Function gyro is supposed to be the "defining" mechanic of scrapper. It's equivalent to tempest overloads, reaper shroud, full counter, soulbeast merge, etc. It only works on downed enemies or allies, so weeks where there is no downstate renders this mechanic useless.

I love just how many times I have to explain this.

Can anyone explain to me how is a no downed state week event any fun when in this power creep meta, getting hit with 1 skill removes more then half of your HP.Fairly certain the people who enjoy this are the ones who like 1-2 shoting players.

Stated above, the difference here is in builds. If you are getting 1-2 shot you are either building out to fill a role that plans on support or you are in a build that doesn't match your opponents or your own playstyle. People that enjoy this event are ones that see people drop but by simple larger number don't walk away with much. Its for the roamers, havocs, gankers, zerg busters, organized zergs, voice comm'd squads. It's not as much for the unorganized zergs that don't build some defense and don't get on voice comms. It's not as much for people that just think any build that is 'meta' will do. It's also not a week for builds that are designed to get people back up that have fallen, I have some of those too. Shelving those toons for the week since they will do me no good. So in effect I also understand the impact on people that have a limited number of toons that are built just for rez mechanics, but the more of these weeks we have I would hope those people gear up some additional toons and try some other roles. Have found the fights even more fierce on these weeks, will have to see if that trend continues.

Full minstrel build on firebrand which i use and i still get crit for 12,000 crit damage by revenant. Balanced right.

Don't run Minstrel on Guards, they are already low enough health wise. Take it you are more squad based with that. It's more of positioning this week then if you also aren't running more vit than just the runes. There is no balance in WvW on regular weeks. The difference here is if they drop you you don't get a second chance. Glass cannons are in the same boat and they drop even faster so it also comes down to the side that can focus fire better than the other. I won't deny this isn't a week for pure support builds.

So i am like the only 1 that used scrapper, not for function gyro but for hammer/sneak/bulwark gyro...pretty much the whole trait line ? function gryo is ok for what it does but i wouldn't say this defines scrapper.

The only people who hate this event are the ones who either:

  • Take all too much pride in not dying as if they're losing everything they ever worked for. It's a game mode built around death, get used to it.
  • Take all too much comfort in running in giant zergs and are sad that they can't overpower small man teams as easily.

I don't really care about it to be honest.

It will be different for the first few days.

It will be more boring than usual the last few days.

The timing is typically poor since it is also re-link week so people would have been excited enough about the relinks and the event takes from that.

But hey, it's usually how it goes around here, we're used to it :# .

I'm not in one of those groups, nor are my guilds, so did I?

It doesn't "define" scrapper, but the unique mechanic is supposed to. This is what you're not understanding -- things like tempest overloads, mirage cloak, and an extra dodge for daredevil are unique mechanics for those specs. Function gyro is scrapper's unique mechanic, but it's temporarily removed every time they have a "no downed state" event. Imagine if deadeye's mark was removed for an event, or daredevil's extra dodge went bye-bye. That's what this event is doing for scrapper.

Pretty sure scrapper will be adequately represented without the gyro. Some guys keep campaigning even when it's their turn on the fotm carousel, sheesh

Was a problem before, still is a problem now. Function gyro is garbage.

I don't fit into either categories, and don't like no down state either. If I'm alone, down state actually lets me win 1v2s. Without it, I'm forced to pretty much never fight if I'm alone as I'm guaranteed to lose. If I'm with a group, I don't even go down personally, but I prefer supporting when I'm with a group, which no down state ruins.

No down state doesn't benefit smaller groups, larger groups could just mow down smaller groups with zero fear of random rallies unless they're bad. Even when I'm in a large group, we're normally out numbered for most of the day, and win due to downstate.

Quite literally that is the opposite of what every skilled roamer says. You appear to fit into group number 2.

My observation is that the people who like this event are to don't use strategy to complete the fight and need a crutch to kill off the downed since they're to lazy (or untalented) to figure it out.

are to don't use strategy to complete the fight

I'm going to go ahead and highlight this, say I don't even want to attempt to understand what you're trying to say, and then just head on back to using strategy to win outnumbered fights.

Good day.

I'd actually like to come back to this, because the last time we had a no-down state week, we saw comments like this:

@NuhDah.9812 said:Scrapper is only an elite specialisation and probably not even very used atm, but I guess rangers and necros are entire professions with arguably strong down states which I guess will be affected at least as much. Also the crazy ress power some other specs have will also go away for this event.

.

@Vavume.8065 said:Most classes have skills that are related to downstate play, and frankly some of them I would consider better than function gyro, so tbh cry me river.

.

@Shadowcat.2680 said:

@"Exalted Quality.8534" said:Functionally, this affects scrappers more than any spec, period. Sure, other classes have downstate traits but none like scrapper.

I disagree with this line.
is the revive trait that I'd consider to be the biggest game changer for the user out of all the traits affected by reviving.

You keep dodging the point about Function Gyro being the elite spec mechanic. Not sure why.

It's more that as a profession's unique mechanic, Function Gyro is not as well integrated into the elite spec as any other elite's unique profession mechanic in the game. Scrapper not having it for this week in a match where downstate doesn't exist won't make scrapper any worse off than it already is. Nor does the event exclude scrapper. It'll be just as playable in the event match as it is in any other match.

That their event excludes a profession mechanic without killing the playability of that profession should tell Anet something about their design of scrapper's "identity."

This was before the scrapper gyro rework, when scrapper was considered near useless except for a few niche players, so they said "Who cares? Nobody plays scrapper." Now you're saying the exact opposite, "Who cares? It's FOTM!"

So it's damned if you do, damned if you don't.

:disappointed:
