A wild Anet Dev appears ! :D

Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I think so?

First time I've seen a dev in-game and I've played on and off since the 2 day pre-purchase release
Anyways, probably not news to a lot of people that the devs play the game, but him waiting for Teq tonight and clipped it:D

^What's up with twitches url names? lol

Anyone else here got any stories or pictures of Devs you've met in-game?:o

I saw a dev on World vs World today. I play in sfr, everyone was protecting the dev. 😂

  • They've been told to be playing this event WB event. Literally a 4000% increase in dev contact this week, people been spazzing across discords.

I see them off and on all the time. Probably 2-7 times a month. It may just be the the region (NA vs. EU); they do play on NA more often.
You can also see them playing every Thursday in WvW (and watch them on Twitch, if you've a mind to).

It's not something so rare. I usually see them after a big/medium patch. For example one of them was in our bounty group, a couple of weeks after the PoF release, while some other was in my sPvP team when the new Djin map was added.
It's a good sign, they want to test first hands how the new contents work. I usually avoid to bother them.

I usually only see Anet staff just after a new release, but then I'm on EU and I suspect they mainly play on NA and only come over here for special occasions and to see people's reactions to new stuff.

One thing to bear in mind though is we only see them when they want us to. The tag identifying them as Anet is their guild tag, so they can turn it on or off at will, and I've heard some even have second accounts they play on when not working, so even if someone adds them to their friends list they can't track when they're online and not working.

    Your star never fades."

Thanks. I couldn't find it earlier, because the post mentioning the achievement named it incorrectly: "Culling the Creators" (it's Conquer the Creator)

Yeah I just noticed that. Thankfully it doesn't give AP, but it was a cool easter egg.

Yep. Sadly it was worth 0 AP, but then I guess they wouldn't want to actively encourage players to hunt them down in a game they themselves designed :sunglasses:

True that, but I guess it works both ways, everyone from their world is going to go crazy trying to protect them 😂

Well... here in Europe, we never get to even encounter one, so it would really be unfair to have AP attached to it.

Chances are you may be playing with Anet staff and not realize it as they don’t always represent the Anet guild.

Yesterday I saw a bunch of ANet logos between the SFR players in WvW (I'm Surmia). I got killed near our StoneMist castle by them but quickly came back for revenge. In our chat, it became clear that there was a hidden achievement for killing them so everyone went bananas to get the achieve. By then, someone told me of the Twitch.tv livestream. I recorded a bit here:

The audio in the background is the Twitch live audio of the devs while we were hammering them. Sry for the ganking. but I had to get this achieve lol.

  • I saw a ton of them when the warclaw first launched. I assumed they were there to make sure it was working properly. Didn't think that maybe they were there just to have fun! I always feel bad for them because they tend to get trolled pretty hard in map chat.

Devs you say, always loved this video.

Other than that, I've seen devs in pve every once in a while, seen a few in rata sum over the years, and of course seen them in wvw every once in a while.

    Another derailing post. ^^

I only saw a dev once on EU servers (2 day before layoffs). He / she was killing some mobs around Ogham Wilds in Caledon. Have never seen any dev next to this moment.

  • Donari.5237Donari.5237 Member ✭✭✭✭

I'm not sure I've ever seen a dev. Lots of ANet tags though. (Remember, a "developer" is a specific subset of the company employees, and for example Rubi and Gaile -- both of whom I've seen -- are/were not devs as such). The tags show up for events or just standing around in cities. Long ago my guild even had an ANet norn join us for a dungeon run (or we joined him, he was asking for help with the dungeon and we pounced). I have a screenie, he was all in white and red, but I can't find the shot right now since I have to go month by month through years of screens and it's almost time for Guild Chat :)

I think most use 'Dev' as an all-encompassing title for ArenaNet employees.
Rubi is great; she always in kind enough to engage in in-game chat and answer messages, as well.

I have not seen devs in sPvP before, but I assume you cannot tell, since tags are typically removed in sPvP. I have seen devs in open world PvE all the time.

I once saw Gaile in the city of Tarir. I was too shy to say 'Hi' but I wish I had now. I read recently she has now left ArenaNet - I'm often last with the news - and that makes me sad. She seemed a lovely person and a great ambassador for the company. Hopefully she has moved on to another place which appreciates her warmth and her professionalism.

ArenaNet employees are quite common in-game, and it's not unusual to see them hanging out in various places now and then. But as Danikat pointed out, they must want to be seen, and you never know when they might be lurking "off the radar".

    So behave.

I saw Rubi once at the southeast tower in wvw. I came out of our spawn and saw her being attacked by someone from another server. Being the chivalrous, and handsome, asura that I am, i proceeded to defend the fair maiden. After defeating the scoundrel that dared to attack Queen Rubi, Queen Rubi said, "I am trying to let them kill me for the achievement." I got a good laugh out of that.

We're on EU worlds pretty regularly–I'm sorry you've missed us! Irenio and I livestreamed from EU worlds just the other day. Some of our devs have been doing a weekly WvW livestream since February of 2018, and they play on a different world each week, alternating between NA and EU worlds. Yesterday's livestream was on Gunnar's Hold on the EU side.

It might be a case of playing during different hours sometimes--time zones are all kinds of inconvenient. That said! I mentioned in a meeting yesterday that I want us to make sure that we are consistent about playing on EU worlds as well as NA worlds when we do stuff in game, so I hope seeing us in game isn't a rare occurrence for you in the future!

I didn't know the devs were playing GH (I'm from sfr), I did not play WvW yesterday because I was busy helping my girl with the game, she is very new. I'm sad that I missed the fun.
