Minstrel Tempest? — Guild Wars 2 Forums

Minstrel Tempest?

Hi Guys,

How is minstrel Tempest in WvW? I recently got back into my tempest and was thinking of playing it in WvW. I am running Scepter/WH and the following:

Earth: 3,3,1
Water: 1,2,2
Tempest: 3,1,3

For runes, I'm running water but can ran monk if it's much better?

Thanks,
Climatology

    No stability.
Runs out of shouts to heal with.
Other professions provide better boon coverage.

Really depends on your region and server. Apparently tempest has been quite popular healer in NA lately, but in EU you can barely see any in squad, most of the time it's either as dps (for who knows what reason) or as a part of a guild group.

It has good heals and big radius, but as long as aura share and soothing mist are 5 man, there's always gonna be better healers (fb, herald and scrapper being the strongest).

Scepter specifically has no good use for wvw heal tempest. Staff is probably the best choice since it has best aoe cleanse and ranged CC. Dagger is good, but considering that most fights are done at range it has almost no use outside of gvg or small scale.

Its out right worthless for boon covrages it has healing and your best bet is to try to go more root spam build so drop earth for acain but even then your going to be runing acain skills and crit dmg effect on a build who cant crit well at all.

See ELE forms and you will get my views.

A 10 Target Water Overload doesnt make tempest suddenly viable.

Minstrel is bad because boon duration is a wasted stat on Tempest.

What boons do you spread that justify going for less healing?

You dont have enough healpower/modifier to make regen better then other classes regen, so your regen will be useless.

If you go for Aura share instead of Soothing Power , your heal output is a joke compared to other classes.

But i currently dont see any healer/support (other then Firebrand) viable.

Tempest was trash before and still is.
    Scrapper got deleted.
Heal Rev is still to clunky to use and having Regen as your main heal is just not good.

    Druid is still a joke.

  • Thank you all!

Scrapping my tempest WvW idea hahahah. Back to my FB for supporting Zergs, and hammer herald for DPS.

  • Tempest is a strong support yes but playing scepter isn't that great as it doesn't give you any survivability like dagger will. You need to go melee for warhorn skills and immobilizes anyways (most people prefer focus tho and I do think it is better also due to earth skills being so overpowered).

Tempests main issues are that it is good against and within melee trains (which people seem to forget) and the game is slightly more mid-range bomby ever since PoF introduction of scourge shroud and spellbreaker elite. Also it has barely any ressing potential compared to chrono/firebrand/scrapper and you cannot stop people going down in this meta.

Tempest has lot of tools which will make it strong though:
    1. "Eye of the storm" - Superspeed, strong supporting tool, indirectly buffed in last patch by removing majority scrappers sharable superspeed
    2. "Aftershock" - Long cooldown immob shout, very strong but requires commander to go melee and tempest having patience to land it on multiple people.
    3. Auras in general. Frost aura and Shocking aura make enemy necro/rev/staff ele life way worse. It literally forces enemy to stack which can win you some fights single-handedly.
    4. Lot of heals (auras) being instant.
    5. Easy to play. Lot of passive aura procs, long radius on support and ways to survive.

There's some weaknesses to tempest support though which means it will be out of meta:
    1. It doesn't provice you anything absolutely necessary like scourge/firebrand does, thus commanders will usually be asking other classes they're missing
    2. Running more tempests than 1-2 has massively diminishing returns due to aura effects like shocking and frost aura don't need to be stacked.
    3. It only fits certain commanding styles. Namely ones that focus enemy backline and trailers, lot of commanders prefer bombing enemy melee. It does counter the bombing style to some extent though which is great.
    4. The boons it provides are kind of irrelevant. Vigor is nice but as long as firebrands run minstrel, their regen will heal more than tempests. HOWEVER if firebrand meta changes (legendary lore as protection upkeep or the stats of the gear) tempest will be the first one to come in.
    5. The burst heal and condicleanse is subpar.
    6. Its makes the parties little unbalanced, the party with tempest will usually stay alive and be full health while everyone else might be struggling. If the party doesn't have a mind of its own (Read: aren't brainless commander followers), the extra sustain is wasted.

My opinion as commander: Tempest is only strong with certain commanders and lot of people underestimate it just because it isn't listen on certain metasites. I do think that tempest is worth having amongst first 5 people in squad, however you don't really want more than 1 as it doesn't help you win, just limits enemy win conditions.

The useful thing about tempest in WvW is that it can outheal a firebrand whilst providing some incredibly strong and unique offensive support. Enemies hitting auras don't have target caps. Shocking aura and freezing aura have the ability to essentially split a zerg in combo with your scourges tearing boons randomly from the opponent. The big downside to tempest is that it favors a melee train play style and... well that's a stupid play style to have in this meta. It also doesn't lend itself well to stacking multiple tempests. Since the auras apply to all enemies equally, 5 people vs 25 people having shocking aura is basically the same in how it effects the enemy zerg.

They dont because you got to factor in blocking effects and better protection up time from firebrand then on ele.

Tempest is the worst support in the game at least venimes thfs bring some uniqueness to a fight every thing tempest dose is very much able to be used by other classes.

Dont wait your time on tempest at all play a real support class like fb or gurd core the only real support in this game.

I like minstrel tempest. I also like "Eye of the Storm!" for secondary pushes in guild raids (maybe blob fights, but I only play staff weaver in those kinds of fights). To me, it's not a waste of time. Sure, it's not better than firebrand, but it still has its uses.
