Back from 3yrs

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys

I just start playing Gw2 again recently after 3yrs' drop off. it fews like everything is difference. The time i left, people started playing HOT. Now i feel like lived in the jungle and go into the city. people riding their mounts running eveywhere.
I am not too sure where i can enjoy the game. i am not a pvp person. i used to be a dungeon runner. but now it seem no one run dungeon any more and wvw its out of number as well.and no one in my guild is online anymore.

so all you guys went to POF map? or is it Gw2 dying?

Firstly: Welcome back!

This game is far from dead, actually. And right now there's a festival going on in Hoelbrak, so hop in and have fun. As for the map population being sort of low, not only is there the festival but the newest season of the LW has been out for awhile. I'm actually surprised that there are not more people in the HoT maps, as they are, arguably, the most lucrative when it comes to Metas. As for the guild thing, I can sympathize, I'm sure someone will offer to take you in. <3 Take care!

The PvP scene is stale, so you're in luck for not being interested, WvW is never being updated- so your best bet is to start where you left off. PvE.I wouldn't say GW2 is dying, but it's very stale & lacks new content on every other front except PvE (PvE content you can complete in just a matter of hours)Find yourself a new guild, make sure that specific guild is 'returning player friendly' and has a discord (I say discord bc it's easy to communicate over) - Most people have moved on from PoF maps & HoT maps. They all try to get their Skyscale (new dragon mount that doesn't fly) And then AFK in cities, trying to flex their infusions and legendaries. There can always be something for a returning player to do, it won't take you long to get caught up in content due to it being a breeze. Just don't take on too much, you'll get overwhelmed.

TL; DR - Find a decent PvX guild that has discord, Do events, level masteries, move onto next area.

Thanks for the feedback guys. its good to hear the Gw2 is active. i used to be a hard core player. played 5~6 hours everyday. crafted 4 legendary weapon. but now i just want to relax and enjoy myself. maybe run around HOT. and upgrade some of my class to HOT's Specialisation. about guild i may consider to join one later. still dont want to be constraint doing guild mission every week or running event all time etc . then go to POF when i am ready :)

Most chill guilds will not force anybody into guild missions or anything like that. I participate in the ones of my guild like, every two months. :P

Depending on what you like, you could go through the story and unlock the different living story maps along the way, or you can skip to POF to get the mounts, or you could just fill out both elite specs first and decide how you want to gear it up.

Another choice is to do fractals, these are meant to be the evolution of dungeon runs, and are quite profitable once you reach the last tier.

Thanks for your advise. do you know is Skyscale hard to get? it look really cool.

about Fractals i had really really bad experience for that. i remember i use hunt fractals' weapon skin. i ran like 100+. the only skin i got is staff. no luck at all. so i stop ever since.

the game is THE same since 3 years.endgame = fashion warsbalance = badrewards = badactive player base = yesdo i like this game = yes

@ op: the skyscale is NOT hard to get.. its just ... for GW2 a long way to grind...but you dont need any special " skill or skills"You need pof add on and the living story free ( you dont need to play all parts of it.. you only need part 4 with the sunspear instance + teleport to friends stones :)

Skyscale is as easy to get as the gryphon but still prepare a great bag of gold coins to get it, between the grow lamp, and diverse stuffs to buy. Plus don't forget stack of living world season map currencies: 250 in each map. (Istan/sandswept/kourna/jahai/thunderhead/dragonfall) and also collecting around 25 eggs, have to check on 25 skyscales, visit 25 locations...

Well to sum up a quite long kinda boring journey full of collections/timegates but with an interesting little background story.

Now, to answer op:~Pvp, mmh does this exist?~WvW: wow now with ridable cats~PvE: dungeon is dead, now it's fractalsEach 3-4 months we have cool new little maps with a little story.Along the years many events like recently SAB and now Dragon Bash (wasn't here since a long time), soon jubilee and festival of four winds. The gemstore is still updated with new items.

So, well, I just participate in the festival, do some dailies, maybe some explorations/world bosses and I log off.

this was three years ago, right? Wasn't this before the fractal revamps? A fractal run is no longer four random instances, instead players can freely pick which one to do, and ~4 of them are marked each day for daily rewards. Is one of the annoying maps in the daily? Then just skip it that day.In general fractals are a lot more welcoming to newer players, so it might be worth a relook.

Waiting for an RNG drop is probably the worst way of collecting the fractal skins. You can just collect some fractal relics (obtained at the end of each fractal) and use them to purchase the skins you want (or all of them). Much faster and easier :)

You may find it more enjoyable if you at least do the initial map in POF in order to get the raptor mount. It is not hard to get and will make navigating the world - especially HOT - soooooooo much easier. :)

I am in the same situation as Jun Yang. I last played regularly in 2013. I was in The Amazon Basin (AB) guild and on the Alpha Testing team. After I sold my business and did a bunch of other life-changing things, I now find myself with some time to poke around here in game but it's all changed and I don't remember the finer points. I find myself without a Guild and nobody has been able to tell me what happened to AB guild. I would like to join a returning player friendly guild because I just don't want to commit to missions, PvP, WvW etc. Any ideas?

Recently started back. Got the HoTs and trying to level up my mastery so I can glide. Reminds me of archeage and aion. Which is a cool new feature for me since returning. I initially was building a Dual Dagger Elementalist. Kinda hearing about new classes like Temptest and Weavers ... and that my DD ELe is kinda lame now... Glad to see there are much more 'things' to do to keep me occupied. Still reading up on Fractals and this agony debuff... For returning players, I guess just read up on these new features and just start back playing to get back in groove. If you have friends who still play or you're in a guild with friendly helpful people, they can guide you to where you wanna go.
