Dragonfall Meta on a Schedule?

Recommended Posts

I don't believe there is a set schedule? As it progresses as slow or fast as people get the starter stuff done. And then can be open longer or shorter after the meta depending on if the meta is a success or not. Best bet is to look in LFG thats how i find ones that are actively going on or starting.

That's pretty much what I thought but wanted to check if anyone had different information.

Thanks.

Yeah I think it's like Silverwastes. The preliminary phases take as long as it takes for players to get them done (because the NPCs on their own won't achieve much) and then the phases of the main attack on Kralk are timed, and depending on whether that succeeds or fails there might be a bonus phase after that, then there's a short cool-down period before the map resets.

So different copies of the map can be at different stages at the same time, and it's a matter of finding an organised map (or recruiting people to come to yours) rather than waiting for the reset time.

exactly. So i dont understand when some says that Dragon Stand ist better, because it has a schedule

I suspect its a matter of different things suiting different people. If you always play at roughly the same time every day, or you can play at almost any time it's probably better to have meta-events on a schedule, so you can always know when to log in to catch the start of the event. But if your time is more erratic and it's hard to plan ahead to make sure you're online at exactly the right time then metas which can start (and end) whenever are preferable because you can almost always find one in progress, or find a new map and get one started.

Only argument in favor of it imo is that you can drop in and KNOW something will be up there, though even that is rather weak. 8 out of 10 times I enter DS it's empty and I have to use LFG anyway. On the new map every time I enter it, it appears to be completely empty, when in fact it's full of people simply running between camps without a commander tag around. It's quite deceiving.

Yes, it works just like SW with people running around progressing the meta, instead of playing the waiting game for the timer to start.

I much prefer playing a game whenever I want to as opposed to playing a game whenever it wants me to. I'm glad Anet finally decided to replicate the model of the most successful LW map they 've ever released.

I wonder how much of it comes from the fact that this meta is overly rewarding. Gameplay wise it's really nothing special and at times it's just a collection of everything wrong with PoF metadesign.

Partly. The rewards are excellent no doubt and the gameplay isn't over taxing, but I would say it it improves on some of the PoF metas by (optionally) splitting the players up rather than requiring them to group up. That means less people in one place to reduce lag and visual noise. More metas should encourage splitting players up in my opinion. It also is just a cool theme - fighting on the back of an Elder Dragon. It might not do anything extraordinary, but it doesn't always have to if players can immerse themselves in the World around them.

There is one advantage to the scheduled approach for a very crappy reason. The middle lane way point escort mission is currently stalled on the instance of Dragonfall I am in right now. This will still broken until/if the instances empties out but could stay around indefinitely. With the scheduled approach things reset when the timer runs out.

This is only an advantage because ANet's bugfixing leaves much to be desired ...

If anything, Dragon Stand needs a revamp to make it similar to Dragonfall. DS is a great map, but with it being on a timer, randomly falling into it means players see a dead map almost every time.

Actually this meta is a combination of Auric Basin, Tangled Depths and Dragon Stand all in one...with maybe some PoF elements thrown in as well.

I like how Dragonfall is primarily player-driven rather than on a clock timer. Also even though I don't like requiring Mistborn Keys to open the Mistborn Coffers because it seems like I'm always short on keys, I think I understand why they did it that way. If coffers could be freely opened I think it would drive people to map-hop looking for the final meta event, or else encourage leechers to wait around until the final event. By requiring keys, it encourages participation in the build-up events where keys are earned.

Roughly but but not really, "having elements" doesn't make them comparable. It lacks the "atmosphere" the fight vs. the Mouth of Mordremoth has (even tho the fight itself was more or less just a collection of minigames). The PoF enemy design leads to some cheap deaths which isn't nearly as much of a problem in the HoT metas which I take any day of the week over this mess (except for DS, the "all or nothing" meta design really kills it for me).

Also this meta really makes me question some of their previous "balance changes" / design choices in regards to meta rewards. How come Great Hall can only be looted once a day while being just as time consuming as AB (which can be looted once every 2 hours) while being significantly less rewarding on top of it (12 small chests + one big one for GH vs. 8 small chests + 14 medium sized ones and 5 big ones for AB)? And then look at how rewarding the made the new map for no reason, not that I'm saying that it should be nerfed or anything but can we make the metas on maps like the Sandswept Isles or Draconis Mons just as rewarding or is this depending on how much the current head of development likes the map in question? I'd love to see some consistency here.

In Istan you could pretty much ignore all the events in the map, and only be there for the main events (GH, Palawadan), and still reap full benefits. Here, if you don't do the preevents, you won't have enough keys for all the chests. That, in itself, is a form of limitation.

Although i do agree that Istan got overnerfed.

  • 2 years later...

Does anyone know if it's possible to get notified at the start or end of this meta?  Maybe a web-timer pulling through the API?

Reason for the ask is... trying to work towards Vision but I need 'My Beautiful Infrastructure'.  That means being involved right at the very start of a new Meta... 25 times!

Other than just stand in the map for literally hours, it would be gret to know when the last Meta ends so I can be on the map at the start of the next.  I've tried for days so far to turn up at the right time but it's so difficult to judge.  I only need to turn up 2 minutes after it starts and I've already missed the bit I need.  Lol

It can be done in much less than that. Multiple bridges, and a reliable timer that starts at the conclusion of each event.
