A suggestion to make it unique to DD.

Rob

The Daredevil dashes forward, evading attacks.If they dash past a target, they gain a Stolen Skill and knock them down.

  • 600 Range
  • Knocks down, damages and steals from the targeted enemy during the dash.
  • Unblockable
  • Can be used without a target. The damage and knockdown will not trigger, but the Steal will affect the first target encountered. (For stealth escape purposes)
  • 3/4 s Evasion

Well I just want DD to have a unique alteration of the class mechanic, on similar tones of Deadeye's Mark.

I feel like an aggressive dash type skill would fit the brawler-thuggish DD better than Steal would for a sneaky assassin.

On the other hand, I decided I can't let it bring me down if I want to keep playing GW2.

just make it 900 range with unblockable or revert the change. It was fine before, its not like daredevil traitline was in need of a "tradeoff" its a nerf. And with this nerf s/d with acrobatics is vastly superior to daredevil. Before the nerf you could play in spvp both d/p dd and s/d core. Now its only s/d core that was not the intention of this change. The intention was to get the elite specialisations in line with core traitlines and the change failed to do so, because dd traitline was already in line with core traitlines. Now core traitlines are better and we have the power disparity they tried to avoid just the other way round.

I could be wrong but is DD unique in that it's the only spec to have a weapon less melee in fist fury skill? If so why not have a 900 range gap closer that is some sort of opener if not blocked and changes from front, back or side to encourage positioning. These could include knockdowns, dazed, stuns etc and the skill stolen is some type of weapon less attack with fists or feet and the attack type depends on the class the swipe hits. Would add uniqueness and flavor as well as strategic play to DD

I don't think d/p dash is ever going to be like it was in the glory days.

I don't think daredevil would be stealing anything, and I view the deadeye steals as more of inspirational spells based on the target selected.

So for daredevil, I think the profession skills should focus on the jungle kung fu

What I would like to see from this daredevil is something like this:

F1 = Swipe (a leap attack, 450 range, stun foe 1/2 sec, unblockable) (inherits traiting from steal)F2 = Dash ( an +50% movement speed dash attack, 900 range, xxxx damage, evade 3/4 sec)F3 = Grapple (knock opponent down for 3 secs, and yourself for 1.5 secs. if you attack from behind, you are not knocked down)

Maybe all baseline steal cooldown but effected by any reductions from traits steal would receive.

Imagine how these f skills would help out the other less used physical skills

  • knocks down if this skill interrupts the target. (to encourage timed and intentional play~ which is what thief should be about)or+900 range+Swipe provides a range of skills depending the stolen targets' health:below 30% : Impact strike30% - 70% : Open wounds - Gain quickness/ superspeed + On hit reset utility cooldowns (1s per hit)/ On hit gain initiative (2 ini per attack)above 70% : Explode plasma

I like how I suggest something pretty simple which falls in line with the Devs' reasoning behind the nerfs, and suggest a sort of compromise or alternate positive trade off, but people decide to suggest a semi revert + more busted version of original Steal.

Point is : JUST nerfing Steal range is lazy and horrible balance.

Better solution is to give Swipe the Deadeye Mark treatment and make it support DD's in the face, high risk, big balls playstyle which rewards actively fighting in close range and evading aggression.

But in the end, people just want core thief with three dodges.

(Ps I'm highly aware core thief used to have 3 dodges before Elites were a thing, just let it go it's never coming back)

Actually the easiest way to buff swipe is to un-nerf endurance thief to give 50 endurance in pvp/wvw. The thing that actually needs some tune ups is staff as the weapon is not good enough for pvp outside of wvw zerging. It is way to easy to kite and is really clunky to use.

I think daredevil players are going through the 5 stages of denial, and are now at stage 3 with them always asking for more range on swipe as if that's going to happen. Swipe is meant to be a close range steal, stop asking for more range, let it go.

I made suggestion few comments up using your concept, but I broke into 3 F skills. None are TP.

Keep the short range and cut the recharge time by 5s or more. The steal needs to become more rapid fire if they are going to keep the short range so it becomes an anti-kite mechanism.

Or expand the range to 1500, remove the unblockable and turn it into a real gap closer.

As it is, I find Swipe only useful for condi builds.
