Chosing main

Hi all,

I have little bit of a problem choosing what profession to play. I played before: Warrior, Guardian, Thief and Necromancer.
I am looking for a profession that It gives me an option to choose from different types of weapons (traditional warrior, mage, ranger weapons etc.).
For the profession that you choose, it would be nice for it to be needed in every type of PVP and PVE (group and solo), I do know that changes depending on each patch.
The profession could support but that shouldn't be the main role from it and for the class to have different buffs that could aid in some situations and for not to feel little bit slugish when it comes to movement but not be really fast like thief where it can die in few hits because of its low HP level (thief will also be as an option because I enjoyed playing it the most from them all).

This would mean a lot if you could help me choose a professions that I will list bellow.

P.S. I have made another poll that I would like for you to answer it wont take long. Link: https://en-forum.guildwars2.com/discussion/62605/crafting

Kind regards.

I'm gonna suggest ranger but honestly I wouldn't be too caught up on this "which to main" thing. GW2 is so alt-friendly with masteries, tomes and whatnot that you'll likely have all (or most) classes fairly fast (if you're somewhat active, that is). Besides, it's nice to have multiple classes to choose from as in group content you'll have the option to adapt to whatever the team needs.

Lastly, although knowing your class is obviously important, map/encounter/general class knowledge is perhaps more. That's one more reason not to laser focus on a single class unless you absolutely fall in love with it (and even then you'll probably want to change it up every once in a while). Good luck!

Seems to me that you want a mesmer. Fits all of the requirements (except traditional ranged weapons maybe, it uses greatsword as a ranged magic weapon).

Others are either bad at solo, bad in specific game mode, bad at range or have poor mobility.

    Deso's favorite FROG
    Master of afk and kiting
The God of Pips and Gud Deeps
    Froggo himself

  • kitten do I feel you on this one! Had the same problem rotating around thief, necro, ranger, guardian, warrior, elementalist and revenant.
I had different build and ideas and always saw new possibilities with the profession or the elite.. 6 years of changing back and forth.

But I ended with Daredevil. After maining Guardian for a long time.
    Why?
First of all it was my first character.
Second of all I like the hidden CD system in initiative and the trickery line giving 15% dmg buff and granting buffs to your team mates every 20 sec.

Are you squishy? Oh yes you are, but as guardians thief/daredevils need to use more active defence than soaking up hits.
Utilizing dodge, shadowsteps, blind and blocks to it finest.
They got high damage (but so gor most other professions), lots of mobility, and I feel like they help you be more aware of your positions.
Also a simple profession mechanic in stealing, but still I find some thieves forget about this :)

I chosed to sacrifice my dps for a bit of a bruiser style combat with marauder weapon and accessories for aprox 16-17 k health (tier 2:b ) and with food buffs close to 18-19k.
Then ofc signet of malice (can easily be changed to condi cleanse) and Bandites defence for active block against big hits.
Ohh and invigorating precision for full heal on big hits.

So this spund as a thieves promotion, but this is mere my current decision on a main (he also got clostest to getting legendary and full accended, which I never reach due to changing all the time).
And by this I will also state I am in no position to tell you are suggest you want to do.

This is such and altohollic game xD ohh but kitten legendary will not help xD

  • I am like you. I always reroll classes. After switching here and there, I'm settling with Mirage being my farming toon is Istan and Ranger for PVE content. Being a boonbeast, Nothing can touch me and my pets!!!! :P

    Guardian

You Say you want an prof that's good in all game mods without relying on support but having that option if needed? I'd say guardian. They're great in WVW, PvP and PvE. They're really a catch all for this. Warrior would also work as they too are quite solid with spellbreaker.

Guardian is viable both as "DPS" and Support in all 3 end game modes, and both core as well as both Elite Specialisations have viable spots to be played in.
In addition, for open world, it's also incredibly easy to make tanky, while not losing performance for that game mode, so it performs well in group as well as solo content.
It's reasonable mobile, but doesn't rely on constant movement/avoidance like Thief.
Can be both played as Caster and Martial class.

Seems pretty much what you are interested in.

Anything but necro, unless you like being a weak piece of kitten that is the but end of all jokes and makes you feel like you are hitting everything with a wet noodle just to get your hopes up for some substantial buffs in next balance update JUST TO GET MORE NERFS.

    Guardian

It's good to have a quiver of several professions to choose from.

You can't go wrong to have a guardian, ranger, and mesmer at 80 and equipped with exotic armor and weapons and ascended trinkets.
