  1. It doesn't take a genius to spot bots. It's a little harder in GW2 because the sellers' names don't show up in Trading Post listings (though I'm sure game devs can see them). Usually people white knighting or denying the existence of bots are those who are directly or indirectly benefiting from their being in game. It also doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand why they don't get removed more quickly. They count as 'active players' which this game needs all of it can get. More importantly, if the prices of the commodity items people use to earn gold/gems stays lower, the non-cheating players will have to play longer to earn a given amount which also improves game metric stats. In short, there's just not that much incentive for the game devs to remove bot farmers. Every so often they might ban a batch of them, but that's just to keep the honest players from getting too fed up and quitting the game.
  2. It took me around 2 weeks and that wasn't pushing as hard as I could have. There were certainly kittens uttered at certain points, but I was very glad to finally get the mount. Make no mistake, if you don't craft the craftable items needed, it will end up costing about the same as the Griffon, but gold isn't overly hard to earn. Also, Taco is your friend for the area currency collection.
  3. Or you could keep using your massively convenient Legendary gear as you always have. I have to wonder if the thing you're really upset about is that the new tab system gives at least a small part of that same convenience to those who don't have Legendary gear and you feel like it means you aren't as special now.
  4. Probably around 3 days, but they come up somewhat regularly.
  5. I crafted mine over like a month and a half. There are some time gated account bound items you'll need to craft with materials that are also account bound so you can't just through gold at it.
  6. If you have power/precision/ferocity gear, you should be darn hard to kill and be able to faceroll pretty much any PvE content. It sounds like your skill build is not optimal. Check the MetaBattle website for a good place to start or search Youtube for necromancer builds. Once you play a few that work you can sort of tune your build to your play style.
  7. I still use the Raptor as it's sort of the go-to for ground travel and the attack is fast to do. I only use the Jackal for portals on rare occasions. I also don't use the Roller Beetle or Springer much anymore. The Skimmer and Griffon still get used a fair amount.
  8. The more I play my Necro, the less I use minions. I often only have the Flesh Golem since there's basically no other even sort of viable elite utility skill.
  9. Seriously, don't boost a Messmer or Elementalist as your first level 80. They both have some fairly complex mechanics that take some time to learn. If you feel you have to boost a caster, I'd say do it with a Necromancer. Even without elite specs you can still do very well in Path of Fire and at least stand a chance in Heart of Thorns. Even with the Reaper elite, the rotation is pretty straight forward. Most importantly, you'll not die very frequently.
  10. Also, don't feel you have to complete the masteries for every mount. I mean you eventually probably will, but there is kind of a skill for each mount that massively increases it's usefulness. Canyon jumping, high jump, Jackal portals, etc. Make sure you have the mastery points for those as you go for each new mount before using them on the filler skills that are nice, but not really required.
  11. The Glider is handy as it works even in combat. The mounts flat out make GW2 a new game though in some regards a much easier game (especially for the older content). Elite specializations are fun and really expand character abilities. In some cases they offer so many new abilities that it's hard to actually take full advantage of them, but it does give some new ways to play. For me personally, I really liked the Path of Fire and LW4 story line. I'm still working through HoT and am not finding it nearly as engaging as even the base story. There is obviously some continuity you'll miss if you skip HoT and LW3, but it's not that bad to figure out and really can be gone back and done as a side story later.
  12. You didn't specify which character class you were thinking about boosting or which expansion(s) you have. From the perspective of somebody who did exactly what you're thinking of doing around 6 months ago, I'll offer some tips. Firstly, if you can hold off, just don't do it. It's pretty easy to level and the main personal story is worth doing. If you absolutely have to do it. Do not do it with an Elemmentalist or Mesmer. I did it with the former and if I hadn't had somebody to play with and more or less carry my squishy butt, I might have just deleted him. I'd choose either a Warrior because, even with an elite skill, anyone can figure out a Warrior. If you want a caster, then I'd suggest a Necromancer because Necromancers can more or less faceroll over open world content and they are very versatile in groups. You can do DPS, DPS with some support, or do pure support as a main party healer alongside a Druid. The rotations for the skills for either elite skill are not difficult. If you have Path of Fire, there is a viable compromise. Level boost and play with dialog turned off until you get the raptor mount. You'll avoid major spoilers and just that mount alone will make going back and leveling your original or a new character a LOT faster and more fun. The glider from Heart of Thorns is nice at times, but really less useful overall in Central Tyria. The other issue is HoT is hard mode. If you want to quickly find out that your newly minted level 80 isn't the baddest in the land, just try HoT. Finally, as far as gear, There's generally an epic set of armor and weapons with the stats for whatever build you want that won't cost a fortune. It might not be the most cool looking but it will have the right stats. Best in class upgrade runes and sigils will likely cost more than the gear itself. Fortunately, there are usually alternatives that will work fine. Unlike certain other MMO's it really isn't that important to have Best in class gear. Ascended or Legendary only give a 5% increase in their stats over the best purchasable gear. Good luck!
  13. It's really cute and is one more gem store item I will currently be unable to get. I hope it comes around again in the future though.
  14. I've only been in one group that managed to actually kill all the champs before the time ran out. It never bothers me. It's more a bonus round in my view anyway.
  15. Once I had the Skyscale, I quickly forgot about the many kittens uttered to earn the Skyscale. It's a great mount and I was very glad I'd stuck with the grind after I actually got it.
  16. The Skyscale with all the masteries is a pretty good mount and excels at precision flying and landing placement as well as vertical travel. The only time I use my Springer now is to help kill the Choya Pinata. It took two play sessions to get the experience needed to get all three masteries so I don't have much sympathy. If you don't like the skyscale then don't use the skyscale, but I think you're in the minority of those who have the mount.
  17. Aside from owning all of Living Worlds 4, you really should plan to get the PoF mounts. You'll also either neeed a Roller Beetle or a friend who has one with wall bash unlocked. The Griffon isn't required, but would make things a lot easier in a number of places. The Skyscale was really meant to be acquired by those who'd finished PoF and LW4. The more shortcuts you try to take to that, the more roadblocks and frustration you'll find. The Skyscale isn't going away so there's really no need to rush things.
  18. Well your Necro is almost certainly able to handle anything in PvE. If you want an easy one to learn, it's pretty hard to mess up using a Warrior. Run up to target, hit target with weapon until it falls down, repeat. If you want something that's different and that I'm finding a lot of fun even if I don't always understand what I'm doing, try a Mesmer. It's like playing Three Card Monty with your toon and sometimes you'll lose track of which one is the real you, but I'm doing pretty well in staying alive and killing mobs.
  19. You'll need access to all of the LW4 areas (with more than one character preferably). In theory, you could get the skyscale in around 4 days if you had the gold to buy the items that are purchasable and at least some of the map currencies to start. I did it with steady progress and it took about 2 weeks. A week would be doable with enough time to spend. If you insist on crafting everything yourself you'll need, it will take longer as the food and one of the toys uses Charged Quartz which is limited to 1/day.
  20. If you want to do crafting, I highly suggest getting the stack size boost. There will be materials you will accumulate more than 250 of. Otherwise, if you want to run the story more or less through, you're going to want to get the Living Worlds packs. Living Worlds 3 especially has some story content that PoF kind of assumes you know about.
  21. I would only play the boosted character far enough in HoT to get gliding and in PoF far enough to get the Raptor mount. Do it with all sound other than music off so you don't get too many spoilers. With the Glider and Raptor, leveling another character through the main story would be a lot more convenient and fun and you'd learn some important game mechanics that I promise you don't know regardless of how many other MMO's you've played.
  22. You only really need it for the food and the Grow Lamp. You could do 20 of the 21 'Finding the Skyscale' activities and not have to craft any pungent treats. I just bought what I needed because farming gold was easier than crafting Charged Quartz.
  23. Seems kind of pointless to me. I may still get the skyscale logging tool anyway since I have the other two and would like a full set. Will probably just dump a forestry glyph into it and sell the Crucible one if I can.
  24. Hey, it's a great way to deal with a pesky overabundance of gold. ;-)
  25. Congrats! The first and third masteries are kind of important to getting full use from the mount. I hope you saved some mastery points. I was within a day of getting wall bash for my Roller Beetle when I heard about the Skyscale coming out and I saved every mastery point after that for the dragoncopter.
