I used to zerg there for hours, the endless karma train. Since I came back to game last year the place is super dead. What's the reason, the place was used to level up fast and to karma train. I suppose 1 or both of those things were severely nerfed.

not sure if eotm's death is related to anything that happen in wvw, as I stated the instance was mostly used for pve purposes
But I agree with you, wvw has been an e-kitten competition for too long. They could implement a scaling factor to the buildings, larger are your zerg stronger are the defenses to discourage a little bit the zerg strategy but not kill it
The removal of XP from WvW in April 2016 ended it for most and then skirmish rewards in June 2017 was the final blow.

People ran eotm for easier wxp, levels, loot, and k-train action. The major rewards for wvw are now tied to the participation pips system, which does not exist in eotm, so people don't run it. Taking out regular exp and tomes of knowledge raining from reward tracks also killed leveling alts in there.
No content updates, terrible meta and balance are probably killing wvw.

Players can differentiate being respected vs being manipulated.

Most likely its "deadness". The place is mainly filled now with AP farmers and 1v1 players that use cheeze/tryhard builds (versus people that have 0 interest in fighting and are running PvE setups).

PiPs are only reason why i don't play there. Fights are total kitten in normal wvw compared EotM and maps are total kitten too compared EotM.

Just more empty wvw-maps, nearly no one out of prime, only partially filled maps at prime, not even queue on reset.
Now it’s end of the year and still no alliance in sight ...
So, there wasn’t major changes to WvW since linking either. The alliance project isn’t stagnating things. WvW had stagnated long before.
The fact that they are working on it, to me is progress. And not a reason to scrap it.
People were complaining about EOTM for months claiming that EOTM was the reason less fewer people were playing on the real wvw maps. Which of course was complete fake news and EOTM wasn't the reason wvw was dying on its feet, it was because of too many servers bad balancing of the professions, lack of support or interest for years by anet was the real reason. But in any case, people complained so anet first nerfed all eotm rewards by 50%, 50% less wxp, 50% title rank xp, 50% less karma etc. Then anet removed XP in wvw completely, instead of giving tomes 1 per wvw rank. So all the uplevels left eotm and switched to using their 80s to get tomes and then use them on their uplevels. Meaning no one played on their uplevels in eotm anymore. So all the troll guilds that used to come to eotm on their 80s simply to farm uplevels also quit. Then anet added pips and legendary armor to the gamemode but they didn't add the pip system to EOTM only in wvw. That was the nail in the coffin for eotm map. Again ANET listened to the wrong people and not only killed real wvw they've killed EOTM as well. And the new coming changes to wvw are not going to save it, the idea of a world every 3months then getting deleted and no more servers is 100% doomed to fail. Again anet didn't listen to the right people, so they will spend 1year+ developing the new system instead of really fixing wvw issues and will have wasted all that time on updates that don't even work on paper...

Alliances will actually provide some stability. Is it perfect? Young cats no. But it will allow a somewhat better ability to balance populations.
EOTM style with colors would never allow you to consistently be with your guild or people you want to play with. Queue up with a squad? Yeah, no. Still can’t queue up with more than two people in sPvP, and there is no thought that it could work with 20-50 queueing up together.
Those that prefer to play solo, it won’t change a thing. You just will have different commanders to get used to every two months.
As I've said before this idea WILL fail. It puts off new players, forces guilds to kick members more often for being inactive for fewer amounts of time (because of the ally caps). It forces guilds that were pvx to be only wvw and prevents their members from being in any other guilds. It completely removes server pride which even solo roamers care about. Not sure if you have been in allies before in other games or gw1 but I've seen the ally system COMPLETELY destroy a guild because of limits and in-fighting that an ally can create and in the end everything falls apart first the guild then the ally. This doesn't currently happen but certainly will once allies are a thing, you will see guild leaders fighting each other and wanting different things I guarantee it. We have already lost 50% of the old wvw community and new players are few and far between.
So to sum up.
So overall it doesn't fix the current issues that have seen us lose 50% of the community and will create new issues that will kill the gamemode completely for more people.

All of what you note regarding guilds is assuming ‘one’ guild. People will have a guild that they assign to WvW and other guilds for... other stuff.
Now, of course a guild that wants you in WvW and you stop going? If they are the WvW designated guild, then yes, you might get kicked.
But guild wise, few will notice a difference.
It isn’t supposed to fix population. It’s supposed to assist with matchups.
If the matchups become somewhat more even, more people may play. Or not. Server and tier size will be adjusted each ‘season’ which if queues get too large they can potentially adjust. If population continues to decrease, they can close a tier.
And solo roamers? Of course they will be there like they are now.
Eotm was never meant to be a place to permanently play, it was a waiting room. Players took advantage of it being easier than real wvw, for many years, even getting ahead of players doing the work for their servers in wvw. You want the wvw rewards now, then play in the wvw maps. You want to ktrain for champ bags they hey eotm is still empty and free to ktrain, there's also plently of pve places to do so.
Alliances might solve a minor problem in wvw, to me it'll just work out like links where it gave a boost to the population after the disastrous start of HoT, but 6 months later population starts dying again with a couple alliances ruling everything, because the problems extend beyond to stale game play and combat and balance. Things they won't address until the next expansion round of broken specs and balance, wait not address I meant continue to destroy.

Put Pips rewards in EOTM. Just make them a little bit slower or harder to get than WvW. Some people enjoy the EOTM map more than the WvW maps. Some people prefer the fighting from WvW more than EOTM. Overall I think it would balance out those that are serious about WvW and those that just want to have fun and get rewards. Heck it might even balance out the servers that want fights vs. servers that just want to karma train so you get more fight guilds vs. fight guilds.
I absolutely loved EOTM. I leveled 3 characters to 80 there, one of which is a main now. At the same time you had some mild WvW that wasn't plagued by meta builds and blobs, I mean I ran around on a below gear and level Thief actually having fights. It was mindless fun following a commander around and really relaxing. I always wished they would enhance it to have pips but weaker rewards, so it could become some sort of tutorial WvW, kinda being like casual then WvW being ranked.
I still miss it now, following a commander around is quite relaxing, things like RIBA and Istan are just not the same, without the added possibility of running into another team.
The original intent of EotM was to give players a WvW like experience while waiting in queue for WvW. With that said, the current state of WvW should answer the OP's question.

There's nobody in eotm, and wvw still empty. So it's the game mode design fault not eotm's.
Most ppl in eotm were uplevers or ktrain ppl, they weren't farming "wvw shinnies".
WvW ranks (the only available wvw reward back then) were farmed in eotm by the thousands.
Convert EotM to a PvE map. problem solved.
Also, which WvW is this that people play where the maps are all empty out of prime time? Is it the same one where the main problem is blobs and zerging and where no-one roams in gangs of less than ten?

I don’t anymore, and i miss it less and less. As wvw turned into a 1-hit festival with auto-targeting i am back to shooter games, where at least you have to target yourself for a 1-Hit headshoot.
So... Because you think wvw is a 1-hit festival, you want to turn eotm into a 1-1-1 grindfest with full rewards? What sense does this even make?
Hm maybe your right and EotM would today as bad as wvw, and it was just better in my memory, which is older as it dead now since a while.
The people who reminisce about "the good old days of EotM" forget one extremely important thing.
Everyone else had already decided that the map was far too easy to exploit to the point where fighting on the map (as intended) was not fun for anyone.
If people had stayed around to play that WvW map as a WvW map the experience of every k-train enthusiast would have been equally poor or even more so because inexperienced players would have been even more susceptible to the exploits. If the map had been littered with eg., "pull" Mesmers in force there would have been no k-train. Then the map would have returned to not be fun, for anyone.
Supply drops are inconsequential.
All of the items that don’t give WXP can be obtained from that portable merchant in exchange for badges. A WvW player will obtain more than enough badges from playing WvW to sustain purchases from this.
PvE players have enough farm maps. If you really believe that EotM should over boxes of WvW supplies then their should be diminishing returns or some other system in place to prevent farming. This way if players want to obtain those then they actually will have to defend assets too just like in any other WvW map.
Doesn’t matter as EotM isn’t meant to be another PvE farm map.

well, clearly you've never experienced getting whitewashed feels like, left with only spawn spots nothing else across all maps, capping a camp only provides 100 supplies, insufficient to reclaim a keep
and if it happens to be defended, you will need a lot more supplies to reclaim it
