bit. The festivals reflect recent events through various chatter too.

  • a lot of the nobles have a serious desire for pretty, well groomed, female feet. Completely understandable if the person the feet are attached too is also pretty and well groomed.

So Jennah does that to keep those distracted. They think all day about her feet, about touching, caressing, massage them, think about those soles touching the ground... and have no time nor capacity to think about toppling and replacing her.

    Clever girl that queen Jennah.

She's a Mesmer. We heard it first from Kasmeer, there's a solid chance Jenna is naked flat out, and what we see is just mesmered on. :open_mouth:

She probably just bought them off TP. She's the queen. She can affort them.

The whole point of a social game is to play with the people you want to play with, not be forced to play with the people you don't.

  • If she really wants her people to have a better life then why did she leave hundreds of them homeless by replacing the Great Collapse with a pleasure some for adventurers?

Not to mention hiding and doing nothing while Scarlet wrecked Kessex Hills, when it’s been demonstrated she’s incredibly overpowered?

dynastic reasons. She is the last of the line. She needs to stay alive, at least until she has given birth to a heir. Btw, her clock is ticking. She just should marry that last ascalonian heir in Ebonhawk to unify the lines and get over with it.

I've been researching this, there is NO designer shoe store in divinity's reach. A Queen should not wear common shoes. And she doesn't have access to gemstore.

I duno about that, she is wearing the bloodstone crown which is gemstone only.

I all seriousness. Her initial model did not have any shoes. Probably some designer oversight since her feet were mostly covered with a long gown. Eventually someone noticed this and since then it became sort of meme-ish. Now Anet exposes this thing on purpose as a joke.

She doesn't like wearing shoes. its explained in Episode 4 Season 3 Head of the Snake. She's never worn shoes.
