Hi,
The On Wiki Of Gold is a player-run project supported by ArenaNet on the official #GuildWars2 wiki. Any player from the Guild Wars 2 community can receive in-game gold and gems for editing specific articles (a wiki account is required, see the Contribution Terms). If you’re interested in contributing, simply login or create a wiki account, read the rules and create an edit that is “accurate, clear, coherent, relevant to the topic”. You can read more information on the project is here: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Guild_Wars_2_Wiki:Projects/On_Wiki_of_Gold
If you're not comfortable editing the wiki yourself, you can still contribute by using the "Leave article feedback" tab that is available for all articles, allowing you to give any missing information to the community of wiki editors. The community editors will then work on its formatting and finding the best place for it.
The wiki is made by editors like you! Big thanks to all the wiki editors for their edits and to Delsea for their work on the On Wiki of Gold project

Long live the Wiki and thank you to the contributors and organizers of this program!
Let's be neighbours.
Great initiative. Lets hope people don't misbehave editing things without good reason just for the chance to get gold.
Even if we'd love for this to not happen (and it hasn't over the past few months), the more experienced wiki editor have a few tools to check and then prevent anything like this from happening. The goal is to get more editors (so we hope that a few of you here are interested) but not at the expense of the quality of this wiki.

Another attempt to get free employees, no thanks. For gold, I just play the game. Give me Euro’s if you want me to work for the game.
None of the people who contribute to the wiki are employees of Anet, nor do we see ourselves as such, nor do we wish to be. We contribute solely for altruistic reasons. We also have a strong desire to thank others for taking their time to help others. This project was originally started and funded by players for players; Anet has since generously offered to help on the funding side of things (they have deeper pockets than us
).
So, keep doing that then, lol...
The wiki community always needs fresh blood. People burn out or move on to other things. On Wiki of Gold is an advertising tool to let players know that it can be "that easy" to contribute, with the hope that a fraction of those who come for the gold will keep editing for the fun and altruism.
Working on the wiki is a hobby, like any other: it appeals a lot to some and not at all to others. If it's not for you, no problem; you're not the intended audience for the campaign.
Hype is the path to the dark side. Hype leads to unfulfilled expectations. Disappointment leads to anger. Anger leads to disgust. Disgust leads to "oh, new shinies! I'm back!"
That's basically seeing Dulfy as an ArenaNet employee. The wiki is really just a player-made guide or information hub about the game.
It can't be anything different either, as ArenaNet developers can put in all the answers all the hints and tip and step by step guide how to play the game.
But.. I know this is a hard concept to grasp for many players, the game itself is meant to be played and figured out and challenges are overcome ...by the players. The developers are just there to set the hurdles and set the motivators, and nothing else.
Making the wiki as some integral part of the development process you would get puzzles and complicated quests that really just force you to use the wiki. Instead it's this part of the game where the community comes together to help the community that uses the wiki. ArenaNet funding this initiative is really just funding a way where players are involved in this community building process. To boost the way that people interact with eachother, to boost knowledge about the game and share that enthusiasm. In a way it's barely different from getting gold from teleporting a person to the end of a JP.
Personally, I have made corrections for no other reason than the fact that the wiki has been my map and compass to this game and I want to pay it forward. When I find an error, I correct it so the next person does not run into the same issues I did. To be honest, I am glad that the wiki allows general public contributions and I am happy to do so without the gold incentive. I have played games with no equivalent to the wiki, and we have been left at the mercy of a dev fitting the corrections into their long list of helpdesk tickets.
Well said, Greener,
Zushada
Thanks for your contributions Zushada! This project is NOT meant to change the way the wiki works, just provide a little bit of help. It's an idea that was created by Delsea, a player, and not by us. I've actually heard feedback about a similar idea years ago, but wiki editors were worried that it would attract players that had low motivation to improve the wiki and it could add a lot of work to sanitize the edits. This project is striking a delicate balance (and credits to Delsea for designing it that way) to encourage editing the wiki without sacrificing to the quality of edits.

I hope this will encourage people to take the time to upload images of weapons, armor, and other items which still have no images posted!
I always forget about this initiative. I'm happy just to be of some help.
(I wish the Devs would post their position in their signature [the old forums gave that information when they posted]; that was really helpful for updating the 'ArenaNet' page.)
It could take a certain amount of time to gather the list of employee titles at any given time, and then these could change (as employee change job titles, or move teams). But if you have specific needs, I'm happy to help as our Wiki Liaison

Thank you for the offer; it was more just a suggestion for the Devs (that post) that would be helpful. (I know they move around, so we were trying to keep it somewhat updated.) I kind of gave up on that particular project when the new forums started. /shrug
When creating pages, do we have to complete the page entirely before submitting it? It's obviously preferred, but is it mandatory? If we don't have time to finish it can we post it anyway and either finish it later or let someone else finish it?
There are a couple of strategies. One is that you can start in your user space: create the page there until you think it's ready for prime time. Then open the new article, and copy your edits there.
Another possibility is to put enough info that someone else can add to it, including a {{stub}} or {{section-stub}} mark on the page, so folks know it's incomplete. (Ideally, use {{stub|reason}}, so that people know when it's okay to remove that 'tag'.)
Another thing you can do is to create the discussion page first and include the info you have so far.
The worst thing that happens is that someone takes a look and realizes that there's some wiki convention that didn't get proper attention, e.g. using an "item info box" instead of an "armor info box" or no info box at all. 99% of the time, a wiki veteran can edit that easily. (And hopefully with a brief note explaining why they changed it, so you can do the same next time.)

To follow up on IWN's words, we simply ask that you do what you can, and then press submit. We know that time constraints or knowledge of wiki code are things that can get in the way. Every page is seen as a work-in-progress, and is built through iteration. So if you helped the community by just starting a page, then we'd like to say thanks, and absolutely encourage you to put your name on the project page
.
I see, well I wrote up a rough draft for "War Chest" in set 419. I'm not very wiki-savvy (at all), so I'll just copy/paste my draft in to a new discussion for the would-be page. Hopefully it will be useful and I'll get some form of credit for it lol
Well kitten, I posted it as a page instead of as discussion. Oh well, I'll leave it to the wiki gods to fix that :P Thanks @Greener.6204 @Illconceived Was Na.9781
@ozzeh.7398 (and others who are wondering) this edit you made is an incredible start for a page, thank you! It's absolutely what we're looking for
.
I'd agree: that's a really good start.
A rule of thumb I use: if I wasn't around to answer my friend's question, would this help them figure out what they wanted to know? I think your "stub" does that and more.
In other words: well done, ozzeh. Looking forward to seeing more

I would like to know if it is a project just for the English Wiki. I am a spaniah speaker and would like to colaborate if there is a spanish wiki project.
This is great
. I just wish there was something like this for players that are 3D modeling enthusiast.
"Love thy enemy, for without them there would be no WvW."
Hi @vier.1327, for the Spanish wiki, please see that discussion right here on the Spanish forum: https://es-forum.guildwars2.com/discussion/962/el-proyecto-wiki-de-oro
Thank you for your interest!
P.S.: thanks @ozzeh.7398 for your contribution to the wiki

The wiki tends to have trouble filling out screenshots for the armor gallery, but OWOG doesn't delve into those all that often.
That's my bad, since my computer started playing possum(or may actually be dying...=x), I've been unable to take pictures and am pretty backlogged on images I have to take once it's done pretending to be a dead duck.
So all you have to do is help out the wiki by editing it right? What would you do about people who use a different name on the wiki? How would you get the gold they earned to them? I don't care about me not getting any because I edit anyway, but I do care about those putting time aside for the gold and not getting any.
From the instructions for the Project:
To participate, make your contribution to an article that is in a Set listed below on this project page and then sign this page you're reading right now with the account name or character name where you would like the gold to be sent.
I update the wiki simply because it's the right thing to do. I use other people's collected knowledge, so I feel like I should return the favor.
Now, don't get me wrong: my edits are paltry compared to some writers. But, I try to do my share whenever I see something that needs work.
To celebrate the milestone of reaching 600 sets, the On Wiki of Gold project has opened up the doors to include improvements to any wiki article! Head to the project page, and scroll down to Set 600
.
Thanks again to all those who have helped update and maintain the wiki over the years. Especial thanks to those who have helped run this project, allowing us to give back to those who keep giving to the community.
December 2018 is the month of this wiki project's first ever special event: Adventure Calendar!
Each day in December will have a pair of articles to choose from. Improve one of these for at least 24 of the 31 pairs to qualify for a special thank you. (You can still join in on the previous days' article pairs, but be sure to get in before the whole event vanishes sometime in January!)
The special thank you: Your choice of any gem store item up to an 800 gem value!
I think there's a lot to be said for being careful when incentivising volunteer work. For one, we don't want to encourage a lot of low-effort edits from people who are more interested in gold and gems than they are in the quality of the wiki. A second aspect is that the act of contributing itself is the true reward, so none of us want only incentivised contributions to feel rewarding. And thirdly, sometimes incentives (and even penalties in some studies) can themselves give people a self-excuse not to participate.
However, with the quantities we have here, I think we're in a reasonably safe place: 2 gold is something spendable but not excessive, and 20 gems saves nicely to purchase bigger things. When someone redeems 1200 gems all at once, I usually add a note to thank that player for the large body of work that this represents - improvements to at least 60 articles! And even with this limited time event on top of everything, 24 articles divided by 800 gems is an increase of 33 gems.
I see the project as beneficial for a few groups: people who would like to help the wiki but are looking for articles that aren't finished yet, people who like to be part of a team that focuses on topics together, and people who were going to edit a wide variety of articles anyway and wouldn't say no a few gems here and there. I also write a short note when I check each contribution, and sometimes it's just nice to know that somebody actually saw and appreciated what you added.
If this event sounds like fun to you, give it a try!
Can we make this wiki be ingame so it doesnt break game immersion? It would be awesome if the wiki would appear in-game as a massive sesrchable book. Please Anet.
I would be happy to build something like this for some gems as well
.
I have a wiki account with a different name/email. How do you link the 2 accounts?
Edit: nvm, it's probably by creating a personal page.
Hey Kidel, hope you were able to figure things out. If not, please note that your wiki account is completely separate from your game/forum account. Some people do use the same name for both, but some don't.
For the On Wiki of Gold program, you can just sign your contribution by using
[[User:InsertWikiAccountName|Kidel.2057]]
(make sure to note the vertical pipe,|
). If you're wanting to change your wiki name to one that reflects your game/forum name, please contact one of the wiki bureaucrats to help you out.I want to add information on material farms and was able to add an entry for one of the spinach locations. However, I cannot figure out how to add an icon on the map.
Are there instructions somewhere on adding icons to the static and interactive maps?
Currently attempting all Legendary Journey collections at once.
I would look up Guild Wars 2 Taco. http://www.gw2taco.com/
The wiki code to add it gets pretty involved. Leave a note on the discussion page for the relevant article (spinach) and one of the gurus might be able to walk you through the details.

Thank you very much for that suggestion. Hopefully someone will be able to point me further along the correct path.

This may, or may not, be helpful: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Guild_Wars_2_Wiki:Image_formatting#Game_icons
Or, something else on that page.
Good luck.
Hey BlueIce! Adding farming locations to the interactive maps is definitely an interesting idea. It's not one we've currently implemented, and I can't speak to its feasibility, but I'd love to see it brought up for discussion on the wiki.
If you would like to bring this topic up yourself, please head to our community page, click the "+" symbol at the top of the page to start a new topic, and type away!
If you're more interested in simply helping us document the locations, taking screenshots and circling the locations (as seen on the spinach page), is also incredibly helpful and appreciated.
Thank you very much Greener!
I have posted to the community page you recommended. I would really love to get involved with updating and maintaining the wiki.
I cannot tell you how much it has impacted my time in world and how grateful I am to the community that has helped build it up.
I have almost no experience with wiki pages but I am eager to learn and be part of the group that helps the rest of the community
.

My only issue is the wiki really doesn't explain at all how to do a lot of the more complex stuff like crafting...
I spent hours trying to work out how to get Marauders insignias etc and the wiki was completely useless in explaining how it was achieved, turns out you can just purchase those off a crafting npc.. which is odd considering many other 4 stat you must go hunting for them..
Wiki was of no use in this respect i had to go to a multiple other sources before i found this.. Why the Wiki cannot be more straight forward and to the point on many things is beyond me.
Huh? When you wiki marauders insignia it literally tells you all the materias you need and where you get the recipe.
I'll have two number 9s, a number 9 large, a number 6 with extra dip, a number 7, two number 45s, one with cheese, and a large soda.
I can't bring myself to edit the Wiki. I never did it when it was free. So doing it now would feel like I was only doing it for gold.
Whereas those who have already edited. They've proven that they will do it for free and altruistic reasons.
I edit the Wiki often, and have hardly ever filled out the form for Gold.
So, feel free to edit to your heart's content.
